[WORLD ONE | AIMINTAS REBUILDING]

Who: Coven members and the Palai
Where: Rebuilding the Aimintas marketplace.
When: Day 59
Open/Closed: Open to All
OOC Note: For Prompt A -- the egg claiming is closed to those who selected eggs from this thread! Anyone can use the prompt creatively, but please don't give your character an egg if they aren't listed in the above thread.

  • The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
  • There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!

Many efforts have been made to help rebuild Aimintas, which has become a little bit water-logged and bloodied after the confrontation a few days previously. The Palai are fully capable of rebuilding their own city on their own, but with coven members around and willing to help, hopefully the repairs that need to be done can be completed much more quickly.

The marketplace is quite expansive, which is both good and bad when it comes to coven involvement. While the areas that need to be repaired are expansive, this creates the opportunity for most coven members to help rebuild in some way or another. With everyone taking responsibility for a task, the work can get done much more quickly.

Aside from the repairs, many Palai are still in mourning. Because this incident happened during their mating season, many Palai are essentially shut out of reproduction or are going to potentially lay eggs a month from now without one of their previously supposed parents. The demeanor around the marketplace is glum for this reason, though the steadfast species is certainly not giving up.

A ▢ Because some Palai families were killed in their entirety, the hatchery is being cleaned out. There is a big discussion in the marketplace with those responsible for taking care of eggs making sure they have the future Palai youth properly sorted. Those eggs that are orphaned have mostly been handed out to Palai family units, though there are some left over. Because the Palai trust the coven members as stronger and more capable to protect their eggs than they are right now, these eggs are being handed out to them instead of doubling up already child-bearing families. Are you willing to take an egg?

B ▢ Half of the battle when it comes to rebuilding the marketplace will be the large quantities of standing water in certain stalls and enclosed spaces. Some of the Uvi's ocean masses burst or were used as a sort of liquid smoke grenade for defensive measures -- some water was absorbed into the dirt in outdoor eating areas, but a lot of it is stuck in businesses, suites and other rooms. The Palai have buckets, but they sure could use a hand getting this stuff out of here.

C ▢ From slamming large sharks into the front of stone store fronts to stabbing down doors without barriers, the Uvi certainly did a number on Aimintas. Stone fixtures are certainly more difficult to repair,
though the Palai have concocted a cement paste that they're using to help fill in seams. The biggest issue to deal with here is that water-logged and damaged wood needs to be hauled away or destroyed (safely!). At the same time, new wood needs to be installed to doors and stalls, and tables need to be rebuilt in order to return the majority of shops to well-working order.

D ▢ Working hard isn't the only task at hand, either. There are Palai in restaurants and eateries that ARE mostly functional, hard at work preparing canteens and food sacks that need to be passed out to workers expending so much energy for their city. This also means the return of their energy drink (see TDM #2, Prompt E). This can cause hallucinations, power malfunctions and extreme giddiness and euphoria, for those who didn't experience this drink the last time it made the rounds.

E ▢ Another "low-level" task focuses on keeping the younger Palai entertained and out from under the feet of those who are working hard to repair the city. The hatchery is being emptied for repairs, so one of the more untouched open-air areas of the marketplace is now a makeshift daycare. There are obviously Palai helping to attend to the children, but there are a lot of them -- some are more docile and easy to entertain, others scuttle out of the enclosure and try to help the coven with their chores. This may or may not go well...have you made a new little friend?

F ▢ More detail-oriented coven members can help with the management side of things. These tasks can include restocking and carting a round food stuffs (produce, shrimp, other food goods), getting rid of damaged goods (some of these are only slightly damaged, so maybe you can get some discounted, barely working merchandise), and redecorating storefronts. This work is great for those who aren't as good at physical labor and still want to help.

G ▢ Most of the Palai who were put up against the Uvi found themselves fatally wounded, though there were some lucky lizards out there. One of the other open-air areas of the marketplace is essentially a medic tent, which serves as both a makeshift hospital for coven members and Palai alike who are still nursing Uvi wounds, as well as a first aid station for any rebuilding-related injuries. Healers would definitely be appreciated!

        H ▢ Wildcard!

[9S straightens his posture and smiles]

Yes, that's me. [A beat, after which he addresses her first point] And don't worry about it, I uh. Kind of get immersed when I'm working.

[Even in his off time he tends to mire himself in analyzing data relevant to his interests. That's always been the way things go with him, and he doesn't imagine it'll change anytime soon.

Still, maybe he should be a bit more mindful of his surroundings...]

    Yeah, I can see that.

