Who: The Uvi and coven members
Where: In and around the city land of Aimintas

For coven members who haven't been in Aimintas very long, the panic of the Palai the past few days may seem like overkill. The day goes by rather quietly and Aimintas looks like a ghost town throughout the morning and most of the afternoon. Not one Palai can be seen, with shops closed and the roads virtually empty, aside from coven members. It isn't until the sky is turning a nice shade of pink that things begin. Observant people who may be gazing up at the ocean will see the very small dots in the sky that begin to approach at a very quick speed. If you're outside, you may get to see the Uvi up close -- but perhaps not for very long. The Uvi have rubbery bones, and they hit the dirt in a curled up position, unrolling themselves and leaping up on long, scaled legs. The shortest Uvi might come in at five feet tall, but most range from six to seven. They're lithe and gilled -- you may think they want to rely on stealth, but the sound coming out of their gills is very loud and raspy. There's no way you can't hear them coming as the ominous and rapid noise follows them everywhere. Some of them are walking around empty handed, eyes scanning and striding up to buildings, banging on the outside and observing the inside of the house as much as they possibly can. Others are carrying large, bleached tools made of fish bone and teeth. Some look like long blades, while others look like long axes. These are used for cutting into doors and other violent tasks they feel the need to complete. A ▢ If your character is wandering the streets, whether of their own ignorance or because they're part of the team trying to protect/negotiate with the Palai, they're very likely to run into one of the Uvi. While left to their own devices they'll only be focused on sniffing out Palai, but they're committed to going after anything they see alive and moving. If your character confronts the Uvi, they better be prepared for an attack. B ▢ Alternatively, maybe your character is caught outside and ill-equipped to handle the Uvi. Running is an option! ...But they better be able to run fast. Maybe your character gets lucky enough to run into someone who can help them, but they'd best hope they find each other fast. C ▢ Your character may also be committed to love and justice, fighting the forces of evil with good. It's very unlikely that Palai blood goes unspilled tonight, but your character may be able to prevent it as much as possible. Just be warned: if they confront the Uvi who are trying to break into a Palai house, they're going to be in for a fight. D ▢ Other characters may already be hiding, whether in the coven house or with Palai in their own homes. They'll hear the Uvi's harsh, gasping breathing before they see them, but if they do hear that raspy noise, they'd better be quick thinkers. Whether the Uvi visiting turns into a brawl or a blood bath, eventually the Uvi will return to the ocean with Palai bodies in tow. At around 4 AM, the Uvi begin to shriek, some making noises that are too high pitched for most ears to hear. From the sky, large flying fish descend from the sky and find their masters. The Palai are hoisted onto the back of these creatures and they take off, flying back into the ocean. E ▢ If your character is committed to defeating the Uvi, they may want to try and target the large fish they'll be flying out of. It's possible to kill them in the air, but watch where they fall. They're incredibly large -- larger than the sharks and bigger fish that have fallen out of the sky before. They can also be killed on the ground, but you'll also have to do with their protective Uvi owners. F ▢ Maybe your character is more into the idea of following the Uvi back home. It's possible! Once the Uvi breach the ocean, they swim fast through the dark water for miles and miles. The journey is treacherous, and some may stop the trek to attack in the water where they're more at home. If your character makes it to their lair, they'll find that it's a dense wad of seaweed that stays static in the ocean. The Uvi are used to the toxicity of the leaves, but trying to enter means touching these leaves that leave large, skin-melting welts as they grow and burst. G ▢ Wildcard! How will your character handle this violent and volatile situation.

c - fighting the good fight

[As much as Haru thinks that two forces fighting with each other will get them nowhere... she won't stand for the Uvi going after Palai or the members of the coven alike!

If she finds a Palai in trouble, she will protect them. The same goes for her fellow coven members. First she brings up a barrier, and if someone happens to be paying enough attention... Haru is using the blunt end of her axe in an attempt to not harm the Uvi too much either. Knocking the Uvi away a few feet, and in some instances even scaring them off.

Though she won't always be this lucky. As it turns out, attacking the Uvi only make them a lot more angrier than they might have been before. If anyone is nearby she's going to shout for a little bit of assistance.]

If you could lend a hand, please!

[Alternatively, a member of the coven may catch her summoning this creature. Using an array of offensive and defensive skills with it. Though she only uses this when a group of the Uvi have her backed into a corner and she needs something to scare them away.

