A (the rain in Spain falls mainly on the...)

[you know that the strange seawater rainstorm at the festival two days ago flooded out the marketplace and part of the city. the question is, how far did that rain fall over the hard, sandy soil that surrounds the city of Aimintas? what kind of erosion happened? perhaps you have a hankering to go out and see the effect that the water had on the crags outside the city, or the humid plains covered with native plants. there are four directions to explore, north, south, east, and west: which way will you go and how will you get there? fliers and adventurers, take notice!]

B (how does your garden grow?)

[Geir, at least, is more worried about the plants in the farmed area. he doesn't know much about plants, but he has a vague idea that sowing fields with salt is something one does to one's enemies. since these plants are irrigated with freshwater, more salt rain is not likely to go well for them.

right now he's glaring at a small plot he's dug out out with his talons. he's seeded some of the bark from the strange shrubby filtration plant into it, trying to check if that will help the soil deal with the salt water, but he's run into a problem: there are no plants there yet.]

--can you plant seeds? My claws aren't small enough.

C (after the storm)

[the festival aside, there was a lot of damage to the Palai city -- like, a lot. so many bloody fights happened in the streets, so many powers got deployed, so many giant fish landed on buildings... the damage is considerable, and now that they've buried their dead and celebrated their victories, the Palai who aren't making weapons are out and about repairing their city instead. any characters who show an inclination to help are promptly given piles of bricks and mortar and wooden planks, though they might want to ask each other or the Palai for help and direction to repair things...]

D (rain rain go away)

[there are a lot of different reasons to go swimming in the strange overhead ocean right now. maybe you're trying to find out why the rain fell from it a couple of days ago, or maybe you're checking to see what the frozen Uvi fortress looks like. maybe you even want to go visit the strange island above the waves again -- who knows what there is to find?

or maybe you just want to go wrestle sharks in there. go wrestle those sharks, no one's judging.]

E (free fall)

All right!

[buoyant; it's another nice break in their schedule, and this will give them a chance to explore the island. Geir keeps his head above the water and folds his wings close to eel slowly towards the shore, looking for all the world like a sea serpent about to waylay some ships.]

[pulls his outer tunic over his head and then drapes out over the flat part of Geir's head like a cat as he swims in, humming a little]

[Geir crawls up onto the shore and looks around at the defunct electronics scattered there -- a few sweeps of his tail is enough to create a considerable clear space for them to camp on later. he climbs over and around the boats, ducking his head down to snuffle at them.]

It's so strange up here... look at all this stuff, Vern.

Boats?

[surveys the space around them and makes a metaphorical headscratching noise, puzzled]

This is a lot of stuff and no people. Watch out, I'm coming down--

[Geir makes a squeaky noise of acknowledgement and dips his head down to the ground to let Vern get down more easily.]

There's still some gear on the boats. Can you use it? It doesn't look as junked as the rest of this weird trash.

[SLIDES DOWN HIS NOSE LIKE IT IS A SLIDE and then wobbles over to the boats to inspect them]

Huh...maybe? Some of the lighter stuff...

[Geir deposits Vern's left-behind shirt on the cleared sand to mark their camping spot for later and then returns to the larger fishing boat Vern is investigating, putting his nose as close as possible to the deck to try and follow him. peer!!!!!]

Any fishing lines?

[puts a hand up on his nose to brace himself as he straightens up, then holds up some of the smaller lures and things for inspection]

Yeah -- I see a couple of handlines, too. I know how to use those, though we won't catch anything huge with them.

[muttered]

Get some of the lures, too. They... look good.

[tilts his head a little]

Look...good...?

Like you could bite them--

[there was that incident with Thor fishing him up, okay. DON'T PRETEND YOU WOULDN'T BITE A DELICIOUS LURE IF IT WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE.]

Doesn't just looking at them make you want to bite them? Especially when they're moving! C'mon!

I mean, I wouldn't, but they're not really designed to appeal to humans...is this a cat toy sort of situation? Should I put them on a string to tease you with?

[leans on his snout, twirling one of the lures in his hand]

[Geir's eyes snap to follow it but he's going to fIRMLY RESIST BITING VERN'S HAND OFF BY ACCIDENT. wails softly]

The purple one is the fluffiest, so it's the best. You're teasing.

[...tickles his nose with the lure a little]

Yes.

[makes a move as if to snap at it, just the tiniest little clicky noise of teeth inside his closed mouth, then pulls back in embarrassment]

Veeeeern.

I'll stop! I'll stop.

[at least until he gets a string. puts it back in the boat and skritches Geir's jaw in apology]

Hmph!

[leans into the petting. look, there's just something very appealing about brightly colored moving things that you can put in your mouth.

grumpily:]

What about all the other junk on the sand? I saw Palai with things that looked like that, but they were alive and flashy, not dead.

[hums thoughtfully, still skritching]

We could dig a bit. A lot of it looks broken, but surely not all...?

You'd have to tell me the difference. I can't use any of it at all!

[the idea of digging around and collecting the treasures they find appeals to him enormously, though, as Vern probably guessed; even if he can't use and doesn't understand the stuff they're hoarding, they're still mAKING A PILE OF IT]

[pats his nose a final time for now; it's been a while since he went treasure hunting for the fun of it and not towards a singular grim purpose]

C'mon, then.

[Geir bumbles after Vern like a puppy, letting him take the lead in investigating the beaches, but perfectly willing to dig or sort through things when he's prompted to do so; all the plastic and metal stuff is sort of undifferentiated to him, but if Vern can find any pieces that work or indicate what they do, he becomes increasingly interested and enthusiastic. it's a couple of pleasant, absorbing hours of work, at the least.
