[WORLD ONE | AIMINTAS REBUILDING]

Who: Coven members and the Palai
Where: Rebuilding the Aimintas marketplace.
When: Day 59
Open/Closed: Open to All
OOC Note: For Prompt A -- the egg claiming is closed to those who selected eggs from this thread! Anyone can use the prompt creatively, but please don't give your character an egg if they aren't listed in the above thread.

  • The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
  • There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!

Many efforts have been made to help rebuild Aimintas, which has become a little bit water-logged and bloodied after the confrontation a few days previously. The Palai are fully capable of rebuilding their own city on their own, but with coven members around and willing to help, hopefully the repairs that need to be done can be completed much more quickly.

The marketplace is quite expansive, which is both good and bad when it comes to coven involvement. While the areas that need to be repaired are expansive, this creates the opportunity for most coven members to help rebuild in some way or another. With everyone taking responsibility for a task, the work can get done much more quickly.

Aside from the repairs, many Palai are still in mourning. Because this incident happened during their mating season, many Palai are essentially shut out of reproduction or are going to potentially lay eggs a month from now without one of their previously supposed parents. The demeanor around the marketplace is glum for this reason, though the steadfast species is certainly not giving up.

A ▢ Because some Palai families were killed in their entirety, the hatchery is being cleaned out. There is a big discussion in the marketplace with those responsible for taking care of eggs making sure they have the future Palai youth properly sorted. Those eggs that are orphaned have mostly been handed out to Palai family units, though there are some left over. Because the Palai trust the coven members as stronger and more capable to protect their eggs than they are right now, these eggs are being handed out to them instead of doubling up already child-bearing families. Are you willing to take an egg?

B ▢ Half of the battle when it comes to rebuilding the marketplace will be the large quantities of standing water in certain stalls and enclosed spaces. Some of the Uvi's ocean masses burst or were used as a sort of liquid smoke grenade for defensive measures -- some water was absorbed into the dirt in outdoor eating areas, but a lot of it is stuck in businesses, suites and other rooms. The Palai have buckets, but they sure could use a hand getting this stuff out of here.

C ▢ From slamming large sharks into the front of stone store fronts to stabbing down doors without barriers, the Uvi certainly did a number on Aimintas. Stone fixtures are certainly more difficult to repair,
though the Palai have concocted a cement paste that they're using to help fill in seams. The biggest issue to deal with here is that water-logged and damaged wood needs to be hauled away or destroyed (safely!). At the same time, new wood needs to be installed to doors and stalls, and tables need to be rebuilt in order to return the majority of shops to well-working order.

D ▢ Working hard isn't the only task at hand, either. There are Palai in restaurants and eateries that ARE mostly functional, hard at work preparing canteens and food sacks that need to be passed out to workers expending so much energy for their city. This also means the return of their energy drink (see TDM #2, Prompt E). This can cause hallucinations, power malfunctions and extreme giddiness and euphoria, for those who didn't experience this drink the last time it made the rounds.

E ▢ Another "low-level" task focuses on keeping the younger Palai entertained and out from under the feet of those who are working hard to repair the city. The hatchery is being emptied for repairs, so one of the more untouched open-air areas of the marketplace is now a makeshift daycare. There are obviously Palai helping to attend to the children, but there are a lot of them -- some are more docile and easy to entertain, others scuttle out of the enclosure and try to help the coven with their chores. This may or may not go well...have you made a new little friend?

F ▢ More detail-oriented coven members can help with the management side of things. These tasks can include restocking and carting a round food stuffs (produce, shrimp, other food goods), getting rid of damaged goods (some of these are only slightly damaged, so maybe you can get some discounted, barely working merchandise), and redecorating storefronts. This work is great for those who aren't as good at physical labor and still want to help.

G ▢ Most of the Palai who were put up against the Uvi found themselves fatally wounded, though there were some lucky lizards out there. One of the other open-air areas of the marketplace is essentially a medic tent, which serves as both a makeshift hospital for coven members and Palai alike who are still nursing Uvi wounds, as well as a first aid station for any rebuilding-related injuries. Healers would definitely be appreciated!

        H ▢ Wildcard!

Robin nods, satisfied. It's a shame about his own bird - it would've been a little cooler to have a living example of one to show the Palai. Waver's approximation of a sparrow is pretty cute, though, and it's more than enough for some of the more curious children to move a little closer to examine it.

"Is that something you could always do, or did you pick it up here?" It's not similar to anything else Robin has really ever seen, but he's quickly learning there are far more things he's never seen than he realized. He didn't have to think of them until now, after all.

Waver shook his head no in response to the question, the bird now morphing into a cloud of smoke. It churned aimlessly between Waver's hands, and some of the closer children poked at it out of curiosity. The smoke remained inert, refusing to react to their touch.

"It was the magic I got assigned," he explained, shifting his legs a little to make sure none of the kids tripped over them. "It wouldn't have been something I pursued back home."

"But you did have magic back home?" Not everyone here did, but Robin seems to get on a little better with the people who have some sort of magic in their home worlds, being a magical being himself. "What kind of stuff did you pursue?"

