[WORLD ONE | UVI ATTACK]
Who: The Uvi and coven members
Where: In and around the city land of Aimintas
When: Day 32 & 33
Open/Closed: Open to All

Where: In and around the city land of Aimintas
When: Day 32 & 33
Open/Closed: Open to All

For coven members who haven't been in Aimintas very long, the panic of the Palai the past few days may seem like overkill. The day goes by rather quietly and Aimintas looks like a ghost town throughout the morning and most of the afternoon. Not one Palai can be seen, with shops closed and the roads virtually empty, aside from coven members. It isn't until the sky is turning a nice shade of pink that things begin. Observant people who may be gazing up at the ocean will see the very small dots in the sky that begin to approach at a very quick speed. If you're outside, you may get to see the Uvi up close -- but perhaps not for very long. The Uvi have rubbery bones, and they hit the dirt in a curled up position, unrolling themselves and leaping up on long, scaled legs. The shortest Uvi might come in at five feet tall, but most range from six to seven. They're lithe and gilled -- you may think they want to rely on stealth, but the sound coming out of their gills is very loud and raspy. There's no way you can't hear them coming as the ominous and rapid noise follows them everywhere. Some of them are walking around empty handed, eyes scanning and striding up to buildings, banging on the outside and observing the inside of the house as much as they possibly can. Others are carrying large, bleached tools made of fish bone and teeth. Some look like long blades, while others look like long axes. These are used for cutting into doors and other violent tasks they feel the need to complete.
If your character confronts the Uvi, they better be prepared for an attack. B ▢ Alternatively, maybe your character is caught outside and ill-equipped to handle the Uvi. Running is an option! ...But they better be able to run fast. Maybe your character gets lucky enough to run into someone who can help them, but they'd best hope they find each other fast. C ▢ Your character may also be committed to love and justice, fighting the forces of evil with good. It's very unlikely that Palai blood goes unspilled tonight, but your character may be able to prevent it as much as possible. Just be warned: if they confront the Uvi who are trying to break into a Palai house, they're going to be in for a fight. D ▢ Other characters may already be hiding, whether in the coven house or with Palai in their own homes. They'll hear the Uvi's harsh, gasping breathing before they see them, but if they do hear that raspy noise, they'd better be quick thinkers. Whether the Uvi visiting turns into a brawl or a blood bath, eventually the Uvi will return to the ocean with Palai bodies in tow. At around 4 AM, the Uvi begin to shriek, some making noises that are too high pitched for most ears to hear. From the sky, large flying fish descend from the sky and find their masters. The Palai are hoisted onto the back of these creatures and they take off, flying back into the ocean.
F ▢ Maybe your character is more into the idea of following the Uvi back home. It's possible! Once the Uvi breach the ocean, they swim fast through the dark water for miles and miles. The journey is treacherous, and some may stop the trek to attack in the water where they're more at home. If your character makes it to their lair, they'll find that it's a dense wad of seaweed that stays static in the ocean. The Uvi are used to the toxicity of the leaves, but trying to enter means touching these leaves that leave large, skin-melting welts as they grow and burst. G ▢ Wildcard! How will your character handle this violent and volatile situation. |

[Geir's been in and out of the sky all evening, but it doesn't make sense for him to just fly forever, and by happenstance, he's still on a nearby rooftop when the Uvi start descending. if you want a very large dragon to notice you and help out, now's the time to get his attention, before he takes off to start fighting in the sky. just because he's big doesn't mean there isn't a lot he can do on the ground -- quite the opposite. he quickly surveys the ground to see if he can spot anyone in trouble before doing anything else!]
e
[Dirk made a good call. while the Uvi's rubbery bones allowed them to fall fast enough that Geir can't really do much to stop them from descending after all, he's still very well suited to one aspect of this fight: killing some enormous flying death fish. in the end, he doesn't concern himself with the Uvi themselves so much as their mounts, who are more in his size range and easier to target; he relentlessly rips and tearing at the fishes' fins midair, while his venomous fangs leave them gaping in agony and falling from the sky. dazzling magic from his summoner keeps the fish blind, not recognizing what's flying at them until it's too late to avoid Geir's claws. he'll jump on any opportunities that distractions from below give him, too, if you want to help with that!]
Ha! That'll teach you! Why are these jerks even flying?!
[he does try to grab them and toss them aside as they fall, so they don't hit anything important... but as a dragon with very little understanding of the concept of "city" in the first place, his aim, attention span, and understanding of what's important in an unfamiliar environment isn't always the best. duck and cover! or maybe you're fighting some Uvi who could use a fish barrage and you WANT to bring the rain?]
g
[Geir is more focused on keeping the fish from landing to help their Uvi riders, but as a few of them start to take off again, he can at least slow them down for those who are following the Uvi back. Vern (riding on his back) is still helping him out with his light magic, and with Geir swooping over them from his higher vantage point, bright flashes of light will hurt the fishes' eyes and force them to pause or turn back towards the ground again. this is a great time for those on the ground to bring some fish down for themselves, or for those on the recon team to catch up! do you have any specific targets for him?]
If you're going to go after these guys, just do it!
e
But there's the dilemma: if the Uvi don't destroy the city, fish carcasses will. ]
Hey! [ Minato tries calling out, but his voice is lost in the expanse of sky and he switches to a mental prodding at the dragon instead. ]
Can you hear me? From the gold dragon to your left. We need to minimize damages— if you can, try throwing the fish all in a pile instead of to the sides.

