[WORLD ONE | AIMINTAS REBUILDING]

Who: Coven members and the Palai
Where: Rebuilding the Aimintas marketplace.
When: Day 59
Open/Closed: Open to All
OOC Note: For Prompt A -- the egg claiming is closed to those who selected eggs from this thread! Anyone can use the prompt creatively, but please don't give your character an egg if they aren't listed in the above thread.

  • The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
  • There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!

Many efforts have been made to help rebuild Aimintas, which has become a little bit water-logged and bloodied after the confrontation a few days previously. The Palai are fully capable of rebuilding their own city on their own, but with coven members around and willing to help, hopefully the repairs that need to be done can be completed much more quickly.

The marketplace is quite expansive, which is both good and bad when it comes to coven involvement. While the areas that need to be repaired are expansive, this creates the opportunity for most coven members to help rebuild in some way or another. With everyone taking responsibility for a task, the work can get done much more quickly.

Aside from the repairs, many Palai are still in mourning. Because this incident happened during their mating season, many Palai are essentially shut out of reproduction or are going to potentially lay eggs a month from now without one of their previously supposed parents. The demeanor around the marketplace is glum for this reason, though the steadfast species is certainly not giving up.

A ▢ Because some Palai families were killed in their entirety, the hatchery is being cleaned out. There is a big discussion in the marketplace with those responsible for taking care of eggs making sure they have the future Palai youth properly sorted. Those eggs that are orphaned have mostly been handed out to Palai family units, though there are some left over. Because the Palai trust the coven members as stronger and more capable to protect their eggs than they are right now, these eggs are being handed out to them instead of doubling up already child-bearing families. Are you willing to take an egg?

B ▢ Half of the battle when it comes to rebuilding the marketplace will be the large quantities of standing water in certain stalls and enclosed spaces. Some of the Uvi's ocean masses burst or were used as a sort of liquid smoke grenade for defensive measures -- some water was absorbed into the dirt in outdoor eating areas, but a lot of it is stuck in businesses, suites and other rooms. The Palai have buckets, but they sure could use a hand getting this stuff out of here.

C ▢ From slamming large sharks into the front of stone store fronts to stabbing down doors without barriers, the Uvi certainly did a number on Aimintas. Stone fixtures are certainly more difficult to repair,
though the Palai have concocted a cement paste that they're using to help fill in seams. The biggest issue to deal with here is that water-logged and damaged wood needs to be hauled away or destroyed (safely!). At the same time, new wood needs to be installed to doors and stalls, and tables need to be rebuilt in order to return the majority of shops to well-working order.

D ▢ Working hard isn't the only task at hand, either. There are Palai in restaurants and eateries that ARE mostly functional, hard at work preparing canteens and food sacks that need to be passed out to workers expending so much energy for their city. This also means the return of their energy drink (see TDM #2, Prompt E). This can cause hallucinations, power malfunctions and extreme giddiness and euphoria, for those who didn't experience this drink the last time it made the rounds.

E ▢ Another "low-level" task focuses on keeping the younger Palai entertained and out from under the feet of those who are working hard to repair the city. The hatchery is being emptied for repairs, so one of the more untouched open-air areas of the marketplace is now a makeshift daycare. There are obviously Palai helping to attend to the children, but there are a lot of them -- some are more docile and easy to entertain, others scuttle out of the enclosure and try to help the coven with their chores. This may or may not go well...have you made a new little friend?

F ▢ More detail-oriented coven members can help with the management side of things. These tasks can include restocking and carting a round food stuffs (produce, shrimp, other food goods), getting rid of damaged goods (some of these are only slightly damaged, so maybe you can get some discounted, barely working merchandise), and redecorating storefronts. This work is great for those who aren't as good at physical labor and still want to help.

G ▢ Most of the Palai who were put up against the Uvi found themselves fatally wounded, though there were some lucky lizards out there. One of the other open-air areas of the marketplace is essentially a medic tent, which serves as both a makeshift hospital for coven members and Palai alike who are still nursing Uvi wounds, as well as a first aid station for any rebuilding-related injuries. Healers would definitely be appreciated!

        H ▢ Wildcard!

When I wasn't deployed, I was usually reviewing data. So I think I get what you mean.

[He enjoyed that kind of detail work, always has. Surely, he always will.

And now there's so much more in a far greater scope than he'd ever had access to before]

They're alright, but it's pretty strange how much they like them. [Since they're on such an easy subject] Do you have a favorite food?
    talim: (pic#11701464)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-09-09 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
    See? Something else in common!

    ... Well, sort of.

[ jude pauses at the change in topic, but it doesn't take long for him to answer. ]

My favorite food? Tofu miso soup. What about yours?

[ a dreamy sigh. leia's dad makes it better than anyone. well, being a cook, he makes pretty much anything better than anyone. ]

    [personal profile] deem 2017-09-09 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
    [Just a little alike, maybe.