Pro-tip: Don't try to stop them when they're in a group. ]

d - you can't help everyone.

[After a tiring time of protecting the Palai (and not completely succeeding), Haru is going to take herself around to the place where the Coven members are staying. She will be on the look out for anyone that looks like they may need some minimal first aid.]

Are you hurt anywhere?

[Her gentle and even tone calls out to anyone she finds around. She doesn't have healing...but she can at least try.

If she couldn't help all of the Palai, then at least let her help her fellow coven members.]

[ There's no way he would ignore this kind of a request, especially with so many enraged Uvi around. ]

Understood.

[ He'll sneak up on them from behind to keep their attention away from Haru and the Palai she's protecting. His options are pretty limited with his weapon being just a few knives, but the taunt is working surprisingly well as they're focused on catching him now, instead of attacking the larger group. ]

I'll hold them off for a while. Please guide the Palai to safety in the meantime, I'll join you as fast as I only can.

[There is an audible sigh of relief.]

Right, thank you. If I get them somewhere safe and you haven't caught up... I will come back.

[She would also make sure this group of Palai were in safe hands before she came back. To the few stragglers she will push them back as she's trying to herd this group of Palai away from their attackers.

Should Haru be worried about her help catching up? Probably not! But is she? Absolutely.]

[ Haru you're too good!! ]

All right. Please be careful.

[ He appears next to her just for a few seconds to relay the answer. The Palai will reach safety if they're guided by Haru, Hibiki absolutely sure of that. For now, though, he needs to focus on his own task, namely keeping the Uvi busy. Hibiki is too fast for them, but it doesn't necessarily mean that he can lower his guard. Actually, when they're infuriated, it's much more difficult to predict the attack. Which becomes the main reason why Hibiki is taking so much time—most of the enemies have knocked each other out with their weapons, but he's having trouble with the remaining four, clearly more skilled in combat than the rest of them. ]

Persistent...

[Look she's just concerned!!

Along the way she is going to fight off a few more of the Uvi. Yelling "back off" each time one gets too close. She feels like a protective force like this and that makes her feel good.]

... where is he?

[She's going to give Hibiki a few more moments, if he doesn't show up by the time she's handed off the group of Palai to someone else she is definitely coming back.]

[ The good news is that he's coming and that they'll probably meet halfway through. The bad news, however, is that he's not alone. While he managed to get rid of the previous group of Uvi for good, he's been spotted by another one that's chasing him now. ]

I'm truly sorry but without my blades...

[ Breathing heavily, he bows in front of Haru. This excuse is distasteful and he hates to trouble another person, but there's no other way. If only he was more confident in his magic powers...alas. ]

I'll help you out, though. I can keep distracting them so you don't have to fight them all at once.

[mapsio]

Please, don't worry about it.

[She's going to allow Hibiki to do the distracting while she does the hard hitting. If he can lead them towards her she can knock the wind out of them, causing them to scamper away.]

Are you doing okay?

[Once the biggest chunk of them have scurried off, she's going to take a breath and wave her ax threateningly at any of them that dare come closer. But it's becoming rather obvious that Haru doesn't have the stamina that Hibiki might have.]

[ look you guys might've just met but he's not going to let these guys win. they seem hostile, and if part of their mission is to protect the palai--who also seem like they just want peaceful resolution--then he's going to help where he can.

mako steps in right before an uvi on her backside attacks; he throws a punch at it, fire surrounding his fist, and manages to chase it back and give them a few seconds of breathing room. ]

You okay?

[After she's given a few moments to breath, she reaches up and rubs her jaw. One of the confrontational little sucks popped her in the face— and they received the blunt end of her axe in return.]

I'm just fine.

[She takes her hat off, fanning herself with it. PROB SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED SHE'S WEARING HER PHANTOM THIEF THREADS BUT....lmao.]

Are you okay?

[ WELL THEN. that's one hell of a getup, how does she fight in that? more importantly though, there's an uvi that makes a beeline for mako; mako promptly socks it right in the face with some added flare from his firebending. ]

I'm fine.

[ no scratches here, at least. he sees her rub her jaw, but figures it's just a minor injury. ]

Seems like they aren't hard to fend off, huh?

[It's easy! Or maybe she's just used to it! Something like that. The jaw rubbing is definitely minor and more of an annoyance than anything else.]

They're not hard to knock back.