[Waver had offered to act as a look out in all of this, but nothing more. In truth, he couldn't pinpoint why he even offered. Rider would have, probably, and that was why Waver did too.
At least, that was the explanation Waver had settled on while he waited for something to happen. His little outpost was towards the north, and he was on the ground, neck staring up, up, up. He knew who was nearest to him as well. He had tried to arrange for that.
When the sky goes pink, Waver stirs, getting up and onto his feet, as he had been sitting up until this point. The dots approach and then...
...There's the sound of landing. That's it. Waver summons up his smoke magic as quickly as he can, and sends up three towering plumes of smoke in quick succession.]
I have some landed in the north. I'll send up two more sets of smoke signals, but then I'm gone.
G
After the whole thing was said and done, Waver could only look out onto the city streets with a tired, stunned look to him. There was little comparison to his past experiences here - Caster's lair was something disturbing unto itself - but there was still death everywhere. For all the planning, all the attempts, for...everything.
He breathed out, exhausted, barely processing the massive flying fish that a few coven members had managed to down. His goal was to get back to the coven's temporary dwelling and to get a greater sense of what had happened in the widest possible terms.
G
[ This comes from a serious-looking young man a short distance behind him. Julius' weapon might catch Waver's eye, since it's two metres long and carried by way of the blunt edge resting on his shoulder. There's also quite a bit of matted blood on his clothes, though he took the liberty of cleaning grime off his face already. ]
I'll take you back.

so while he hasn't really gotten to know the palai that well, he can't stand by and watch them die. he can't let someone take advantage of these otherwise peaceful people. it's not fair. even if negotiations hadn't gone well, even if the palai weren't seeing things eye-to-eye with the coven, it didn't matter. these people were still victims.
so here he is, stupidly coming at one of the uvi that's wandering too close to a door. he hasn't summoned any persona yet, and is instead relying on the sharp blade in his hand to knick the uvi's shoulder. just as a warning, as a back-off. this won't end well. ]

d - downtrodden
which means one (1) protagonist may have gotten the shit beat out of him. even healing from his persona didn't exactly do the trick. he's sitting in one of the safe houses, essentially licking his wounds. there's a few cuts and scrapes littering his body, his trench coat tattered and discarded beside him. his arms are still bloody and there are purpling bruises on his face and arms. ]
...Ah. It's still stinging. [ he frowns, poking one of the darker bruises along his forearm. for once, he's devoid of jokes and good humor. his ego is bruised and he's a bit downtrodden at the fact that they couldn't stop them. ]

[ The weapon being almost equal in length to his height meant that it had to be wielded in a different way. Instead of just swinging it around, he uses it as a counter-weight to maneuver himself as well. Magarudyne!
[ A hurricane builds up and blasts the Uvi aside— possibly Akira too, sorry— along with any other Uvis that are crowding around. They're slammed back into the buildings or the ground and that's where the damage comes from; he could have just as easily fried them with electricity or encased them in ice and shattered them whole, but they're... they're living creatures all the same, and there's some hesitance there that was absent in fighting Shadows. ]

Should have gone for their eyes.
[ thick skinned as the invading people were, eyes are still just eyes. only so many ways you can keep them safe and still see where you're going. it's not even a joke. it's just really late advice. if you're going to need to get that close to an enemy with a defense like that, you should at least pick out where your weapon will do the most damage ahead of time. ]

