[ Any and all who are in the marketplace will find that there is suddenly a mysterious barrier around the marketplace (that may be eerily familiar to some) -- specifically one large portion of the marketplace with a large number of tables and chairs, perhaps purposefully set out for nefarious reasons.

A few Palai are ushering coven members to chairs, and everything seems about normal. As normal as the Palai can be when they're putting on a show anyway. It's not until a sizable portion of the coven members are seated (and also supplied with breadsticks and small shrimp), that things get a bit more bizarre.

Thanks to the power of the Eltos, a small band of energy keeps coven members stuck to the chair (magic can interfere, of course), but that's not the end of it. On each table, next to those delicious smelling breadsticks and shrimp, is a bowl of scraps of papers. Every five minutes, a strip of paper will pop out from the bowl.

If you ask the Palai, they'll be inclined to explain speed dating to you. Asking questions, getting to know a person, then being shimmied off to the next potential mate -- this is made possible by Elto magic yet again, through flying chairs that transport their holder to a new table at standard intervals.

The Palai are extremely invested in this exercise? Will you let them down? ]

[ OOC: In the spirit of speed dating, each character will have a top level. All who want to respond to this top level can with questions from this post, but the threads have to end at 10 comments from each character. After this last tag, the characters can be assumed to have been whisked to a different potential match. You're free to have characters make up their own questions, interact with Palai serving food, etc. ]

[All things considered, he's not entirely sure that's actually a better topic but oh well, at least it's not romance. Mostly. He can cut out those parts.]

Oh, goodness, well... I'm under the impression my world is a bit of an oddball compared to most? It's... we were, um, part of a... a game, actually? That would eventually create a universe, uh, assuming we won anyhoo. [Which they. Did not, but that's fine. It's fine.] But before all that I lived on an island with monsters?

[it ends up sounding a lot more interesting than romance, that's for sure. but uh, it also ends up a little more confusing than romance. flynn tilts his head curiously.]

How could a game create a universe?

[because that has to be one of the crazier things flynn's heard since arriving.]

[Honestly, it's confusing for Jake too.] Umm... I don't know actually. Dirk might know! He probably does. We were supposed to join forces with another failed session to win but that sort of went badly, so. But it's fine! A couple of us survived and they're going to fix it somehow.

[that... that sounds very very complicated. and deadly? some of them surviving means some also didn't. flynn's brows furrow lightly.]

How is this game played?

[is it just a very intense game of chess or something else?]

It's um... like a video game? [Which, since he at least realises not everyone here knows about modern inventions, he continues:] The idea was something like... There's this place, Skaia, and I think that's the place the universe is created somehow and there's two kingdoms warring over it! Derse and Prospit. Derse, I think, is the bad one? And you have to defeat them. Along the way, though, you hone your skills and whatnot to get strong enough to do that. And there's other stuff going on, I guess, depending on your role? Our session was queer, so we didn't wind up doing any of that. But that's the idea!

And by defeating the bad one, you end up saving Skaia and a new universe will be created?

[which still sounds unbelievable to say. the place where new universes are created, wow.]

Yeppers! That's my understanding. I know there were other steps but we didn't go through them. Um, we were supposed to wait for players from another session to arrive to help us.

It's, well, unique even among the sorts of worlds here, so I don't blame you for thinking it's a headscratcher. It's weird to me too.