He doesn't really have a reason to ask, and he doesn't want to distract from the Palai kids' storytime, but it seems like they're occupied for now, even if the smoke isn't really doing anything.

Waver wiggled his fingers to keep the smoke changing shape. The fat sparrow became a cat, then a rat, and then it cycled through the three, giving him time to think up an answer that wouldn't invite more questions in front of the kids. No one at that age needed to learn about Grail Wars.

"I'm an alchemist," he said simply. "Different path, that's all."
guerrilla: (we can't get higher than we get)

    [personal profile] guerrilla 2017-09-14 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Robin doesn't know much about alchemy himself; though an alchemist was more or less instrumental in his loss in the Grail War, he's never seen much point in looking into it. "There's alchemy where I'm from, too. They have a school and everything...what was it, Atlas or something? My boss never went, but somehow ended up with one of their uniforms."

He's quickly realized that saying something like "my Master" with no context causes misunderstandings, so maybe phrasing it like this will earn him fewer skeptical glances.

    Atlas?

Oh, no. Oh no, no, no. Hakuno's one thing, but if this guy's a servant, that's another story all together. Waver knows that he's gone pale, and he tries his damndest to keep on talking.

"That's weird," he said, trying his best to sound bored. Mostly he managed.

Robin sees the color drain from Waver's face and gives him a skeptical look, but he's got more important things to do than shake down every vaguely suspicious kid he finds.

"That aside, have you seen a squirrel around? Or a...squirrelly-looking girl, I guess? Kind of fluffy." Robin's gotten so used to leaving his Master in more capable hands that he seems to be losing track of Hakuno more often than he should. "You do know what a squirrel looks like, right?"

Some of the people here - the Palai, for instance - genuinely don't, but all of the smoke animals have been recognizable.
    teratias: (08. Study corner)

    [personal profile] teratias 2017-09-15 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
    "Oh, Hakuno?"

Squirrel like was, as far as Waver was concerned, literal. He tilted his head slightly, now concerned. In truth, Hakuno was one of the few people Waver liked and the very first he had gotten on with instantly.

"Not recently, no. She's probably around somewhere though."
guerrilla: (so take it in don't hold your breath)

    [personal profile] guerrilla 2017-09-15 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Robin crosses his arms, somewhat annoyed by Waver's response. There shouldn't be anything dangerous around, so it's probably fine that she's on her own, but it also shouldn't be this hard to track someone down. This is why he prefers secluded environments.

"Well, if you know who I'm talking about, that makes it easier. If you see her, tell her Robin's looking for her, okay?" That's not going to help her find him, either, but it seems easier for a squirrel to find a person than a person to find a squirrel.

    [personal profile] teratias 2017-09-15 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Have you tried using the telepath network?" he asked immediately. He didn't like the faint sense of annoyance, especially from what he suspected Robin might be. That boded ill, and Waver couldn't exactly get up and run.

Or he could, but that would probably mean getting some lizard kids hurt too.

    "That'd probably be easier."
    guerrilla: (cynical; adjective.)

    [personal profile] guerrilla 2017-09-16 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
    "Sure, but..."

Before Robin can argue, a pair of especially rambunctious Palai begin to climb his cloak, and he's knocked off-balance by the extra weight. He stumbles, but manages to right himself, watching the lizard children warily. It won't do to have his most important Noble Phantasm broken by overly excited reptiles.

"...I'm not saying you have to do my work for me, I just figured it wouldn't be too much trouble to tell her I'm looking for her if you happened to see her." Robin gives his cloak a tentative shake, which only seems to excite the Palai children even more. "But if you can't be assed to do it, just say so." Were it not for the kids on his cloak he'd be off to look for her right now, actually, but he'd rather resolve this without any trouble than just run off with some very bulky attachments.

It's too bad he's out of chocolate.

Waver watches the kids move too, ready to try and wrangle them if they become too rowdy or if it looks like they're going to have some dumb injury happen. When the worry passes, he just huffs.

"Stop putting words into my mouth, I didn't say I wouldn't. I was just letting you know if it's a real problem, there's a more effective way to get her that message."

"It's more like she has a habit of getting herself into trouble. Nothing here looks especially dangerous, but since we're sort of a team it's a pain if something stupid happens and I have to get involved." He likes Hakuno well enough, but Robin's priorities are firmly in place, even if it's not exactly ideal for a Servant. The less inconvenienced he is, the better.

One of the Palai has reached Robin's shoulders and settles into his hood like it's a hammock. There isn't enough room for two Palai, but the second seems to be a little less adept at climbing, so it's probably fine for now...maybe.

Robin deftly sidesteps a third Palai trying to join its friends on his cloak, like a half-hearted matador trying to fight the least dangerous bull in the world.

"Honestly, worry more on the hub when we get there. There's wild boars that have charged the beach huts before."

Waver tries not to laugh as one of the Palai declares Robin's hood a hammock, but he fails and a little choked out laugh escapes. Waver himself is, thankfully, not very interesting to climb at all, and he goes back to smoke shapes in order to provide a distraction.
