[ Any and all who are in the marketplace will find that there is suddenly a mysterious barrier around the marketplace (that may be eerily familiar to some) -- specifically one large portion of the marketplace with a large number of tables and chairs, perhaps purposefully set out for nefarious reasons.

A few Palai are ushering coven members to chairs, and everything seems about normal. As normal as the Palai can be when they're putting on a show anyway. It's not until a sizable portion of the coven members are seated (and also supplied with breadsticks and small shrimp), that things get a bit more bizarre.

Thanks to the power of the Eltos, a small band of energy keeps coven members stuck to the chair (magic can interfere, of course), but that's not the end of it. On each table, next to those delicious smelling breadsticks and shrimp, is a bowl of scraps of papers. Every five minutes, a strip of paper will pop out from the bowl.

If you ask the Palai, they'll be inclined to explain speed dating to you. Asking questions, getting to know a person, then being shimmied off to the next potential mate -- this is made possible by Elto magic yet again, through flying chairs that transport their holder to a new table at standard intervals.

The Palai are extremely invested in this exercise? Will you let them down? ]

[ OOC: In the spirit of speed dating, each character will have a top level. All who want to respond to this top level can with questions from this post, but the threads have to end at 10 comments from each character. After this last tag, the characters can be assumed to have been whisked to a different potential match. You're free to have characters make up their own questions, interact with Palai serving food, etc. ]

[Dirk is helping so much. After a pause, he reaches into the bowl. Looks at the question. Throws the question away.

He looks at Sora dead on.]

How does your goddamned sword actually work?

[ UH ... THAT'S ODDLY SPECIFIC FOR A RANDOM DATING QUESTION. And Sora tries to see if he can see the paper from where he's sitting to curiously check if it said that, but unfortunately it isn't close enough where Dirk threw it. So. ]

You mean my Keyblade? What do you mean?

[ He's going to need to specify because there's a lot of ways he could interpret that question. ]

[KEYBLADE! IT EVEN KNOWS IT ISN'T A SWORD!]

It's basically a giant key. How does it actually function as a combat weapon? It makes sense as a bludgeoning tool but it feels like you use it in the style of a sword.

[ Sora is the wrong person to ask to explain things. ]

Huh ... I never really thought about that. Is the way I use it really that weird? That's just how I've always fought with it.

[ HE JUST ... FIGHTS. And the Keyblade ... exists ... and does things. ]

[Dirk is realizing this. It is a dawning horror.]

[ Well since Sora can't explain it, and apparently it's weird, he gives a bit of a confused face before looking like he's got an idea and quietly moving his hand over the table to summon his Keyblade right in front of him. ]

Well, I guess you could take a look at it if you want.

[Finally. Someone who summons their weapon out of nowhere, like a normal person.

Dirk reaches for it, curious. He wants to Learn about the keyblade.]

Are all blades like this where you're from?

[ He's cool with Dirk taking or touching it, considering he doesn't give him any bad vibes and Sora knows he can just summon it back to his hand, no big deal.

And he shakes his head. ] Nah, it's kinda special. But a couple of others here have one too.

[ Riku, Roxas, and ... Xion, who still concerns him. ]

That invites the question of how exactly it's special.

[And why multiple people have this weirdass sword? He tries swinging it. It's Still Weird.]

[ And with that, he summons his Keyblade back to his hand — not because he dislikes or distrusts Dirk, but as a sort of demonstration of its specialness. ]

'Cause you gotta be chosen by it.

[ Sora doesn't know an overly large amount about the Keyblade, but he does know a little. Sort of. ]

[Okay, his sylladex can't do that. That's cool.]

Why does it choose people?

[Sora must now explain Kingdom Hearts.]

[ Wow good luck. He may be the main character but he doesn't know the half of what's been going on.

But he moves his free hand to point to his chest. ]

I think it's got to do with your heart.

[ Not like Sora's fully aware of the actual reasons he has his. ]

What's the 'heart' mean in this context.

And he just ... looks down and then back up, continuing to point to his chest. ]

Okay, so it's a weird magic sword that chooses people based on the essence of who they are. That genuinely makes more sense than I expected. Why's it a key?

[ Aside from fighting the Heartless with it, he does a whole lot of locking and unlocking various things. So it makes sense that it's a key? Look, he didn't design it, okay. ]
