A (the rain in Spain falls mainly on the...)

[you know that the strange seawater rainstorm at the festival two days ago flooded out the marketplace and part of the city. the question is, how far did that rain fall over the hard, sandy soil that surrounds the city of Aimintas? what kind of erosion happened? perhaps you have a hankering to go out and see the effect that the water had on the crags outside the city, or the humid plains covered with native plants. there are four directions to explore, north, south, east, and west: which way will you go and how will you get there? fliers and adventurers, take notice!]

B (how does your garden grow?)

[Geir, at least, is more worried about the plants in the farmed area. he doesn't know much about plants, but he has a vague idea that sowing fields with salt is something one does to one's enemies. since these plants are irrigated with freshwater, more salt rain is not likely to go well for them.

right now he's glaring at a small plot he's dug out out with his talons. he's seeded some of the bark from the strange shrubby filtration plant into it, trying to check if that will help the soil deal with the salt water, but he's run into a problem: there are no plants there yet.]

--can you plant seeds? My claws aren't small enough.

C (after the storm)

[the festival aside, there was a lot of damage to the Palai city -- like, a lot. so many bloody fights happened in the streets, so many powers got deployed, so many giant fish landed on buildings... the damage is considerable, and now that they've buried their dead and celebrated their victories, the Palai who aren't making weapons are out and about repairing their city instead. any characters who show an inclination to help are promptly given piles of bricks and mortar and wooden planks, though they might want to ask each other or the Palai for help and direction to repair things...]

D (rain rain go away)

[there are a lot of different reasons to go swimming in the strange overhead ocean right now. maybe you're trying to find out why the rain fell from it a couple of days ago, or maybe you're checking to see what the frozen Uvi fortress looks like. maybe you even want to go visit the strange island above the waves again -- who knows what there is to find?

or maybe you just want to go wrestle sharks in there. go wrestle those sharks, no one's judging.]

E (free fall)

I've never made anything. Just dug that cave out further.

[Geir seems mildly poleaxed at the idea. he probably won't be able to actually do it, he reasons, but if he could...]

Of course not...we don't know how it'll work for either of us, at all, if he's not from home.

We still don't know how a lot of things work.

[he's shyly excited about that today, rather than frustrated. he's seen a lot of opportunities to learn new things lately, and the idea of creating something... well, that sticks in his mind.]

Mm. So even if it doesn't pan out, we'll still have learned something.

[he does hope it will work, though -- for Geir more than himself, to preserve that warm feeling]

Next time I see him, I'll ask him.

[Geir rubs his eye ridge against Vern's shoulder again, unbearably affectionate for a moment]

You're always making me think of new things, Vern.

It's been nice to talk to other people, but I want to hang out with you now. Do you want to go flying?

Good, because I feel like I haven't taken a good flight in forever.

[drums on his nose gently]

[Geir vents a long, satisfied sigh and carefully arranges himself VERY FLAT, wings outstretched, to help Vern climb on as best he can. puddledragon]

[laughs at him outright, if briefly, before scrambling up, finding his usual seat between the ridges on Geir's long neck]

I'm settled!

[unpuddles himself, coiling up and up into a crouched standing position, then leaps into the humid air with a delighted yell. his takeoff is a storm of powerful wingbeats, shedding a few salty water droplets and stirring the leaves of the crop plants below him as he goes.]

[whoops as they take off as well, the alien and complicated world falling away under them; everything feels much simpler, up in the air]

[Geir spends a while in the air today, making long lazy loops around the crags of Aimintas; it's a good workout, though he does occasionally start to try to rise more and then remember he can't fly further into the sky without running into... the inexplicable wall of water...]

[looks up at some point, when they're almost close up enough to it for Geir to splash into the upside-down waves]

...so strange...

It's really weird. I've hardly been in there... I wonder what it looks like.

[Geir makes a few more circles near the waves and then backwings thoughtfully onto one of the rocky crags, clinging to it and peering up into the water above them from there.]

How can the sea survive without a bottom?

...magic...?

[it sounds a little weak, but what other answer is there to give here, really]

I want to see if there's something past it.

[he's still gazing up, eyes alight with interest.]

We could go, if you wanted. I'd like to see, too...

Can we?! Are you sure?

[looks back at Vern in sudden speculation]

How will we get you enough air?

[looks vaguely towards the city

looks at the ocean

looks at Geir's mouth

looks at the ocean again]

Um...

[...peers at Vern's mouth too, since that seems to be what we're doing now]

What are you thinking.

[it's a nice one but not great for underwater transport of other living beings]