It's nice, he thinks, that Jude could understand. Though he thinks it was more of a hobby where Jude's pursuits are leveraged as a profession. His data analysis benefited other units, sure, but...]

I don't think I've heard of that before. [But his favorite food...?] I'm not sure if I've got a favorite, exactly, but I like sweet things. Or grilling fish with 2B, but that's mostly just because it's nice to relax once in a while.

[And one thing 2B would actually indulge in, when there was time, was fishing]

    [personal profile] talim 2017-09-09 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sweet things? That surprises me, actually. I didn't take you for the type to indulge, I guess.

[ if that's a rude thing to say, he doesn't mean for it to be. ]

Do you and 2B like going fishing? I've never been. I can't imagine getting it right, either.
    deem: (ponder)

    [personal profile] deem 2017-09-09 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Ah, that's cause for a snort. 9S not being the type to indulge, huh? Maybe this says something about how little he's really told him about himself, which... Goes to Jude's point, doesn't it?]

I'm the guy who likes dinner and a bath after a mission, even though I don't need either one.

[For no better reason than that it feels good]

But we sure do, it's relaxing. We always fished with our pods, though...
    talim: do not take (pic#10683700)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-09-09 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
    [ that's... surprisingly adorable? ]

    Your pods... Right.

[ a frown tugs at his lips. he wonders whether or not it's too sore a subject to ask about. he doesn't know exactly what they were for, though. ]

What else did you use your pods for? If you don't mind me asking, that is. Curiosity getting the better of me again.
    deem: (box)

[Should see him sitting around doing kicky-feet, Jude. This is futuristic, advanced weaponry right here]

They're our Tactical Support Units, so they have a lot of functions. In combat they can fire on enemies, or use a variety of programs to assist in defeating hostiles, or destroy targets outright. And we can talk with them I guess... they convey information available to them or facilitate communications, things like that.

[He really hopes that Pod 153 wasn't damaged. Last he's aware of, he and A2 were, but...]

In addition to that they monitor our vital signs, assess information, and can facilitate and carry out repairs and maintenance. Without a pod, other units can't perform that maintenance on internal systems like Scanner models do, or hack into enemies.
    talim: (9.)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-09-10 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
    Oh, wow. That's... incredible.

[ jude's lips are parted in awe, expression colored with interest. they sound amazing. jude would love to witness technology like that and decipher how, exactly, it works, the tools behind it. pods sound like something everyone should have. he wonders if they're mass produced? get him one. ]

Well, they sound self-sufficient enough, right? That means I'm sure both your pods are doing alright. In all likelihood, they're probably searching for you as we speak.
    deem: (ponder)

    [personal profile] deem 2017-09-11 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're capable of independent action and logical thought.

[More so, perhaps, than some of them had ever appreciated. He knows without that sense of judgment that proves invaluable in the field, though he hadn't always listened to it. There was a time when he preferred ignoring reasoned suggestions, even if he knew they were just that.

His pod had been there until the end, no matter how illogical or irrational his decisions became]

They're pretty efficient, so I wonder... [He looks down at the books arrayed in front of him, puffing out a sigh] Maybe they're being kept.
    talim: (10.)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-09-12 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
    Kept?

    Like... hostage?

[ he almost asks who would want two pods as hostages, and then remembers that not everyone is as nice as he is. he doesn't know how rare or costly they might be. ]
    deem: (box)

    [personal profile] deem 2017-09-12 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
From what I hear, something's taken from us when we're...recruited, if you want to call it that.

[What criteria that something needs to meet, h doesn't know. And there's also the fact that he's supposed to have gotten some kind of magic in exchange, but thus far he doesn't think such a modification is possible]

I don't seem to be missing anything else.
    talim: (pic#9332478)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-09-12 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
    Ah. Right. That...

[ jude starts feeling around for his pendant for the second time during this conversation, like it will magically reappear the more he searches. it's undoubtedly nowhere near as valuable as something like a pod, but it's important to him regardless. ]
    deem: (turn)

    [personal profile] deem 2017-09-12 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Otherwise, I don't imagine they'd have so much trouble locating us.

[But he's noticed that gesture and its repetition]

    ...Are you alright though?
    talim: (pic#9332476)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-09-12 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
    Huh?

[ why wouldn't he be— oh. he's probably making his mild anxiety too obvious. ]

Sorry. It's just... a habit. I carried around what was stolen with me, so I'm still used to feeling it there when I reach around for it.
    deem: (ponder)

    [personal profile] deem 2017-09-12 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's sort of like that with Pod 153. Pretty much the same as missing an arm.

[And he should know from experience.

Although 9S has struggled with optimism in the recent past, he thinks he can muster up some in this case]

    We'll get them back.

    [Somehow]
    talim: (14.)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-09-12 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. You can count on it.

    [ somehow. ]
