[WORLD ONE | AIMINTAS REBUILDING]
Who: Coven members and the Palai
Where: Rebuilding the Aimintas marketplace.
When: Day 59
Open/Closed: Open to All
OOC Note: For Prompt A -- the egg claiming is closed to those who selected eggs from this thread! Anyone can use the prompt creatively, but please don't give your character an egg if they aren't listed in the above thread.

The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!
Where: Rebuilding the Aimintas marketplace.
When: Day 59
Open/Closed: Open to All

Many efforts have been made to help rebuild Aimintas, which has become a little bit water-logged and bloodied after the confrontation a few days previously. The Palai are fully capable of rebuilding their own city on their own, but with coven members around and willing to help, hopefully the repairs that need to be done can be completed much more quickly. The marketplace is quite expansive, which is both good and bad when it comes to coven involvement. While the areas that need to be repaired are expansive, this creates the opportunity for most coven members to help rebuild in some way or another. With everyone taking responsibility for a task, the work can get done much more quickly. Aside from the repairs, many Palai are still in mourning. Because this incident happened during their mating season, many Palai are essentially shut out of reproduction or are going to potentially lay eggs a month from now without one of their previously supposed parents. The demeanor around the marketplace is glum for this reason, though the steadfast species is certainly not giving up.
B â–¢ Half of the battle when it comes to rebuilding the marketplace will be the large quantities of standing water in certain stalls and enclosed spaces. Some of the Uvi's ocean masses burst or were used as a sort of liquid smoke grenade for defensive measures -- some water was absorbed into the dirt in outdoor eating areas, but a lot of it is stuck in businesses, suites and other rooms. The Palai have buckets, but they sure could use a hand getting this stuff out of here. C â–¢ From slamming large sharks into the front of stone store fronts to stabbing down doors without barriers, the Uvi certainly did a number on Aimintas. Stone fixtures are certainly more difficult to repair, though the Palai have concocted a cement paste that they're using to help fill in seams. The biggest issue to deal with here is that water-logged and damaged wood needs to be hauled away or destroyed (safely!). At the same time, new wood needs to be installed to doors and stalls, and tables need to be rebuilt in order to return the majority of shops to well-working order. D â–¢ Working hard isn't the only task at hand, either. There are Palai in restaurants and eateries that ARE mostly functional, hard at work preparing canteens and food sacks that need to be passed out to workers expending so much energy for their city. This also means the return of their energy drink (see TDM #2, Prompt E). This can cause hallucinations, power malfunctions and extreme giddiness and euphoria, for those who didn't experience this drink the last time it made the rounds. E â–¢ Another "low-level" task focuses on keeping the younger Palai entertained and out from under the feet of those who are working hard to repair the city. The hatchery is being emptied for repairs, so one of the more untouched open-air areas of the marketplace is now a makeshift daycare. There are obviously Palai helping to attend to the children, but there are a lot of them -- some are more docile and easy to entertain, others scuttle out of the enclosure and try to help the coven with their chores. This may or may not go well...have you made a new little friend? F â–¢ More detail-oriented coven members can help with the management side of things. These tasks can include restocking and carting a round food stuffs (produce, shrimp, other food goods), getting rid of damaged goods (some of these are only slightly damaged, so maybe you can get some discounted, barely working merchandise), and redecorating storefronts. This work is great for those who aren't as good at physical labor and still want to help. G â–¢ Most of the Palai who were put up against the Uvi found themselves fatally wounded, though there were some lucky lizards out there. One of the other open-air areas of the marketplace is essentially a medic tent, which serves as both a makeshift hospital for coven members and Palai alike who are still nursing Uvi wounds, as well as a first aid station for any rebuilding-related injuries. Healers would definitely be appreciated! H â–¢ Wildcard! |

