[OPENING] magical training log
Who: Brie, whichever newbies want to show up.

Where: The beach.
When: Day 4
Open/Closed: OTA
[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.
As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.
She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.
But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

[ orihime's mission is fairly straightforward: create three different types of food and getting other newbies to eat them. she did get okuyasu to eat her boar meat dish, and he seemed to have liked it! so, she's very confident that she can get this done!
plus, this is a chance to get her to experiment with other food styles as well, dishes that she'd wanted to make but never had the time to.
little does she realize that there's one limitation to her magic: the food dishes will always taste absolutely disgusting.
but...how can you turn down free food? how can you turn down this smiling face in front of you when orihime spots you nearby? she looks so delighted to see you, after all! ]
Hello there! You must be hungry. Would you like to try some of the food I've made?
[ you have a choice from the following:
a) buttered shrimp covered in raspberry sauce with a side of pasta topped with brussel sprouts
b) lemon drizzled french toast, which looks good at first, until you realize they're stuffed with broccoli bits covered in mustard
c) a cheeseburger that has slices of melon, onion, and covered in chocolate sauce ]
TWO: more limitations
[ so. now you've either a) unfortunately tried one of orihime's dishes, or b) spared yourself and your life and decided not to try one of her weird combination-foods. in either case, you run into orihime actually trying her own food...smiling as she swallows it...and then coughing up a storm. ]
Ack!
[ it's terrible! absolutely terrible! she'd tried that cheeseburger before and it tasted nothing like this! ]
Maybe...I should have imagined it with more salt? Or replaced the chocolate sauce with raspberry jam instead?
[ that's not the problem orihime. anyway...after she's done mumbling to herself, she sits down with her barely-eaten burger, and closes her eyes. ] Hmm...maybe I just need each part separately...
[ she's trying to start from scratch to see if that'll help the burger taste better. it doesn't work. all she gets is a replica of the same exact dish she'd imagined earlier. she opens her eyes in surprise and her brow furrows a bit. ]
Eh? Did I...think too hard about the burger?
ONE
did you know that chiaki has no idea how to talk to girls
did you know that he]
Y-Yes!!
[had absolutely no fucking chance the second he walked up to her]
no subject
Oh! I'm glad you're so enthusiastic about it, ehehe; here, take your pick!
[ they are all equally disgusting. there is no way out of this. ]
no subject
but regardless he's looking through... all of them.... with mild curiosity before he
honestly just settles on the burger]
Mm....? It smells.... sweet?
[he didn't realize they were weird until he picked it up oh dear god here goes]
no subject
[ she's watching so eagerly! she's so excited for someone to taste test this for her; will it be good? it should be!
(no, it won't be) ]

[Of course Haru had to be walking by at just the right time! Hungry? Well, she hadn't eaten lunch quite yet. She feels like she should go for the safest option. Was there a safe option?]
Ah, sure. I'll try something. Let's see...
[She's eyeing the three dishes with concentration and almost determination before she makes her choice.]
I'll have the shrimp.
no subject
[ she holds out the plate of shrimp for haru; you know, in theory, this dish wouldn't be so bad? it's the power itself that makes it taste bad...not like haru would realize it yet, but y'know. still. ]
Here's your shrimp dish! Let me know how it is, okay?
no subject
Interesting...
[But Haru can't bring herself to be rude about Orihime's food.]
no subject
Interesting? In what way, Haru-chan?
[ she gives her a grin though, earnest and pure. ]
You can be honest! That way I know how to make it better next time!

...My heart. [ it's said in deadpan, a bit melodramatic, as he looks up from the food to the girl. ]
no subject
[ and then the revelation that perhaps this boy is having heart trouble dawns on her??
oh no??? ]
Ah-!! Are you feeling alright?!
no subject
[ he gives her a look that's very, very serious. ]

Um, do you need some assistance brainstorming?
no subject
[ the burger looks...interesting. sort of like if you try it, you might die??? ]
So far, I've only been able to create the whole burger, not the individual parts. But if you want to help me come up with new dishes, then I wouldn't mind that either!
no subject
Hmm, well, um. Oh, I know. I've always wanted to try popcorn. Do you know a popcorn dish?

I do not think I've ever heard of anyone thinking too hard about a burger, but it's possible. [There's a grin.] That wasn't supposed to happen?
no subject
Mm, I'm trying to recreate each individual part of the burger! Just now, I was thinking of the patty. But it seemed to have just made the entire thing instead...
no subject
What about if you start thinking about the bun first? Working from the outside in since that part can be split in half? A patty needs a place to sit, doesn't it?

[ she seems super excited as she says this! ]
Ah, you can have both! I actually need someone to try my french toast as part of my mission, if that's okay with you?
no subject
[ sighs ]
Well, alright. I'll try them both.
[ so he goes for the shrimp first, and - promptly thinks about spitting it out.
now. now. he's got a pretty tough stomach, all things considered, but that was when he had a stand. after all, his mouth can withstand the stench of abbacchio's piss.
it's unfortunate that in this particular instance he doesn't have his stand. first he was defeated by the crabs. now this cheerful girl. but he also didn't believe in needlessly terrorizing her for her lack of skill, so he's forced to swallow it down.
after that, he tells her, as gentle as he can, ]
That was terrible.
If you don't mind, I'm not taking the french toast. You can keep it.

Looking at it doesn't make him hungrier -- he's unsure about some of those combinations, but it's not like he understands different cuisines all that well...?! -- but it doesn't make him less hungry, either. He examines her offerings attentively.]
... Are you sure it's okay? [he thought they'd have to live on boar and poisonous crab and fridge roulette] Can I try all three?
[Because his luck is terrible, he's going to go down thrice as hard. #yolo]
no subject
Of course it's okay! Please help yourself to all of them!
[ she's so glad! someone wants to taste test all of these wonderful dishes!
if only she had her shun shun rikka with her, though. she's going to need to resurrect lenka from the dead. ]
no subject
... On the bright side, because he's planning on taste testing three dishes at once, he'll have to moderate his helpings. He also assumes Orihime is going to be feeding more people. Lenka serves himself a few spoonfuls or small pieces of each dish, taking care not to mix them -- some of them already look messy enough, he may be a fool but he's a judicious fool.]
Okay. I guess I'll start... [he says a quiet thanks over the not-quite-meal and then digs into the shrimp since that one looks the least dubious] ...
[...]
[He's still chewing, even if his nose wrinkled a little. This is where his lack of expression kind of comes in handy. It almost makes him miss rations... but it must be nutritious. It's still food, after all.]
Uh... What's in this?
[It looked like shrimp but that did not taste quite like shrimp. Whatsoever.]