[She shoves one back with the blunt end of her ax right as she says that.]

But they are extremely persistent.

[ MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF BOTH... ]

They really are- [ said just as he punches another one out of the way ]

How much longer do we need to do this?

[ just because if they keep this up, they're both gonna get worn out. there's so many to fend off, and he doesn't know when the recon's gonna start... ]

We need to get to a point we can retreat.

[Haru kicks one of them.] Don't you creatures know not to mess with someone with an ax?!

[WELL THAT SURE WAS AGGRESSIVE.]

[After hours of trying to defend the Palai and others, Riku has finally retreated to the house that the coven is occupying for a rest. His hair is sweat soaked and there are stains of blood on his clothing, most of which isn't his.

But he does have a freshly bleeding wound on his shoulder that he's using one hand to cover up, attempting to staunch the blood.]

Shoulder...[He bites out the word through the pain.] They...surprised me.

[mapsio]

Oh, dear.

[She can't help the faint surprise in her voice. She knew the Uvi were attacking people... but that wound was looking pretty serious.]

Hold on just a moment, lets go sit down. I don't really have healing powers but I can at least disinfect and wrap it until we can find a healer... is that okay?

[shadowsthedawn]

[He nods and follows her to a spot to sit down with some relief. He's lost enough blood that he's beginning to grow dizzy and he doesn't want to make anything worse by falling over or fainting. He would never live it down if his friends found out.]

That's fine. I just need you to...stop the bleeding for now.

[mapsio]

[She's going to find something and find something quick. She will do her best with her minimal first aid skills.]

I'm going to tie this pretty tight, okay?

[She starts wrapping his shoulder, and making the wrap tight.]

Tell me if it hurts.

[He bites his lip to keep from crying out as the bandage presses tightly against his wound. It's painful, but the only other alternative is to risk bleeding out and he's not liking those chances.

Once it's tightened he takes a deep breath and exhales slowly.]

It's fine.

[An obvious lie if his pinched tone of voice is anything to go by.]

You shouldn't bleed out like that.

[She's making sure it's secure before taking a step back.]

Did the Uvi cut you that deeply?

Yes!

[the clear, crisp tone of a girl's voice rings out as another member of the coven joins the fray, responding to haru's call for help. she may realize that she's heard it before—albeit over a telepathic link. in any case, a silver flash of light darts between the blunt end of haru's axe and the several uvi surrounding her, and a long, blond braid dancing in the air is the only clue before the flash of light shapes into a person, and this person knocks multiple uvi to the ground at once with hard, clanging strikes of a weapon.

she stands in front of haru immediately after, guarding her, gripping what might appear to be a lance in one hand... until a closer look reveals it's in fact a battle standard, with a flag attached to the end of the lengthy pole. the woman—who is really no taller than the shortest uvi—is covered in shining armor.]

[It takes her a moment to realize what was going on. From the flash of light to the girl now standing in front of her. Haru can't say she's ever seen something like that happen before.

She's certain that she was just saved from the second wave of Uvi attack on her already exhausted body.]

Thank you...

[She catches her breath, knowing she recognizes this voice.]

[in better times, jeanne could smile—being in the midst of a battle is no occasion to chat lightly. she turns her head to check on haru, and now her face is revealed, as well.]

Are you all right, Haru? Do you have any injuries?

[mapsio]

Just a few scratches, it's nothing to worry about.

[She takes a deep breath, and instead of standing behind Jeanne she stands behind her. Making sure to keep an eye on their rear while Jeanne had an eye on their front.]

We need to make sure that the Palai hiding around this area can get to safety.

[goodlistener]

[even the thought of only scratches on haru draws some concern; she could cast healing magecraft, to at least cure that. but it's important to trust one's allies. frowning slightly, jeanne reluctantly but firmly nods.

her attention should be directed towards the area in front of her, and her sides. she watches the struggling uvi before her, willing to allow haru to protect her back, and at the same time peers into the scenery with her advanced eyesight. anything could be a sign of hiding palai or a way to access them inside.]

... Of course. Have you spotted any out in the open? If the Uvi are here, they must have sensed their presence close by.

The reason those Uvi were attacking is because I passed off a group of Palai to someone else. Instead of going after the Palai...they just came after me instead. So that is why I'm here. Forgive me for being a little bit reckless.

[It seems like Haru would have willingly fought on if Jeanne hadn't showed up.]

We should probably carefully comb this area.
