Hijinks Mingle
Who: Everyone!
Where: Anywhere around the hub!
When: Days 103-105
Open/Closed: Open mingle!
Notes: See this post for details on the moon prompt and this one for the telepathy/dream/spirit prompts!
[A | Flower Gleam and Glow]
[The nearby moon is still passing close to the hub island, meaning the effects are still in play. Perhaps now is the time to stop and smell the large lit up sparkling moonflowers that have bloomed? Or be annoyed by the mosquito-like insects that came with them.
Alternatively, the deer seem to draw some sort of energy from the moon's light. Given their size, at least their sudden aggression and proximity to the base camp isn't the worst thing in the world but a kick would still break a rib or other bone so be careful! Possibly help each other deal with these cute but troublesome fauna.]
[B | Eavesdropping]
[For some reason, the telepathy will suddenly get rather wonky. Characters won't know why it's happening, though of course no doubt there will be ponderings, but it means characters won't be in control of their ability to broadcast — or more specifically, not broadcast — their thoughts. Time to find out secrets of an embarrassing nature. Or maybe something sadder is going on in your character's head.
If this wasn't bad enough, the area around the signet might experience burning or tingling. Just try to keep a lid on your brain for the day and distract yourself from any annoying pain.]
[C | Talking In Your Sleep]
[Or maybe your character just doesn't have the most interesting thoughts. Maybe they're busy thinking about pie instead of their upsetting childhood. That's fair. Pie is great.
But surely sometimes it haunts their dreams. With the telepathy running amuck, it's no wonder dreams and nightmares are leaking through, too. Of course, it doesn't have to be an accident. Feel free to grab a friend and share a fanciful dreamscape together on purpose! But for those nuts that are tougher to crack, accidents can and will happen.]
[D | Who You Gonna Call]
[Last but not least, as Friday rolls around, there seems to be something odd going on with the island. If your character is inclined towards the spiritual or supernatural, they'll no doubt notice the strange heavy thickness hanging around. There are whispers in the air and all of new energy just feels solemn. Might be good to give people a heads up and keep an eye on it.]

[not, technically, an answer]
Don't worry about Squarewave. It looks like you got him fairly in a rap battle, which is exactly what he's designed for.
[Dirk turns the robot back on. Just like that, Squarewave is fully functional again. It says, "YO DAWG! YOU GOT ME GOOD, P-WIZZLE!"
Dirk pauses. His face gives away nothing.
He is trying really hard not to laugh.]
Good as new.

[ and this home of yours is terribly lonely, he wants to say. reminds him a bit of his own.
...there's the mention of that unfortunate name, and percival glances to the side, brows knitting together as he folds his arms and scoffs. ]
Ugh. Don't—don't call me that...!
[ well, he may as well step forward, do something to pass the time. eyes rove around the room, scrutinizing every detail. ]
Do you like it here?
no subject
[You really should not look at those walls. But you do. God, you do. It's a fucking MESS but you do.]
We have a couple options here. [Again, not answering the direct question.] If I know my mind, and since I'm basically paradoxically destined to know it more than I could ever want to then we can just drop the conditional on that, then I know the possibilities that we'll get to enjoy if we decide to leave this apartment. One, we will get to travel through an ocean that never ends, fighting monsters and exploring the ruins of my dead civilization. Two, we will trip our way onto dead planets in a dead session where all the people who ever mattered to me died. Three, we'll slide into whatever your mind subconsciously associates with all my personal bullshit and take a grand tour through your equivalents to dead friends and dead possibilities. Or four, we go all in and end up with some new and innovative combination of the above.
Alternatively, we stay here, with C-man watching our backs [he gestures at Cal] and Squarewave kept from anything liquid. ["YEAH BRO! KEEP THAT NASTY WET SHIT AWAY FROM ME MAN!"]
So those are the choices. An exciting and varied roulette spine through our various traumas, yours and mine, or a chill time with two of the coolest dudes in Paradox Space.
[You know, in your HEART, that this place is a hell too. But at least it's the Hell you have always been trapped in. If you never leave it no matter where you go, why bother exposing yourself to more DESTRUCTION?]
What will it be, P-Wizzle?
no subject
Don't call me that.
[ The TEENAGED BOY won't answer you. It's up to you to make this decision, then.
> ]
We'll voyage into my mind. I want you to leave this place, and there's no point in sulking around in this room.
[ You hate it. You're sure he does, too. ]
I'm ready when you are. If this isn't what you want, tell me right now.
no subject
Snoop blocks the other door out. This is the only egress.
[And out the window he goes!
