[WORLD ONE | POST-UVI CELEBRATION]

Who: Coven members and Palai
Where: In and around the Aimintas marketplace
When: Day 39
Open/Closed: Open to All

After an appropriate amount of time for mourning, the Palai have shifted into a more positive mood -- they're a very resilient species, though there is a bit of a muted tone to their celebration. The whole event is a little hodge-podge, mostly because they aren't used to having to celebrate with the coven members added to the guest list.

The Palai have gathered together all of their people and have invited the coven members to a small, intimate gathering -- the purpose of the event is to thank them for their service in fighting the Uvi, and the success of freezing the Uvi in their home. While no one knows how long the Uvi will stay gone, any amount of time without the Uvi being a concern is fine by them.

The event takes place in the very center of the marketplace, with the Palai interacting on the fringes of the party throughout the rest of the large building. The coven members have time to spend by themselves, but there's room for moving around on their own and also spending time with the Palai if they so choose.

A ▢ One of the more noticeable editions to the food the Palai have provided is a large pile of sweet, sugar dusted pastries. You may notice that something about them seems...odd, to say the least. It looks as if the pastries are vibrating slightly, but they smell divine.

If you're so inclined to ask what the deal is, these pastries are magically infused by Eltos, which somehow gives them a sweeter flavor and enhances the sensation of tastebuds. The Palai sometimes eat these before meals in order to better the flavor of their entire spread -- though adding this energized magic to an already magical being means magic powers may be a little off kilter. Don't be surprised if suddenly your abilities go a little crazy.

B ▢ The Palai aren't participating the party for two big reasons. One, the purpose is to celebrate the victory of coven members. The other reason, however, is one that may be more interesting to outsiders. While previously the Palai were peaceful people, happy to exist submitting to the Uvi, the coven's show of strength and valor has inspired them to be more aggressive in their approaches.

Grown Palai can be seen working on makeshift weapons, but the idea of smaller tools like slingshots have already been constructed and almost perfected. The Palai youth have discovered these tools and are playing with them gleefully, though occasionally hitting each other -- and potentially you -- with energized, paralyzing rocks fueled with Elto energy. Watch out or you might get zapped!

C ▢ Other Palai youth aren't as fortunate to be so distracted and happy. While fewer Palai died during this attack, the casualty number wasn't zero. Most Palai children still have at least one family member to care for them, but they're still a little disconnected from their people by means of grief. Some are milling about with the coven members, trying to eat or pester them for attention. If you're good with kids this may be more your speed, but those bad with children can find this irritating. Some Palai youth are more muted, however, content to just sit and listen to stories or eavesdrop on conversations.

D ▢ For some people, rain isn't that big an issue -- but it certainly puts a damper (get it?) on a party. The Palai seem a bit confused by the sudden shower that comes in heavy as the evening dies down. The Palai have never experienced rain before, using irrigation systems and existing ground water as their means of hydration (both for themselves and for plants). Because the rain is coming from the ocean, the drops are large and salty, and the marketplace quickly begins to flood.

The Palai move the party indoors for the most part, but that doesn't mean you or the food aren't already soaked. It's much warming underneath the roofs in the marketplace, but that doesn't provide much relief since the ocean rain is warm and humid.

E ▢ Wildcard! How will your character handle this violent and volatile situation.

a.

[This particular wallflower is slouching over in the corner . . . well, in some corner-like area well away from the action, perhaps surreptitiously swiping a few pastries. She's not looking at you at first. In fact, she seems positively allergic to eye contact. But if you're looking at her, or around her, you might just notice that the people at the table behind her seem to be eating awfully quickly. Or that a plant next to her is growing right out of its pot, spreading creeping tendrils out to the ground below. Or . . . you fill in the blank.

This curious behavior, when she notices it, makes her stand up straight at last, her eyes darting this way and that to take in the full scale of the . . . speedening. Then she spots you, and her eyes widen as if she's been caught at something.]

Uh.

[Maybe don't come too close, or you could find yourself hopped up on speed too.]

c.

[Or maybe you spot her later in the night, trying to disentangle herself from two Palai children with an increasingly alarmed look on her face. Look closer and you'll see that one--the one tugging on her skirt--seems to be moving in slow motion, while the other is chattering happily at her at a rate that doesn't seem physically possible, even for an excited kid.

She looks between one and the other, her eyes wide as dinner plates. Help, her whole posture seems to be saying.]

d.

[Someone figured out her power just in time, it seems--above and around Tara-Fay, the droplets of falling water slow and freeze, although if you examine one up close you'll realize that it's just moving really, really slowly. There's a slow smile spreading across her face as she looks around at the coven members and Palai ducking across the rain.

She walks down one of the marketplace streets, and the freezing-rain effect comes along with her, droplets suspended in mid-air in a dome-shaped area around her. She reaches out to touch one, her expression one of wonder.]

Little ones, come here.

[Caster taps her staff on the ground beside her, insisting the children come nearer.]

Come, and I will tell you a story with my magic.

[personal profile] wingfic 2017-08-16 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[The chattering Palai rushes over there, her speed flattening out closer to 'normal excited child' the closer she gets to Caster. The slow one follows after, her movements overly deliberate but speeding up as well.

Tara-Fay blinks and glances over.]

Oh . . . um, thanks? I think?

[She looks like she wants to take a step closer--it's kind of awkward talking from this distance--but seems to think better of it.]

[personal profile] storyseller 2017-08-17 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. [She starts putting together the story. As she does, she reaches out to Tara-Fay telepathically, not missing a beat in her tale.]