[As it happens, Xion is spending a lot of her time in the marketplace. It's... where she's most useful, for obvious reasons. Wherever she sees Palai with buckets, she goes over and pulls the water up off the ground, cleaning the area more thoroughly than simple scooping could do, if a bit more slowly.
She also has a tendency to sometimes leave things behind, like fish or salt, which'll need to be discarded or swept up later.
Then of course, there's the fact that she has a large round object tucked into a sling she's wrapped over one shoulder. A large round object that she keeps looking down at periodically with wide eyes and stiff shoulders.]
H.
[No matter what she told herself, the thoughts kept coming back, whenever she had a moment's rest or time to herself. During the battle, she'd barely used her Keyblade at all. Sure, she hadn't like... neglected it or anything. But her first instinct had been to use her water abilities to disrupt the enemy.
Eventually, the question reaches out to network, almost unbidden.]
This is probably a weird or bad time but... does anybody feel like they... like they like their powers, more than they should?
[Ugh, no no no. They have enough going on right now. There's so much to do and the Palai are mourning so many people, and... and she'd have to explain to anybody who asks and she isn't even sure she can do that to herself.]
Sorry. I probably shouldn't have said anything.

( Having magic related to setting things on fire while also being in a Big Mood isn't exactly a great combination.
Destroying all this water damaged wood proves simple when you can control it bursting into flame, emitting almost as much steam as it does smoke. There's a lot of wood to destroy, so his bonfire is actually quite large -- enough so that Palai have just started tossing in whatever destroyed goods need to be gotten rid of.
While helpful, the fire itself is starting to get a tiny bit out of hand, perhaps unwittingly. At this point, Emil's propping up a wall and resting his eyes, so maybe poke him and...does he even know how to put fires out yet?? Help?? )
d;
( Time for more work that's not particularly hard. At the very least he's being helpful -- Emil has a large canvas bag that contains a variety of different food stuffs, from parchment covered shrimp wraps to those strangely coloured energy drinks that sound like they crackle before you even open their pouch. He got roped into this job after going to get something to drink from one of the restaurants, and now he's sharing the wealth. )
Here, ( He extends one of the strange drink pouches, wagging it slightly so you know to take it, ) you should probably drink this.
g;
( After eventually returning to actual hard labor, Emil had a bit of a slip with one of the large bone-crafted saws the Palai were using to make new, unruined furniture with. It's not an especially bad wound, but one that needs some attention outside of simply ignoring it -- and he's also a tiny bit of a drama queen. He's immediately concerned about the blood dripping from the gash in his forearm and stinging from the pain.
A few Palai surround him as he enters the medical area, eager to take a look at the wound he's holding in the air, wrapped in a cloth he got from one of the shopkeepers. No, no lizard is going to give him first-aid. He spots a human, so he'll approach them instead )
Uhm, can you please take a look at this...? ( please don't need stitches, please don't need stitches )
a;
( Rounding out his day by being given an egg...well, okay. At first Emil is a bit apprehensive, but then he thinks about how this is the start of a Palai life and he's essentially convinced. The responsibility of Palai parenthood will eventually hit him like bricks, but for now he's pretty invigorated by the idea of taking care of his egg, despite the day being so murky.
Egg-sitting isn't exactly up Emil's alley, but he isn't a total lost cause -- he's been gifted a sturdy piece of fabric that he's trying to make into some kind of egg sling for the time being, but the problem is that this god damn thing is round and thus keeps slipping and rolling out of the cloth as he tries to manipula--
Oh shit, there it goes again. Please take mercy on his egg baby and not kick it or anything, even though it just rolled over to say hello? )

[The aftermath of the battle isn't pretty, the marketplace is a mess, the buildings are a mess... and there are Palai trying to recover even now. Just as she is. Haru pays no mind to the bandages on her healing gashes as she starts helping around. Being careful, but being helpful.
At some point earlier that day, one of the Palai adults had spoken with her about taking an egg with her. She very well couldn't refuse as it was the least she could do to help the Palai feel safe about their young. So she definitely 100% has an egg in a baby wrap (rucksack style) on her back.
She'll approach if anyone looks like they need help.]
Here, let me help you with that.
f
[Later on, Haru and her egg can be found going through the food supply. She's looking for expiration dates and thinks that were damaged in the fray. It's sad to have to throw things out... but hey, at least it wasn't the majority?
Haru can also be found at the bakery that's in the marketplace, redecorating their storefront. IT's going to look as good as new when she's done!]
See, all we need to do now is sweep! It will be as good as new!
g
[Haru will be sitting in one of the medical tents giving basic first aid to those that she can. She's no healer, but she can sure wrap a sturdy bandage!]

