[ Any and all who are in the marketplace will find that there is suddenly a mysterious barrier around the marketplace (that may be eerily familiar to some) -- specifically one large portion of the marketplace with a large number of tables and chairs, perhaps purposefully set out for nefarious reasons.

A few Palai are ushering coven members to chairs, and everything seems about normal. As normal as the Palai can be when they're putting on a show anyway. It's not until a sizable portion of the coven members are seated (and also supplied with breadsticks and small shrimp), that things get a bit more bizarre.

Thanks to the power of the Eltos, a small band of energy keeps coven members stuck to the chair (magic can interfere, of course), but that's not the end of it. On each table, next to those delicious smelling breadsticks and shrimp, is a bowl of scraps of papers. Every five minutes, a strip of paper will pop out from the bowl.

If you ask the Palai, they'll be inclined to explain speed dating to you. Asking questions, getting to know a person, then being shimmied off to the next potential mate -- this is made possible by Elto magic yet again, through flying chairs that transport their holder to a new table at standard intervals.

The Palai are extremely invested in this exercise? Will you let them down? ]

[ OOC: In the spirit of speed dating, each character will have a top level. All who want to respond to this top level can with questions from this post, but the threads have to end at 10 comments from each character. After this last tag, the characters can be assumed to have been whisked to a different potential match. You're free to have characters make up their own questions, interact with Palai serving food, etc. ]

I wasn't planning on trying to do better, but if you're asking then I can't say no to a challenge.

[he leans back in his chair for a second, hand to his chin as he thinks. and then he leans forward at takes both of Jude's hands in his and very seriously looks him in the eyes]

There may be a barrier surrounding us, but I'm grateful that there isn't one between us. Seeing your vibrant face is like staring into the sun, so beautiful and bright that I would never want to look away.

[this is his best serious face. is he joking, is he serious, do you want to find out]

[ jude stares right back at him with wide eyes, unable to tear his gaze away even if he wanted to — and he wants to. he really wants to. he's so red he may or may not be on the verge of passing out. ]

I-I...

[ he swallows around the lump in his throat. ]

I...

[ vaguely realizes his palms are sweating. and sorey is still holding them. why. ]

[ closes his mouth again. opens it. closes it. ]

[the lack of professing love in return means he either missed something or that romance novels are a bad source of information for matter of love. or maybe speed-dating just works differently.

he lets go of Jude's hands.]

No good? Maybe I need to practice too.

[ jude coughs into his hand weakly. he's been shot in the heart. ]

You win. You definitely win. That was hands down the most romantic situation I have ever been in and it lasted all of ten seconds. The Palai will be thrilled.

You should have said that! Sincerity is just as romantic as poetic words.

[ jude can't help but laugh along with him, although his is more of a very nervous chuckle. however, it quickly turns into something more good-natured. ]

Is it? Well, then...

The sincere truth is that you've swept me off my feet, Sorey. Head over heels. If only this barrier weren't here... We could run away together and pursue this mutual dream of ours.

[ is he joking? is he serious? do you want to find out? ]

[ ... and then he collapses into giggles. looks like lightening the mood worked after all. ]

[Sorey contains his laughter long enough to bop Jude on the head with a breadstick.]

Don't try to turn the tables after you told me I won! I'll think you're actually trying to ask me out on a date.

[ jude ducks (unsuccessfully) and laughs again, batting sorey's hand away. to just about anyone else, it might look like they're genuinely hitting it off. ]

That's not going to happen, but just because you won doesn't mean I can't make an attempt to dethrone the champion.

[he makes another unsuccessful attempt to swat Jude with the breadstick before realizing he's unable to get past his defenses and sets it aside]

If you're attempting to do better than me, it's got to be something that'll really sweep me off my feet. Or at least catch me by surprise. I'll give you points for effort though.