[As much as Haru thinks that two forces fighting with each other will get them nowhere... she won't stand for the Uvi going after Palai or the members of the coven alike!
If she finds a Palai in trouble, she will protect them. The same goes for her fellow coven members. First she brings up a barrier, and if someone happens to be paying enough attention... Haru is using the blunt end of her axe in an attempt to not harm the Uvi too much either. Knocking the Uvi away a few feet, and in some instances even scaring them off.
Though she won't always be this lucky. As it turns out, attacking the Uvi only make them a lot more angrier than they might have been before. If anyone is nearby she's going to shout for a little bit of assistance.]
If you could lend a hand, please!
[Alternatively, a member of the coven may catch her summoning this creature. Using an array of offensive and defensive skills with it. Though she only uses this when a group of the Uvi have her backed into a corner and she needs something to scare them away.
Pro-tip: Don't try to stop them when they're in a group. ]
d - you can't help everyone.
[After a tiring time of protecting the Palai (and not completely succeeding), Haru is going to take herself around to the place where the Coven members are staying. She will be on the look out for anyone that looks like they may need some minimal first aid.]
Are you hurt anywhere?
[Her gentle and even tone calls out to anyone she finds around. She doesn't have healing...but she can at least try.
If she couldn't help all of the Palai, then at least let her help her fellow coven members.]

[ He'll sneak up on them from behind to keep their attention away from Haru and the Palai she's protecting. His options are pretty limited with his weapon being just a few knives, but the taunt is working surprisingly well as they're focused on catching him now, instead of attacking the larger group. ]

She sprung atop a palai home as the growls and snarls of uvi sounded behind and below her, but as she retrieved her guitar, she had a duty to fulfill. She knew others of the coven were around and had the same idea as she. She merely had to weave a little spell, and she knew just the one... her favorite.
A few strums of her guitar, and she began:]
The sun sets, and dark wings embrace a bloody moon,
The screams of a thousand, thousand souls on their knees,
Pleading for pleasure, for pain-
[She pointed outward with 'pain'. A thick ray of light came from above, striking down a cluster of the marauders with a burst of sound and ethereal music notes. Most of the uvi stopped, but others began to climb after her. As she withdrew her hands from the instrument, the music had oddly sustained and filled the air. Any in a listening distance would enjoy increased ferocity and hit far harder than normal. What the hell were bards in her world, anyway...?]
Down from the mountains of madness and into the heart of an endless storm,
An evil wind blows, and ancient evil arises...
[She drew her head back for a laugh, the limbal rings in her eyes burning bright as she notched the first arrow. Two runes began to glow to life next to her. Then four. Then eight. Each bore the pointed end of a magical arrow of light, ready to fire...]
Now fall.
[The air was rife with streaks of light as the arrows fired along with her own, seeking. Madhuri hadn't so much as flinched with the sprays of ichor, the screams that followed. They were naughty things, and were in need of a good spanking. Too bad she was short on blunt weapons to do just that.
She hoped this would buy time for any teams to figure out how to breach the water and move above. Curiosity begged her to follow, but her heart kept her boots right where they were. She swept into a theatrical bow to non-fishy forms making a move below. Might that be you?]
Lovely day for a show, isn't it? Tell me- might there be a team looking to go a-knocking on their doorstep? I can keep these fish faces suitably busy down here on the surface.

After he's dispatched the last Uvi lingering near his location, he'll gravitate towards Madhuri's location. From her vantage point, it's easy to track his path by following the Uvi screams in his wake. A man with blood-matted clothes (most not his own), wielding a sword longer than he is tall with a strength to match, splintering wood and bone alike.

[Jay is patrolling the streets, weapon in hand, when the Uvi arrive, waiting for the plan he helped set in motion to unfold. His reasons for embarking on this mission are a tad complicated: a pinch of affinity for the Palai, despite their sometimes-pushy natures; a calculated desire to insert himself in the affairs of the coven; a dose of self-preservation; a disinclination to sit and hide from a potential enemy, perhaps.
There's nothing about the animal brutality of the Uvi that really scares him. Perhaps that's freeing, after a fashion.
He spots a group of Uvi banging on a Palai door in the distance and takes aim with one of his flying daggers: its course runs true, and there's a BANG and a shriek as the dagger explodes in one of the Uvi's faces, causing the Uvi to rear back. The dagger reappears in his hand a moment later, but the Uvi pack is making a beeline for him now, having spotted the source of the attack. He adjusts his stance as they rush him, and sends out a telepathic message to the closest fighters:]
There's a group of them on the west side--two streets down from the house with the fountain. I'm already there. [There's a brief image of the street in front of him before the line of communication shuts off.]
e/f.
[Well, that was unexpected. Jay lets loose another dagger at the approach of the flying fish, but that's not his main concern as he scans the battlefield rapidly.]
Reconnaissance, move. If you can't fly, find someone who can--
[He's looking around himself for someone who can take him, although he's visibly injured--favoring one side, in particular--and there are shallow cuts on his face.]