Waver had sat out the previous fight. He wasn't equipped for that kind of combat, and knew he'd be more of a burden than an advantage in that kind of a raid. But what he could do was help with the rebuilding, even if it was just something mindless, like mopping up water and moving buckets.
He was quiet as he worked, rather than complaining that his hands were starting to get sore or else his back was starting to hurt. Waver, instead, seemed overly focused on the task at hand, and only spoke when he needed something.
"Can I get a new bucket? This one's full."
E
"Okay, someone give me something else."
Waver's hands had decided that you know what? You're done. We're going to cramp up and be in pain from being in one position and constantly moving water. So he ended up in a place where he'd mostly just be standing around and hopefully acting like a weird human sheep dog and corralling some of the Palai kids who tried to get out of the makeshift daycare area.
That hadn't happened. What happened instead was Waver tried to distract one of the runaways with a wall of smoke, only to get crowded around by a sea of kids demanding that he make this, that, or something else with his powers.
That suited Waver just fine. It forced him to work on his abilities, and he now had a captive audience. Between his hands hovered a fairly good approximation of a tuna fish, and within seconds, it became a shrimp.
"There, two very different fish. Anyone else?"
His hands still hurt, but whatever.

[Madoka has a very young brother, so she's right at home wrangling children — though, she's probably also a lot more tired than she lets on, so ... any quiet activity she can convince the gaggle of Palai she's been put in charge of to partake in is a relief to her.]
[so, folding paper cranes it is — it isn't the first time she's taught this to the Palai, but they seem enthusiastic all the same. she's seated next to a decently sized stack of notebooks, and a similar stack of papers that she's trimmed to the perfect folding size — and she's just talking as she walks them through the steps.]
... And the story goes, if you fold a thousand of these yourself, you might just have a wish of yours come true.
[have a seat next to Madoka, and she'll smile, and hand over a small stack of papers.] Are you hoping to make a wish, too?
[wishes are important to her, after all.]
g.
[the medical tent is another place where she's in her element, as she's able to heal. though, because of the hard limit on her healing magic, she's hanging on to it until someone severely injured is brought in. is that person you?]
[that being said, Madoka's learned a lot — probably, unfortunately, more than she ever could have expected — about first aid these past few days. she can set broken bones. she can stitch up deep wounds. she has a newfound knack for cleaning and bandaging pretty much anything.]
[she may not have the experience that others do, but she's calm and determined, and ready to help out anybody who passes through.]

[Well, this is horrible. Truthfully, Sanaki hasn't seen destruction on this scale before, not up close--Begnion has a way of being at war a lot without ever losing so much ground that its own major cities are on the receiving end. But she does know how cities work, and she's overseen major reconstruction projects before, albeit in paperwork form.
So as soon as she can stomach the sight of the town like this, she doesn't hesitate to take charge of entire teams of Palai while they work. She's got the attention of a group of a few dozen setting out for repairs.]
--no, no, you don't have enough manpower to work on that many buildings at once. Your priorities should be medical facilities, then food stores, then any building large enough to be used for emergency group housing, then you can worry about individual residences. Split into three teams: medicine, food, shelter. ...No, teams of equal size-- must I appoint leaders for you?
[...and of course, there's an extra benefit to playing this role. Thanks to her new power, they'll be able to work twice as fast until they finish that to-do list.]
B
[By later in the day, Sanaki has transitioned pretty much seamlessly from unofficial upper management to getting involved with the dirty work with... honestly shocking enthusiasm. She did of course change clothes first.
But she takes to bailing out a flooded pharmacy almost like she's having fun--she can only lift the smallest bucket the Palai had when it's full of water, and even then she's working up a hell of a sweat, but she doesn't slow down. Except when she loses her balance and pratfalls into the knee-deep water, and a few times when she just goes overboard and needs to catch her breath afterwards, but the point is she doesn't seem to be at all discouraged.
Part of her is just very determined to help, but also... it's like she's a pirate on a sinking ship! And she's actually getting pretty dirty! And getting real exercise, with endorphins and everything!
She doesn't get out much back home.]