Obviously, he flies. He has always flown in his dreams and sees no reason to stop now.]
no subject
flew out.
okay.
percival peers out the window before stepping on the sill. he heaves a breath before vaulting. his eyelids flutter shut, and he thinks, thinks of where they'll be going next.]
It's a place your companion can't escape from, but he's accepted it into his heart nonetheless. You fall into a lush forest on the mountainside — there is a castle that can be seen from afar, blockading the view of the sun, but the walk is near impossible.
Fortunately for you, there happens to be a carriage.
> Enter.
> Find another way.
no subject
He tries to fly again. Can he just fly to the castle? He'll carry Percy okay, let him fly.]
no subject
Your companion knows what lies ahead, but he's made the choice for you nonetheless. Into the carriage you go. It's cramped, tight and dimly lit — the wood it's been constructed with is of a rather fine quality, and the seat is plush underneath your rump. Still, something about it is suffocating.
The wheels turn. Your companion looks a little pale.
You can't change the past. [ he says, not quite looking at dirk. something drips onto his face; it's red. ]
But you can close your eyes if you must.
no subject
He does not love this.]
We don't have to do this. I've got an entire ocean full of garbage to imagine.
[His tone is calm, level. Monotony. But the carriage is suffocating. He doesn't think Percival wants to relive this. So why is he?]
no subject
It's better this way.
[ it's better that it's me, and not you he wants to say. ]
I've already accepted this. I can only learn from here on. It's fine.
[ the carriage shakes, suddenly. crimson begins to pool at their feet, a thin laying forming underneath their heels. it's sticky, unbearably wet, and doesn't seem to be coming off. percival visibly swallows and heaves a breath. ]
You should...you should...
[ he's blanking. this doesn't happen often, but is right now, and he hates it. ]
Cover your ears.
[ because if he doesn't, he's about to hear a child wailing very, very loudly despite being nowhere within sight. ]
no subject
So he will bear silent witness.]
no subject
cannons sound off in the distance. people are screaming, scrambling, gathering what they have.
the carriage comes to a sudden stop. when you blink again, the man who once sat next you will become a boy. He is trembling, crying, quaking in his shoes — the confidence that once ruled those features is entirely absent. more notably, his hands, clothes and face are stained with splashes of crimson.
he looks towards you. desperation floods the amber of his eyes. ]
I didn't want...you to s-see anything...
[ he swallows. he is beyond your reach. ]
I d-didn't...want you to hurt...
no subject
[It's calm and confident. Dirk isn't, but his voice is, and so are his arms, wrapping around the bloodstained child. Holding him, like that could offer protection from a moment that has already happened long ago.]
You are, and that... isn't fair.
[Blood. Screams. A closed space. A child.
Sorry.]
no subject
[ the tears begin to flow. the boy shakes in his arms as he gradually brings a hand to dirk's, wrapping his small fingers around his and squeezing as tightly as he can. the blood continues to flood at their feet, and the carriage continues to rock back and forth, its movements intensifying the further they proceed. ]
You...y-you're just like...my older brother...
[ there's the sound of two brusque men chattering, threats spilling from their lips — the jangle of jewelry, fists beating against clothes, a woman softly comforting her children. her voice is strained. ]
I don't want—I don't want anything to happen to you too...! Please stop it! Somebody help us! Why won't you help us...!? Please, please, I don't under—I don't understand..ah...ah....!
[ the carriage comes to a halt. its interior is now void of light, and darkness creeps through the window. ]
Always...be kind to your brothers. [ the boy speaks through his tears. his voice is more leveled than it has been by far. ] Never hold grudges. Always help people who need it. Be kind to your brothers. Never hold grudges. Always help. Be kind to your brothers. Never hold grudges.
[ the darkness fades. sunshine peeks into the carriage. the two of them are positioned in front of a castle. the boy's grip hasn't faltered.
you can leave now. will you? ]
no subject
He has no right to be anyone's family. Paradox Space spit him out to live in isolation, and that's where he should have stayed.]
You held on good. It's okay.
[Sunshine would be preferable to this space. Dirk tries to force open the door. He will carry Percival out if he has to. And if anything else is out there, his sword is just a sylladex's call away. He doesn't have any problems ruining the course of a dream.]
no subject
the door is opened, fortunately. the boy reaches for dirk's hand again. ]
...Thank you for...h-helping me, Mister...
[ his voice is hushed — he can't quite look at him as he says that. what stands before them is a castle, grand, a robust grey that towers over you. ]
Just like Aglovale...you try to protect people too.
[ what the landscape surrounding the castle is like, however, seems to have shifted. is that...
water? it looks like worlds are colliding. ]
