[HUB ISLAND | NOVEMBER IC INTRO LOG]

Who: The new coven members and old blood
Where: In and around the hub island, especially the mansion
When: Day 122
Open/Closed: Open to All

  • IMPORTANT This IC intro log is different in that all characters can tag it! If your character is new, please put [new] or some variant of it in the subject of your top level. New characters can also tag around to old coven members in order to branch out and get as much CR as possible!
  • All characters are told briefly what their powers are by Genette -- no extemporaneous details. For instance, if your character has the ability to detect lies, they'll be told as such -- no warning about limitations, repercussions or the like. They'll also be given a variant of this letter so they aren't totally ignorant of the situation -- though of course adapt this letter to the current setting and surroundings of the game.

This setting may be familiar to you -- maybe you caught a glimpse of it when you first visited. Maybe this is your first time experiencing this weird world and the panic is setting in. If you're totally lost, a tall human woman with a long scroll of paper will eventually pass by to give you a rundown. She'll also give you a letter, which may give you more questions than answers since the information is a wee out of date. (Maybe someone else can fill in some gaps for you).

What is at first painfully obvious is that you're ill-equipped. Any magic or powers you had previously are suddenly replaced with an empty hole in your being. That's not all that's gone, but perhaps that's what's most pressing.

Another thing you may notice is that there are others just like you, wandering around and just as confused. If you feel so inclined, you may want to ask around and see if anyone else knows what's up.

A ▢ A few newbies may not be so lucky as to wind up somewhere pleasant -- it's currently flooding and storming...up a storm...on the island, which makes spawning outside very trying. Depending on where your character shows up, there's essentially no shelter around, other than some ratty beach huts. If your character's first instinct is trying to find a place to go while outside, you may be in luck -- that is, if someone else is outside, willing to help your character find shelter.

B ▢ For those characters who aren't interested in the shelter of the mansion, they may be stuck in their beach huts. What does this have to do with newbies? It's hard to tell that these beach huts are occupied until actually entering them, which is what your character has decided to do. Oops...hi there, stranger. Mind if I stay for a while?

C ▢ Other characters who happen to have the luck of a true asshole won't be able to find shelter with any such luck. They'll be stuck sheieding themselves from rain under a tree, in the forest or tucking themselves in a mountain cave. It's not the worst place to wind up, but it might not be the safest -- what happens if someone doesn't find them? Telepathy might alert someone to their presence, which can help with the rescue process.

For those that are lucky enough to spawn in the mansion -- or those who eventually find their way there, soaking wet -- there's a lot of fun stuff happening here! It's warm, inviting, smells like food...don't feel awkward. You can join the fun too!

Brie has set up a few party ideas, even though it's not technically a party, in order to keep things light during the storm (which, coincidentally, she isn't very fond of). There's a lot to do, but also everyone has the ability to just chill and hang out in the warm shelter of the mansion for now.

D ▢ First of all, there's a bizarrely set up snack bar in the main foyer. On a lot of boxes, all lined up together, are stacks of crackers, graham crackers, marshmallows and other dried snack foods (use your imagination, honestly). There are also tiny kerosene lamps so characters can heat up food if they wish. Alongside the typical snack foods are also more exotic varieties of snacks that Brie has collected, like dried and salty alien bug pupae and tiny trees in chip bags. There's some odd stuff there, and some of it may upset stomachs.

E ▢ The large foyer of the mansion is literally filled with pillows and blankets. Most of them have been stockpiled and pulled from Qri's big caravan, currently located upstairs, and others have been pulled from every chair and bed in the mansion. Intricate tents and pillow domes have been made that snake in and out from one another -- some are more private than others, with other pillow circles built for communal spaces. It's definitely possible to get lost in this winding pillow fort, but it's also possible to have a nice, private moment lost in one of the winding tunnels.

F ▢ In one of those foretold communal pillow circles, someone (who? you? me? who knows.) has set up a game of spin the bottle. Who knows how your character got roped into this -- or if they are actually willing participants, but this is happening. It's going to happen. What are you doing, oh my god HOW IS THIS BIZARRE ROM-COM SCENARIO GOING TO END...??
F1; Your character is doing the spinning, and another character is choosing to be the victim on the other end of that bottle!
F2; Your character happens to have just had the bottle land on them. Who did it? What mysterious being do they have to smooch now? How do they react?

G ▢ Another game is going on in another communal circle -- Truth or Dare! This game is also set up similarly, in that your character is a hapless victim or willing participant, but they definitely have to give someone the opportunity to confess something or dare them to do something ridiculous. Will they show mercy, or go in for the kill?

H ▢ Slumber party activities aren't for everyone, and there's still a mansion to explore. From various bedrooms to a game room, there are a variety of rooms to wind up exploring and get lost in. Not exciting enough for you? Your character has magic! Maybe they cause a ruckus upstairs that makes someone investigate the loud noise or chaos. Maybe they walk in on someone else doing something with their own magic. What sort of scenario can you cook up?

I ▢ Wildcard! How will your character interact with this new and unusual world?