[In spite of her desire to help, Rotty also has a crippling allergy to hard labor. So, when the opportunity came to use everyone's favorite Pallai beverage, she was able to justify it fairly quickly. For one, it was a way to help! For two, it wasn't that hard! And for three, she could totally get a laugh out of the new kids puking the brains out over the rush. In fact, she would be keeping an especially keen eye for any non-Palai that approaches with curiosity instead of well-informed dread.]
Coooome and get it~ Energy in a bottle, straight from the Eltos, its that zippy dippy energy drinky that's going to put a spring in your step.
Huh... [She takes a moment, looking over the bottle.] ...you need a name... [Thinkiiing... thinkiiing, got it!]
Heeey you! Get a load of Banzai Palai! It's the best thing to get you through all this back-breaking work!
E -- Dangerous Babysitting
[Of course, even handing out drinks gets boring after a while, and its not long before she gets an earful of the situation with the daycare. Seeing another opportunity, she decides she's going to try her hand at this taking care of kids thing. Rottytops style, of course.]
[Taking a step toward an unattended section of kids, she slams a foot onto the ground to get the kids attention.]
ALRIGHTY, KIDS! I have one quick question for yah! How do you feel like DANCING?
[With that enthusiastic intro, she stars off with a brief "Theeey" before getting into a song she totally didn't steal from an obnoxiously goody-two-shoes genie. As the song gets into it, she does a dance for the kids, inviting them to sing and dance and play around. Its fast, its high energy, and with her stamina, she could keep this up going for a while.]
[Somebody should probably watch her, though, her feet are getting a bit close to some of the smaller ones that get underfoot.]

[ he'll be the first to admit he's not very good with kids, but he can hardly leave them alone when their parents are busy and anyway, nobody should have to be dragged into a war they don't understand or want to be involved in uless they specifically asked to.
so there was giorno, playing skip rope with a couple of little ones. when he's done doing a turn, he gives it to the next kid, who promptly tries to copy what its friends were doing, and giorno is gentle as he tells the palai kid not to jump too high, or too quickly.
a game of tag is suggested after a while, and a couple of them drag him to the game, and giorno smiles. ]
Hey. Do you want to join? It's just a game of tag.
[ most of the kids were just a little past his knee in terms of height, it can't really be a complicated game, but he's enjoying himself anyhow. ]

[So, Robin was handed an egg. He'd been hesitant to take it, to say the least; his squad of completely insane underdressed Servants at home aside, Robin's really not a people person, and even less of a parent. It's a bad idea on all accounts, but eventually he gives in to the request to take it, the Palai only becoming more insistent - and desperate - to give the orphaned egg to someone strong enough to care for it.
So he takes it, and tells the Palai not to worry, and sets off looking for a family unit that can take it instead. Surely they must have missed a childless family, right? There has to be someone here who can take care of it.
But the longer Robin looks, the more obvious it becomes that the Palai really don't have the resources or the population to take care of the hatchling that will come out of the egg, so he resigns to his fate as an adoptive parent. When he's not looking for any lizard people to adopt the egg, he's holding it carefully in his lap, keeping it wrapped up in his cloak like a blanket. He's trying not to get attached, especially since it hasn't even hatched yet, but he may already be coming up with potential names.]
I think I'd never hear the end of it if I went with Elizabeth...damn, what was that stupid dragon's name...? Fafnir, or something?
[This is hopeless. He already likes the little thing.]
C. your friendly(?) neighborhood robin hood
[Before he was Robin Hood, he was some nameless villager in a quiet little town, so hauling wood and fixing up damage done to doors and walls feels like second nature to him. He was never very involved with his village, but he did help out whenever he could; admittedly, that wasn't often, since they thought he was possessed by the fair folk, but that also meant they usually didn't help him very much when he needed to fix up his own place, either. So he's definitely got enough experience to know what he's doing.]
Here, give me the last leg, this table will be finished in no time. How many more do you need fixed up?
[The number never seems to go down, but Robin doesn't mind helping. They don't seem to need his hunting skills for anything, with the Uvi gone his traps are useless, and while he is knowledgeable about plants, most of that knowledge refers to poison - and he isn't sure if the old plant-based remedies he uses are any good for the Palai, anyway. The last thing he wants to do is accidentally poison them. He firmly believes the only poisoning that should happen is intentional.
So that leaves woodworking. Sometimes a Palai child will try to climb into the hood of his cloak while he works, other times he'll be keeping the egg in there when he's not taking a break to keep it warm. It's almost never empty, though.]