[ Honestly, the panic of the city is more nostalgic to Carla than anything else. It reminds her of traveling with her father's caravan, how word could reach them of bandits coming for the city; freshly supplied. She's stood with her father's hired men more than once, weapon in hand. Hel-folk were not known for hiding away from trouble, they were known for their ferocity in defense of what is theirs.
But none of this is hers and she watches the scuttling Palai with total disgust for a long moment before she returns to sorting through her gear. Her armor -- beetle plate, with holographic sheen to the corrugated shell -- gives her away as a warrior, even before seeing her sharpening and cleaning a sword. ]
Magitech -- First come first serve
[ She uses a very fine chisel to scratch an intricate shape into the steel of the blade, some kind of rune. She sits back for a moment staring at it. Normally, she'd have a kind of paste made of glowing fairy guts that she would rub into it to make it true. She looks around at any of the nearby coven members, ]
Who has control over their magic?
[ She motions curtly for you to come over to her. ]
Into the Fray
[ She's on the rooftops, watching for their enemy. It's still a bit bright for her night-vision to be at its best, but the more shadows filter in, the stronger her vision becomes. She was made to fight her way through the darkness.
She pulls on her helmet in a smooth motion, layers of beetle plate coming together to give her an intimidating insectoid grimace. ]
This should be enjoyable.
[ As the hoard approaches, she lifts a fist and bellows out some nasty string of curses, all sorts of damnation and slow death at the hands of hungry bugs who like their prey to suffer at the hands of their poisons as they writher to death.
]
Bash 'Em -- Fighting Wildcard -- Can help you, you can help her, whatever makes you happy.
[ She is an experienced fighter, a fearless one, no less. She's faced bigger and worse monsters than the Uvi. She's a controlled kind of terror moving through the streets, across rooftops.
She doesn't care about the Palai and makes no particular moves to help them, and most certainly makes no moves to sacrifice her safety for anyone else. Still, she's not completely treacherous, she also does not go out of her way to put anyone else in harm's way. ]
A pause in the action
[ She ducks around a corner, pulling her helmet off, her dark hair has come unbound and spills out over her sweaty face. She's panting heavily, but also grinning. She's having a delightful time. She gathers her hair back out of her face, wiping the sweat from her eyes, taking a long drink from a canteen, all the while glancing back around the corner for followers.
And then there's you, ]
What do you need?
[ A raised eyebrow, you might have caught her in the mood to humor you for a minute or two. ]
Out with it.
[ But not for much longer. ]

Hey!
[Normally, a sharp yell is enough to catch a person's attention. Just to make sure the pack of Uvis heaving back to hack at the doorway where several of the Palai children are barricaded in. hear her over the hubbub of the rest of the attack, Hakuno puts two fingers to her mouth and whistles sharply.
It works, and all of their attention is solely focused on her. She's taken off her tights, but still hasn't found any shoes, and that's fine. She takes one step backwards, to spur the attackers into moving, and transforms into a squirrel as soon as they lunge for her. She nimbly leaps around weapons and grasping hands, weaving between tails and feet to clamber up walls and glide away from the odd swipe.
Instinct makes the motions smooth, and a (brief) lifetime of experience allows her to gauge just when the next would-be attack is coming. It allows her to lead them on a merry chase, until:
i. a proper fighter takes note of the band of invaders
or
ii. she finds a suitably inaccessible crevice to wriggle into, and the Uvis are occupied by trying to hack their way in.]
g. find the wheres and whys and whos
...can you stand?
[After all the hubbub has subsided, Hakuno has been making the rounds, looking for anyone in need of healing. Given the fact that her Code Casts were originally designed to repair spiritron avatars in a magical alien supercomputer, she's a bit leery of laying hands on anybody with... complex problems.
Burns, lacerations, broken bones... that much, she thinks she can handle. Not indefinitely, but she's determined to do what she can; if nothing else, she resolves, she can help someone hobble their way to a more advanced healer.]
aii;
Whatever the reason, he's not going to leave any Uvi un-challenged until they finally turn tail and return to where they've come from.]
Why don't you pick on someone your own size.
[Riku is barely hitting 6 foot, so he's not exactly wrong about the size thing. He falls into his fighting stance, sword in hand, once the Uvis turn towards him. He's really not sure if he can take on this many on his own but...he's about to find out.]

➛ okuni
Okuni might run into him during one of the lull periods, his clothes matted with blood (most of it not his), greatsword stabbed into the ground beside him while he surveys the area. His ponytail has come loose, letting his hair fall to his shoulders. Golden hair, golden eyes - but hasn't she seen him with grey eyes before? ]