[ She smiles. It's okay, Ann finds it kind of endearing. Like how Yusuke gets really involved in his sketches and paintings, or how Futaba gets really into doing whatever maniacal things she's doing on her computer and completely tunes out whatever's going on around her. ]

I'm Ann Takamaki. Remember, we talked through the telepathy a little while ago?

[ That conversation definitely stuck out to her. I mean, it's not every day you meet an actual robot? ]

[It's been a while, and he'd spoken to a number of people over the strange mental network they've all been connected to. Still, of those individuals he doesn't forget names, and there's one conversation he can link to her pretty quickly]

Oh, you're the one who used those emoji-things, right?

[Not that he ever forgets, unless certain forceful measures are involved]

    Yeah!

[ If that's how he wants to remember her... sure. It's not like every man, woman, and child knows how to use emojis where she's from—but, he isn't exactly any of those things, is he? ]

You know, I think I was picturing someone totally different when I was talking to you.

[ Other than his blindfold thing, he looks totally normal? Like, she probably never would've guessed that he was a robot. Wait—is that a rude thing to think?? ]

You're actually not the first person to tell me something like that.

[Although 9S can't really imagine what other way an android would look. By definition they're made in the image of mankind, so he can only wonder what others expect to see. Maybe it's an expectation based on the level of technology available to them?

    That's his best guess, anyway]

It's tough to imagine being any different, but then... Androids have been like me for thousands of years, more or less.

[Different units and models of course.

But he's been a bit rude, hasn't he? 9S scoots over, gesturing to the spot he's left vacant]

    Do you...want to sit down?
    pussywhips: (026)

    [personal profile] pussywhips 2017-09-13 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
    Huh? Oh, sure!

[ Since he's offering—she takes a seat next to him, smoothing her skirt out under her butt before she sits.

A thoughtful sort of expression fills her face then, and she taps a finger against her chin. ]

I guess it's because we don't actually have real androids, so all I can picture is what I've seen in anime and video games, you know? It's way different to actually meet you in person.

[ That's her own obscure way of saying that he's actually real, unlike those anime and video game androids. ]
    deem: (lean)

    [personal profile] deem 2017-09-14 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I've tested a video game for bugs before.

[And he perks up for this small point of connection, if only because he has some concept of what she's referring to. Operative word being "some"]

But there weren't any androids in it...and I haven't heard of anime. What do androids look like in that stuff?

[He watches her curiously, though his goggles effectively mask his eyes. Still, he's turned to face her, so there's that much indication]

    Really? That's pretty cool!

[ She means that—she really enjoys playing games on her Vita, since Japan is the only country that actually cares about the Vita anymore. Having a job that would just let her play video games all day? Sounds like paradise. ]

Hm, well... I guess they look a lot like people, but they usually have crazy colored eyes or cat ears or something. You know, something that makes them different. Orrr they just look like robots, all metal-y and stuff.

[ "Metal-y" is totally a real word. Look it up. ]
    deem: (ponder)

    [personal profile] deem 2017-09-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[9S has never seen a cat before, and he easily surmises that it's a species that must not have survived millennia of the world at war. As such the detail of cat ears is a little abstract, but he can suppose it's fluffy ears.

Weird colored eyes and fluffy ears... how strange]

Except the ear part, that seems more like machine life-forms. Their eyes turn red when they attack, and they don't have skin like we do. Their bodies aren't meant to resemble humans that much either.

[If he just omits the detail of Adam and Eve, which he does, because the thinning line between android and machine is quite difficult for him to reconcile with his own beliefs, programmed or no]
    pussywhips: (057)

    [personal profile] pussywhips 2017-09-17 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
    Huh...

[ Now there are "machine life-forms" being thrown into the mix here. She honestly wouldn't be able to tell someone the difference between a robot or a cyborg or an android or a machine life-form... so she's just going to trust him and assume the future has figured all this stuff out.

Who knew robots were so complicated? Little does she know... ]

Hey, if this is a rude question or something, just say so, okay? But... what is your blindfold for? Can't you see?

[ Seriously, she's dying of curiosity here. ]

[He shakes his head, though the frequency with which he's getting asked that very same thing is starting to get pretty funny to him. Does 2B get asked that as often as he does? Maybe next time he sees her, he ought to ask]

Not rude at all. [It's not like she's assuming he can't see, after all] Lots of people think I'm wearing a blindfold, but these're actually goggles. Standard-issue for YoRHa androids and everything.

[Raising a hand, he taps the material over his temple with one finger, though there's no need to indicate the object of their conversation]

These actually improve vision out in the field, so they're pretty handy for any unit.