[relieved that she's listening, he points in the direction of the mansion. it's obscured by the storm, but they can still make out a vague dark blob in that general direction and he takes a few steps that way.]

There's a mansion over there that's sturdy enough to hold all of us until the storm passes. If this is going to last for a while then that's our best option.
hearsthesea: (have to do my best)

    [personal profile] hearsthesea 2017-11-15 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
    I see it.

[Shirley squints out at the rain-hazy figure out in the distance. It feels like a while to go with somebody she doesn't know, but...he did say he could explain some things, and honestly she could really use that. The letter isn't enough, even if she's only skimmed it so far. So she decides to go with him, just for now.]

    Let's go.
    imsorey: (Could wait forever)

    [personal profile] imsorey 2017-11-16 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
[he takes the lead and heads back in the direction of the mansion; he's walked this way enough times in the dark that he doesn't have too much trouble picking the flattest, fastest path there despite the heavy rain. but he makes sure that she can keep up and only stays a step or two ahead of her on the way there.]

You got a letter, right? That kind of explains the basics, but I know it doesn't answer much. Most of us had the same problem with it.
hearsthesea: (what will lead to happiness)

    [personal profile] hearsthesea 2017-11-16 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Shirley follows closely, subdued but not willing to lose him in the storm right now. She listens attentively to Sorey as he talks.]

I did. I haven't read everything yet, but I know I didn't understand it all.
    imsorey: (So what level up)

    [personal profile] imsorey 2017-11-17 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[nodding along; that sounds similar to his experience with the letter, and everyone else's, so it's no surprise. he has to raise his voice a pitch when a gust of wind threatens to drown him out, and he picks up the pace when the mansion's front door can be easily made out.]

Basics are that we've been kidnapped to help with someone else's problem, which might also be a problem for us and our own worlds if it goes on for too long. And yeah, I know it sounds bad. We're trying to get more answers since we don't have much more than what's in the letter. Do you remember which parts you didn't understand? I should be able to explain at least that much.
hearsthesea: (just waiting won't change anything)

    [personal profile] hearsthesea 2017-11-18 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
[So that's the mansion he mentioned. It's...big. She probably ought to have expected that, but doesn't know what to think. She focuses on the question instead.]

What are we supposed to do here? The letter said we need to give some kind of energy to Qri, but it never said how.
    imsorey: (Now our soul divides)

    [personal profile] imsorey 2017-11-20 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Right now we travel to other worlds and are told what magical energy sources to collect. It's only happened once to far, and honestly a lot of us weren't comfortable with it and didn't give anything to her. I'm guessing that we'll be going to more worlds soon and you'll be able to see for yourself what they're expecting.

[because he's a good boy, he holds the door open for her as they step inside of the mansion.]
    hearsthesea: (Stella'll be mad)

    [personal profile] hearsthesea 2017-11-24 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Aww, Sorey is indeed a good boy. Shirley's a little surprised, but thanks him as she goes through. She takes a moment to ogle their surroundings, but there is something still on her mind.]

What is it like, when you have to collect magical energy? It could get us home, but...if so many people didn't want to do it anyway, that doesn't sound good.
imsorey: (No matter how much it hurts)

    [personal profile] imsorey 2017-11-24 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
We're being cautious, that's all. So far we only have a letter and an explanation from someone else telling us what all of this is for, with nothing to back that up. We want a little more information on the situation before doing anything. The last world that we went to, the magical energy she requested that we gather was inside of the bones of the dead. The people who lived there didn't mind us taking them, but...it still didn't feel right, I guess.

[he busies himself with getting them both towels to dry off with as he talks, and gives her a little smile as he hands one over.]

Not everyone feels that way, though. There are people that want to help based on what they've been told, and I think that's okay too. So you should decide what you want to do based on what you think is right.
hearsthesea: (wanted to talk more with you)

    [personal profile] hearsthesea 2017-12-07 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Shirley accepts the towel with a quiet thank you, listening to Sorey talk.]

The bones of the dead. I understand why people didn't want to do it. I...

[She isn't sure she'd want to do it either, frankly. It seems too irreverent, a sort of desecration even if it was for a cause, and when she thinks of Fenimore the thought is revolting. But would she do it to return home and fulfill her duty? She doesn't know, frankly, but she doesn't want to say that.]

I hope it won't be like that every time.
    imsorey: (Let your faith die)

    [personal profile] imsorey 2017-12-10 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[he leans against the closest wall as he starts to dry his hair off, and what he can of his clothes. when he sees the look on her face he can't help but nod emphatically in agreement. although it might not be the last time they have to deal with something unsavory to get the magic Qri is requesting, taking the bones of the dead is something he doesn't want to go through a second time.]

It sounds like how we get magic on every world will be different--Genette and Brie have said that much. So I'm guessing it's not always as...morally questionable. Which might make it easier for people.
hearsthesea: (what will lead to happiness)

    [personal profile] hearsthesea 2017-12-24 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
    I hope so.

[Shirley starts toweling off her hair first, though it's more to avoid dripping all over the place than getting herself dry. Water doesn't really bother her.]

And have they said when the next time will be?
