You’re in a room. It’s pretty bright — blindingly so, even. There’s something very stark and very clean about the place, and also the person you’re sitting in front of. You’re sitting? You’re sitting. There’s also a pane of very powerful plexiglass separating you from the uniform-clad person who is now speaking to you.

It’s impossible to transcribe what they say verbatim, but here’s the gist of it:

- You’re being welcomed to a city called Shehui. Depending on who you are, the level of technology may be light years ahead of you or child’s play.
- There’s a very strict policy about magic. While there are measures put in place to prevent magic from happening, this is still something that they reiterate over and over. They don’t want to take chances.
- Crime is also frowned upon. Small infractions will result in credit deductions, while major crimes will get you banned. Antisocial behavior is also looked down upon. You’re locked in the city for your initial eight weeks. You can leave afterwards, but trying to break out of the city or cause social unrest will result in monitoring and a potential ban.
- This city is supposed to be somewhat relaxing. Is it a free pleasure cruise? No. Is it a self-contained society that runs on community and indulgence? Yes.
- You’re being given an allotment of credits in order to stay in the city, which is what the economy there runs on. This goes on for quite some time.
- You’re being moved to a housing location. Despite the slotted speaker in the middle of the plexiglass, the only time you have a chance to ask questions is when a small slit opens in the bottom and a package is slid towards you.
- What’s in the package? There’s a credit card-like apparatus that has apparently taken a picture of you. It contains a place to write your name, an identification number and barcode. It also has a thin strip near the top that has scrolling script floating by. It states “WELCOME TO SHEHUI. YOUR ID WILL UPDATE WITH COMMUNITY NOTICES AND PERSONAL PINGS FOR JOBS AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES RELATED TO YOUR INTEREST.” It’s a lot to take in, but that’s the long and short of it.

Have questions? The person will reiterate a few times that there are information desks around the city. That’s all for now…now you’ll be traveling to your next destination: your new home.

The floor slowly lowers as if you’ve been in an elevator the whole time. It connects to several other glass containers, much like your own, all suddenly clanking together in a chain. After a short wait, the chain begins to move — quickly. Faster, maybe, than you’ve ever gone before. It’s hard to even make out the scenery when you’re zipping past everything so quickly.

Where does this trip lead you? The ground floor of your new apartment building. The plexiglass cases open up and you’re in a hotel lobby. There’s a flashing board on the wall — NEW ARRIVALS, COME HERE.

The apartment building is locked up tight for three hours in order to let new arrivals get their bearings. After that, the ground floor lobby doors open into the city of Shehui. There’s a lot to take in, but let’s cover the biggest bases:

I don't even know if I would be much help there. I wouldn't know where to start.

[She sighs, she already had some ideas. But still. This whole word hopping business sucked. She didn't know what to do with herself.]

I'm from a pretty normal place. A town called Uchiura that's by the seaside. World travelling and being away from home in general isn't something that really ever crossed my mind.

[She frowns a little, unsure of why she told him this.]

[ His face falls a little, too, sort of getting where she's coming from. His own world isn't as peaceful and calm, but he knows what it's like to lose all sense of normalcy -or rather, have it all suddenly taken from him. It reminds him of what his real goal is here, how he promised to himself to do what he can to get these people back to their homes safely, no matter what it takes. It's what a king should do, isn't it? ]

I think you'll go back one day. Whatever they want from us here... this isn't the end. So just stick it out for now.

[ He doesn't know where to start either, struggling to survive himself, and his mind is absent of better words of comfort. However, a small smile tugs at his lips, trying to seem at ease on the outside even though he's fighting on the inside to breathe past the crushing sensation in his chest. ]

We'll all figure it out somehow. I got things I need to do back home, too.

[ As much as he wishes he could share more, he's still wary about giving too much information on himself and trusting others with the truth of his identity. It's still hard to convince himself that who he is doesn't even matter anymore in this place. ]

[Dia turns and looks at Noctis while he speaks. She thinks she needed to hear that. That others were going through similar feelings and similar situations. She wants to see everyone here go back to their own worlds.]

Thank you, I think I needed to hear something like that.

[She sighs, a little embarrassed?]

I will admit that I haven't really had the best outlook on this situation.

[ Rather, he's glad he was at least able to help a little, not used to being the motivational speaker here. That's more Prompto's territory, but he doesn't want her to freak out and think this is the end for all of them. It's hard enough as it is not to lose his own nerve and fall into despair. Having someone from his world helps, but he wouldn't wish this place on any more of his friends or any of hers. ]

Think I saw a for-hire sign or two in the mall. It's a start if hospitals aren't your thing.

[ At least, working would keep her mind off lesser thoughts and keep her busy. No one knows how long they're going to be stuck in Shehui, but considering the world they just came from, he can't say he's that eager to leave. ]

Could try and look for something there.

[ She'd probably get hired in a heartbeat. As for himself, well... ]

I thought of taking myself, my little sister, and our friend to work in a quaint little cafe here. We could turn it into a maid cafe. Maybe we could sing there.

[Maybe, just maybe it would feel like home.]

Maybe I could take up a second job in a clinic learning how to administer basic first aid?

[She glances back at him.]

What will you do?

[ Make poor financial decisions. Live in squalor. No, uh, he should probably get a job, too. It's not like it'd be the first time he's had a part-time -it's just not his favorite way to kill time. ]

It's a start. Bet you'd be good at either of those things.

[ Definitely better than himself really. ]

I was thinking I could probably wait tables ...maybe hit up that coffee shop.

[ Just the ideal place for the Prince of Lucis. ]

I will do my best to serve you good coffee, then. If you decide to visit. Myself and one of my idol group members will be waiting the tables and making the coffee.

Perhaps you could come wait tables with us even?

[Just a suggestion, she feels like she needs to watch after this guy. He seems like he needs it!]

Sure, if you need an extra hand.

[ Hopefully, he won't stick out like a sore thumb among a bunch of high school girls, but it's better than nothing, he supposes. He also hopes he doesn't have to wear anything ridiculous as he'll never live it down. ]

[ It seems like it would be up Prompto's alley anyway -a bunch of girls and his usual lack of charm or grace around them. Good combo. ]
