[ Any and all who are in the marketplace will find that there is suddenly a mysterious barrier around the marketplace (that may be eerily familiar to some) -- specifically one large portion of the marketplace with a large number of tables and chairs, perhaps purposefully set out for nefarious reasons.

A few Palai are ushering coven members to chairs, and everything seems about normal. As normal as the Palai can be when they're putting on a show anyway. It's not until a sizable portion of the coven members are seated (and also supplied with breadsticks and small shrimp), that things get a bit more bizarre.

Thanks to the power of the Eltos, a small band of energy keeps coven members stuck to the chair (magic can interfere, of course), but that's not the end of it. On each table, next to those delicious smelling breadsticks and shrimp, is a bowl of scraps of papers. Every five minutes, a strip of paper will pop out from the bowl.

If you ask the Palai, they'll be inclined to explain speed dating to you. Asking questions, getting to know a person, then being shimmied off to the next potential mate -- this is made possible by Elto magic yet again, through flying chairs that transport their holder to a new table at standard intervals.

The Palai are extremely invested in this exercise? Will you let them down? ]

[ OOC: In the spirit of speed dating, each character will have a top level. All who want to respond to this top level can with questions from this post, but the threads have to end at 10 comments from each character. After this last tag, the characters can be assumed to have been whisked to a different potential match. You're free to have characters make up their own questions, interact with Palai serving food, etc. ]

The sudden green hand taking his coveted shrimp, plus the question make him actually look up. Him. He -- probably can't run as fast as she can, and this is a stupid question, but he'll bite. )

I don't know. It depends on how fast you can run.

I can run pretty fast. The fastest zombie in Sequin Land. But I guess there will be a time to test that one later.

[She'll go back to the questions because that was, indeed, a stupid question. But, hey, she got a response. That was a start.]

Coffee, absolutely. Tea is watery and tastes like dirt more often than not.

( Actually, something to drink would go great with this dry bread. He motions to one of the observant Palai, hoping they don't think his bringing one over means this is somehow going well in the context of dating. Feel free to ask for something to drink if you want, Rotty. )

What about you? ( Coffee or tea, hea means. )

Oh coffee, for sure. I'm going nowhere until my sixth cuppa Joe. [She nods and kicks her feet a bit. In fact, if the Palai are going to get them something she'll be sure to acknowledge that.]

( He'll have whatever they bring him because he's hungry. Coffee he won't say no to, unless they don't bring milk and sugar along with it. )

Not really...? Not that I'm opposed to it. ( Most of the time people are cooking for him, he means. )

You don't have to play along with the questions, you know. Unless you actually buy into this kind of thing.

No. ( Said very astutely. ) But it feels weird to want to know such...pedantic things about people.

None of these questions seem insightful or probing, anyway. Nothing worth talking about "mating" over.

...this is why the questions are pedantic. Because if they were too revealing, then it doesn't really initiate conversation.

Hmm, maybe, but it is the fastest way. Sometimes the answer isn't in what they say, but how they answer the question.

( This information would seem pretty run of the mill to most, but seeing someone who swings both ways isn't entirely that common back home. The casual admittance is something that piques his interest, though he won't press it.

You don't look like you're dead. ( Well, she IS green but dead people aren't green where he's from. If she is dead he will scream and flip this table. )

I'm not green and have staples in my arm and legs as a fashion statement. That's an undead skin tone, and those are keeping my limbs from falling off.

[She's seeing the reaction and is basking in every moment of it. Give her a few more seconds and she's liable to do something crazy like pop off a limb or something.]

I am a zombie. I have been dead well before coming here, and if you didn't have this conversation you would have never known that.

( ....Well, there is truth to that. In that she didn't try to eat him like zombies from back home. In a more complicated mind this may bring about the true sentience of the undead or something, but he's a simple sort.

Also, it's not like he's 100% convinced anyway. It's probably a good thing his chair is trying to magic him away, but he's still insistent on getting a nudge in. )

I have personal, first-hand knowledge of undead creatures and I can't think of one of them that can talk or perform fine motor skills. If this is some sort of ploy, it should probably be better thought out next time.

( He might need something crazy, like popping a limb off. )

[She's getting that feeling too. So she's got to make this quick.]

[The seat begins to do its magic thing. As she's being lifted off her seat (and she all but screams "wheee~~") she'll resist that temptation and instead take the moment to pop her head off.]

[She'll then raised her severed head to Emil and shout at him.]

( WELL THAT'S CERTAINLY SOMETHING DIFFERENT. There's no table flipping or spontaneous combustion, but seeing someone's head come apart from their body and then call him a......snack cake; what the fuck is that? It's certainly not appetizing or polite.

He would make some sort of retort but Emil's sure that if he opens his mouth he'll make a very high-pitched, terrified noise or throw up, one or the other. Until next time, actually!real zombie girl...until next time. )
