[WORLD ONE] SPEED DATING EXTRAVAGANZA

Who: Participating coven members
Where: The Palai marketplace
When: Day 49
Open/Closed: OTA

[ Any and all who are in the marketplace will find that there is suddenly a mysterious barrier around the marketplace (that may be eerily familiar to some) -- specifically one large portion of the marketplace with a large number of tables and chairs, perhaps purposefully set out for nefarious reasons.

A few Palai are ushering coven members to chairs, and everything seems about normal. As normal as the Palai can be when they're putting on a show anyway. It's not until a sizable portion of the coven members are seated (and also supplied with breadsticks and small shrimp), that things get a bit more bizarre.

Thanks to the power of the Eltos, a small band of energy keeps coven members stuck to the chair (magic can interfere, of course), but that's not the end of it. On each table, next to those delicious smelling breadsticks and shrimp, is a bowl of scraps of papers. Every five minutes, a strip of paper will pop out from the bowl.

If you ask the Palai, they'll be inclined to explain speed dating to you. Asking questions, getting to know a person, then being shimmied off to the next potential mate -- this is made possible by Elto magic yet again, through flying chairs that transport their holder to a new table at standard intervals.

The Palai are extremely invested in this exercise? Will you let them down? ]

[ OOC: In the spirit of speed dating, each character will have a top level. All who want to respond to this top level can with questions from this post, but the threads have to end at 10 comments from each character. After this last tag, the characters can be assumed to have been whisked to a different potential match. You're free to have characters make up their own questions, interact with Palai serving food, etc. ]

No. No, these were brownies with fish in them.

[ he winces. the memory is far too visceral. curiously, akira reaches for the bowl to pluck one of the pieces of paper and unroll it for the world to see. ]

What’s your biggest pet peeve?
imsorey: (Traveling at the speed of light)

[wincing at the thought of it and half shaking his head. even he wouldn't put fish in brownies.]

At the moment, I'm going to have to say "putting fish in brownies". It sounds like a waste of food. But that's subject to change if I can actually think of a pet peeve. I don't know if I have any.

[for a second he contemplates asking the same question in return, but grabs a different piece of paper from the bowl instead.]

What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?

[ there's actually a short chortle at the mention of the fish brownies once more. ]

[ he hesitates whether he should answer that next one truthfully. hm. hm! okay, this guy is cool so he won't make it too hard on him. ]

... Ah. Back home I used to just walk around the city. I still do that, here. It's harder to find good books or videos games here.

[ he shrugs and reaches for another question as well. ]

Have you ever dated before?
imsorey: (This adventure is more than I)

[personal profile] imsorey 2017-08-29 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Nope!

[he doesn't even have to pause to think about that one, and doesn't bother to reach for another question from the bowl.]

What kind of books do you like? And, uh, video games, was it? I'll bet there's some around. Exploring the city has been interesting so I can understand the interest, but I don't think we'll be here indefinitely. And there isn't a city to walk around in on the floating island.

Adventure books, mostly.

[ but he nods some more. ]

There's a mansion back on the island, and probably more stuff on the island. So maybe there's enough stuff to explore there, too.

[ a hum. ]

Do you know what a video game is?
imsorey: (moral of the back story could be)

[there's a small shake of his head]

I have a general idea of what they are; a few people explained the concept to me. I haven't seen one yet, and I haven't played one, so I'm not sure how the real thing compares to what I'm imagining it is.

Do you like exploring forests as much as you like walking around cities?

It's different. I can't really say I like one more than the other.

[ a thoughtful tap to his chin as he cants his head to the side. ]

The forest is a lot quieter and is better for thinking... The city isn't like that. But a lot of things become background noise after awhile.

[ ah-- he's rambling. he shrugs and reaches towards the bowl!! ]

.... Oh. [ UHM????? he puts the paper down. the slip reads Are you a virgin?. there is no way, jokingly or not, he's asking this. ]
imsorey: (I can't even)

[personal profile] imsorey 2017-08-31 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[curious about the paper, he leans across the table to get a better look at what it says, mouth quirking in dry amusement when he does actually read it.]

That's a little much for a first meeting, and I don't think it would be that interesting to talk about. Next question?