Your magic has gone out of control, it seems. From the pastry?

[personal profile] wingfic 2017-08-17 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh . . .

[She sounds embarrassed.]

Is that what they did? Maybe, then.

[personal profile] storyseller 2017-08-20 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So it seems. I have seen others similarly afflicted.

[She is now telling the kids about a ferocious dragon. It's an exciting adventure! Very distracting, making it that much easier to talk to Tara-Fay.]

Are you yet unaccustomed to your power?
wingfic: (shrike)

[personal profile] wingfic 2017-08-22 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, man, dragon--she's distracted by that for a moment, before she shakes herself and responds to Caster.]

. . . I guess. [Grudgingly, as though admitting her own shortcomings is difficult for her.] I, um, don't have magic like this back home.

[personal profile] storyseller 2017-08-22 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Dragons are exciting so this is fair? Although now there is befriending of the dragon, apparently. This is an off story.]

Nor do I have magic like the one I have been granted. I have been hesitant to learn its use.
wingfic: (sparrow)

[personal profile] wingfic 2017-08-22 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[I mean, befriending dragons makes perfect sense to Tara-Fay . . . or rather it's the 'befriending' part that's weirder to her, not the 'dragon' part.]

Yeah? [She seems a little surprised, and continues.] At home, mages cast spells. They don't have powers that just turn on like this.

[It wouldn't be odd for Nike to find herself looking around every once in a while. She rather enjoyed people-watching with some humanoid lizard action, even if she can't overhear any of their conversations. At some point, she'll notice the wallflower red-head discreetly reaching for the pastries, and with almost nothing to do she will continue to watch her, noticing interesting details happening to her and her surroundings. Was she moving faster than normal? Slower? Or was it just her surroundings giving that illusion?

Whatever the case, when she attempts to head in her general direction for some small talk, she rose from her seat without warning which will have Nike stopping dead in her tracks. The other girl's expression will have her attention for the most part.]

Hey, are you okay?

[There was clear concern for the other girl over whatever it is happening to her.]
wingfic: (canada goose)

[personal profile] wingfic 2017-08-20 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm fine!

[That's more of an automatic response than anything else, as she puts her hand down automatically down on the table behind her, and a candle on the table begins to sputter and burn low. She gives it an alarmed look.]

Uh, that's, I mean--I'll be fine, I just have to figure out how to--slow down!

[Just yelling does not seem to have an effect on whatever this is, however.]
drizzle: (21)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-08-22 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Her initial response won't do much in shooing her away, not when her earlier expression and surrounding proved otherwise. Nike will simply remain silent, observing her before making any final decisions. Fortunately, the young girl decided to be honest, giving Nike a chance to make a final decision early.]

Maybe it'll help to calm down a bit? Have you tried taking deep breathes and mediating yet?

[It was clear the other girl was feeling overwhelm over the situation. Helping her calm down may be a good place to start in helping her stablize.]
wingfic: (indian runner duck)

[personal profile] wingfic 2017-08-22 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tara-Fay looks at the chaos going on around her.]

How?

[Deep breaths. Meditating. A little like the mindset she has to be in for scrying. Deep breaths. In, out. Slowly.

Everything slows. The vine stops climbing, the candle's sputtering slides to a halt, the flame seemingly frozen in mid-air. The people behind her are moving as if placed in deep freeze. Tara-Fay opens her eyes.]

Uhh.
drizzle: (why do you question it)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-08-23 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Watching her surroundings begin to slow down was an interesting turn of events, Nike couldn't help watch it all unfold in astonishment. It was curious. Really curious.]

...well, at least it isn't trying to race against time....?

[An attempt at some light humor. A terrible one, but it was on regardless.]

Okay. Now, maybe, you should sit down and try not to think about it too much. Try to put your knowledge of your powers in the back of your mind.

[Give her a second to think about a good conversation starter.]

It's good to meet other coven members. You didn't have any trouble during the Uvi invasion, right?

[Talking about previous current events may be a good way to go around it.]
wingfic: (shrike)

[personal profile] wingfic 2017-08-29 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have to talk down to me.

[With a flicker of annoyance, but it seems more perfunctory than anything else. She rolls her shoulders back and, okay, fine, tries not to think about it for the moment.]

I was fine. I can take care of myself.

[Said with some measure of stubborness. Is the area around her slowly normalizing, or is that just your imagination?]
drizzle: (tumblr_inline_n8ufwuX76D1r4blpq)

sorry for late reply, computer broke :(

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-09-04 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
....but I'm not...? I don't think...

[She was only trying to help her out, but thought it would be a good idea to not remind her about the situation she was currently in due to her powers. All Nike can do is remain calm and just follow the flow of the conversation.

It was just too bad she couldn't keep some of her temper in check. She found the other girl's tone a tad bit annoying.]

Right, right. I totally believe you. I bet you can take care of yourself just fine, but there's nothing wrong in asking for a little bit of help every once in a while.

[From one stubborn girl to another, Nike knows all about being independent and strong-willed. She has the scars to prove it too. But, even so, she does understand that way of thinking can get heavy at times too. Which comes her next question, all said in a actual curious tone.]

Unless there's a crime against that in your world?
wingfic: (falcon)

np! sorry i'm so slow orz

[personal profile] wingfic 2017-09-09 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Unfortunately, Tara-Fay doesn't respond that well to what she takes as sarcasm directed at her. She folds her arms across her chest.]

No. There isn't.
