[ Any and all who are in the marketplace will find that there is suddenly a mysterious barrier around the marketplace (that may be eerily familiar to some) -- specifically one large portion of the marketplace with a large number of tables and chairs, perhaps purposefully set out for nefarious reasons.

A few Palai are ushering coven members to chairs, and everything seems about normal. As normal as the Palai can be when they're putting on a show anyway. It's not until a sizable portion of the coven members are seated (and also supplied with breadsticks and small shrimp), that things get a bit more bizarre.

Thanks to the power of the Eltos, a small band of energy keeps coven members stuck to the chair (magic can interfere, of course), but that's not the end of it. On each table, next to those delicious smelling breadsticks and shrimp, is a bowl of scraps of papers. Every five minutes, a strip of paper will pop out from the bowl.

If you ask the Palai, they'll be inclined to explain speed dating to you. Asking questions, getting to know a person, then being shimmied off to the next potential mate -- this is made possible by Elto magic yet again, through flying chairs that transport their holder to a new table at standard intervals.

The Palai are extremely invested in this exercise? Will you let them down? ]

[ OOC: In the spirit of speed dating, each character will have a top level. All who want to respond to this top level can with questions from this post, but the threads have to end at 10 comments from each character. After this last tag, the characters can be assumed to have been whisked to a different potential match. You're free to have characters make up their own questions, interact with Palai serving food, etc. ]

[Well, okay, this is the weirdest thing he's had thrown at him yet. Yeah, this is it.

He hasn't exactly made any effort to get away, so he's really got not idea just how stuck he is, but. Eh.

[At that, Jake visibly relaxes.] Oh thank god. Yes, I'm on board with this plan. I, uh, appreciate their concern but... really, I am better off flying solo for a bit.

[sluggard]

[He laughs.] I dunno if it's really concern or just for giggles...

[A shrug.] I'm not asking you any weird questions though, don't worry.

Oh, good, because these are frankly terrible questions. [And some are way too forward to ask strangers.] But, um, I've been having fun listening to people talk about their homes, if you want a topic while we sit here?

[sluggard]

My home? [Well, that's not something he's heard a lot here.] Oh, you know, coups, dead kings, dead dragons... It's fine.

[Cheerfully,] You gonna tell me about yours?

[Well that sounds gloomy but he doesn't seem too down about it?? Jake feels like he should sum up his the same way.]

Oh, um, just.. the world ending, everyone getting fucked over, battles going poorly... Uh, apparently it will be fine?

[sluggard]

[He tries not to--really, honest!--but he bursts out laughing.]

Aww, kid, things sound worse there than at home. The world wasn't ending there.

[Sort... of...]

Must've been pretty impressive battles if it's all gonna be fine.

I think that might be the best idea I've heard all day.

[She's letting her shoulders down. Having a small meal sounded so much better.]

The Palai are truly trying their hardest to get some of us together.

[sluggard]

[He props his chin on his hand, glancing at all the other tables.] Can't imagine why they are. You really think any of them are gonna find "mates" or whatever?

[He snorts.] Nah, just the food's good.

Maybe they didn't want us to feel left out? They're all...getting together, and we must look strange to them not getting together?

The food is the best part of this day though.

Ehhh, maybe. They're kinda weird like that, huh? Probably think we'll cry if we're all by our lonesomes.

But, gods, I think I'd cry if I didn't have this food. Can you imagine having to be stuck here without it?

They seem to be a very codependent species, I think. They rely a lot on one another. There is a time to depend on someone and a time to be independent. I think so anyways.

[She's going to bite into a breadstick, chewing before she answers.]

I think we would all be more irritated than we are now, and hungry.

[sluggard]

[Following her lead, he grabs one of the breadsticks himself, though he only turns it over in his hand before speaking.]

For sure. Maybe we'd have even gotten out of these chairs without it. [It'd have been worth a try, right??]

...Though, crap, that'd probably just make them cry, too. You just can't win.

It seems like they're going to get what they want, for now. Which is all of us speed dating.

[She's taking slow bites of hers.]

What is your name? I'm Haru, by the way.

[He sighs, frowning down at his breadstick.] Riiight. I guess they did. Where the hell did they even get that idea from? Never even heard of speed dating before.

Name's Python though. Good to meet you, I guess.

Under the circumstances, I guess it is also nice to meet you Python-kun.

[She looks over to their bowl of questions.]

... favorite animal?

[She swears to god if he says python......]

[sluggard]

Uhhhh.

[Yeah, he's gotten a few jokes about his name recently, maybe he should avoid them this time.] Dunno, I'm not much of an animal guy.

Maybe cats? They sleep a lot, right? Cause that sounds like the good life.

But you probably have a favorite animal, don't you?

I would say that cats are a favorite of mine too.

[She could wax poetic about Morgana again. Because geez she really misses him.]

[A pause. Oh. What he's interested in? That's... huh.]

In general? Uh... archery? Living like a cat? People don't usually ask me this kinda' thing.

[She laughs, though awkwardly.] I understand, this definitely isn't normal.

Yeah? It's not so uncommon where I'm from, hunters gotta do something. [A pause.] ...Not that I'm a hunter.

[He shrugs.] I was sort of wondering if this whole thing's normal for some of the rest of you though. But I guess no one's asking you about your interests all the time?