Of which 9S has none, just saying. Despite the fact that he's an android, 9S is still offered an egg. He watches it in dubious, pointed silence before accepting, supposing that he can make himself more useful by helping out. It's more of a commitment than that, he realizes, but surely as a Scanner unit he's up to a task that basically requires a lot of research. So it is that he can be found sitting on the lip of a crumbling fountain with his new charge settled on his lap, going over his data. This comes in the form of a holographic screen projected in front of him, which he occasionally taps and sweeps his gloved finger across to continue reading]
Let's see, dietary needs...
[Totally focused on this new task]
Bri[C]k and Mortar
[The efforts at repair are, at least, more straightforward to 9S than the task of taking care of an egg. He's shed his uniform coat to reveal a pink t-shirt 2B picked out for him and wrapped the coat around the egg for warmth, which is straightforward enough. But he's having an interesting time balancing this bundle in one arm all the time while trying to be of assistance in this area, crouched among the Palai with holographic screens aglow in front of him]
See, if you use this method, it should be more structurally sound...
[He enlarges some diagrams, well aware that they don't read in the same language, running his finger over one screen as he holds his egg close against his chest. It's fortunate that androids like him are naturally warm, though he suspects even his body heat coupled with his coat may not be enough]
[F]iner Points
[Not one to turn down something that makes use of his attention to detail, but there remains one problem. He doesn't read the local language, and he's relied on Jude's ability up to this point. For that reason he hasn't really needed to pick up that information, but now he supposes it's necessary so he can go over these inventory logs and help out a local bakery.
He can be found camped out in one corner of the library with his egg bundled up in his YoRHa coat, books arrayed around him as he reads. Thanks to 2B, he's got a pale pink t-shirt, so at least shedding his coat doesn't mean he's going without something to wear. Not that he minds, being an android and all.
Among these books is an unusual little notebook of sorts, clearly handwritten, but if anyone steps too close he'll drag it closer to himself without even looking up from his work. It's his rather unusual point of reference in teaching himself to read the ledgers he'll need to for that proprietor]

Once upon a time, in a temple called Shoujouji, there lived a cheerful monk. As a music lover, the monk would always enjoy herself by playing the shamisen after chanting. But one night, on the night of the full moon...
[Kosuzu's not exactly good with heavy lifting, construction, or first aid. But there's a lot of kids who need distracting right now, and that's something she can do.
The book she has open in front of her is the same murder mystery novel she had with her when she arrived, but it's mostly just a prop to make it feel like a proper storytelling. She's got a pretty good number of appropriate stories she can more or less recount from memory. The shamisen-playing monk and her music battle against a mob of unruly tanuki. The exorcist and the haunted love letters. The living masks who stole a village's hope. They're mostly tales of troublemaking youkai and the humans who dealt with them, which is what Kosuzu knows best from her old life.
Whichever Palai kids have enough of an attention span to sit through her stories have gathered in front of her as a quiet audience. If anyone from the coven is interested in hearing some stories from another world, they're free to sit in, too.]

[despite being worn out from his overexertion of power, Geir isn't blind to the fact that he's one of the best choices for getting the broken wood and debris away from the city. his tough scales aren't likely to be pierced by splinters, his large body is strong enough to scoop up a lot of trash at a time, and most importantly, he can get it all out by flying... no matter how miserably sore his body feels.
obviously, he's helping, but he's still grumpy about it.]
Ugh, if you hold that side of the beam steady, I'll pull it out--
E (or a living playpen)
[once Geir gets too tired to assist in the hauling, one of the Palai notices a much more ingenious use for him than simply letting him rest; it takes time and materials to set up playpens for the babies, obviously, neither of which are in huge supply in Aimintas at the moment. however, for a certain dragon who likes to rest in an untidy heap of coils anyway... all he has to do is lay flat and loop his body out a little wider to become a fence even the most determined youngster can't climb.
not that they aren't trying. Geir is speaking to one toddler who's determined to scale Mount Geirside and ignoring the mountain's built-in babysitter.]
Haven't you done that twenty times already? It's-- it's not going to work all of a sudden. Your weird little legs are too short.
