Where: Coven Base Camp

You're not doing anything right now, right? Good. Genette's using some of the resources taken from Aimintas to create a little get together. Even if you do have something going on, she's not averse to using a little force to make the evening magical. In fact, the magic is exactly how she's pulling this off. Genette is offering you to a little get together at the base camp, which may be all it takes for you to follow her. If not? Your hand is tethered (or some other part of you) quickly and you're led to the camp anyway. This is important, darn it! What's so important? A little "party" of sorts. There's an assortment of foods, some of which have been hastily made since some groups have gone harvesting for new resources, and a large water basin that's acting as a punch bowl. The true purpose of this little activity is a 'get to know you' exercise of sorts. Genette's got a glass container of a large quantity of Elto bones that can short-circuit the tethers, but the caveat is that you have to participate in a little, tethered sharing circle. (It's honestly a good idea to know who you're stuck within your little makeshift coven, but Genette is the pushy sort when she sets her mind to something.) The way to be released from your Elto shackles? Tell everyone your name, where you're from, your magic (seemingly left a little ambiguous) and something else about yourself. Discussions are encouraged! The more people know, the better! After you're done sharing with the class, food and drink is yours to have -- or you can just run off, that's fine too. OOC: Characters who would have absolutely nothing to do with this can of course escape, whether fleeing in the first place or using Elto bones of their own to circuit out their tether.
B ▢ Afterwards, their free to stick around the area and mingle. There IS food and also drinks. They may also want to have a more private conversation about something they learned tonight. |

Oh, so that was you who was behind the whole flying to enemy territory and getting everyone in specific areas during battle?
[She remembers a few people have given her a name behind the person responsible, but has never made any attempts to search or contact him.]
Um, you're Jay, right? ...if I remember the name Dirk and Nines gave to me correctly...
no subject
Yes, that's right. On both counts. I believe that gives you the advantage over me, . . . ?
no subject
D-Does it...?
[Give her a few moments to understand his subtle statement there. A small pout may appear for a bit, but she'll begin to speak politely.]
Oh, right! Names. Um, I'm Nike. It's nice to finally meet you, Jay.
[And unfortunately, due to him being a boy...]
You know, you could've just asked for it straight up. Not all of us are the types to understand tact as easily as others can.
no subject
[He looks distinctly amused, but then his expression shifts into something more serious.]
At any rate, it's good that you can fish. Not everyone can, and I have a feeling that fish are going to be one of our main sources of food as long as we're on this island.
no subject
[She can't help notice the way he reacted so calmly towards her and changed the subject as easily. There are few people that have ever acted in the same manner. Most were politicians while others were part of the military.
Either way, his change of topic will catch her attention, a small frown forming as she admits.]
I had a feeling it'd be the case. Not everyone is from the sea or somewhere that relies heavily on hunting to get by. I know very few people who can do just one.
[Her country prides in living a self-sufficient lifestyle without the need to ask for other governments or kingdoms for their help. Their borders have been close for half a century already. With that said, she'll look at Jay with interest.]
There are frogs and snakes too. I haven't studied them yet, but they can be another good source of food too. Turtles and crabs are our safest bet next to the fish and boars.
[But that wasn't their topic of conversation right now.]
What are you thinking we should do? I've thought of wanting to ask everyone about the level of their survival skills. To figure out the amount of those that can't fend for themselves and the amount that can. Maybe even make a sort of system to have those with survival skills teach those interested to learn how to do it. Like a mentorship kinda thing.
[There may be a short pause as Nike can't help realize just how dumb it all sounded.]</small. Something like that anyway.
no subject
I think that would be a good idea. If we get an idea of what everyone needs and can do, we can make a plan to cover the meals of anyone who can't hunt or fish. We might be able to arrange something where they agree to learn those skills in exchange, or help with gardening and gathering.
no subject
[After all, not all times are good moments to be fishing or hunting, there are specific times where animals are more active than others, so everyone will need to follow that schedule and the like. Even so, she figures it was worth a try.]
There's a lot to do. We need people that can not only scavenge, hunt, and fish, but we'll need those willing to do other chores too. Do you think we can set up various polls through telepathy? Figure out who has experience in living fishing, hunting, or scavenging, and who can't? Then from there figure out who can teach after that? It'd be easier to have the leaders take it from there afterwards.
no subject
[He pulls out a small notebook and begins scribbling in it.]
"Can you hunt, fish, scavenge, farm . . . ? Would you be willing to learn those tasks in exchange for food? Would you be willing to teach them to others . . . . "
no subject
[Actually, she can name a few people that are good in different tasks too, but figures he would know them too. Maybe her description about Riku will be enough when it comes to fishing and scavenging.]
I'm pretty good in hunting, fishing, and building simple stuff like umbrellas and woven baskets too. I know how to use salt to preserve meat as well. Actually, the season right now is just right to begin stocking up on fish meat for the winter months, depending if it'll snow or not.
[With that said, Nike will notice the bit of scribbling Jay was doing which will alarm her a bit.]
Hey. Are you saying only those willing to learn a skill will be able to eat? What will happen with those that can't do any of those things and don't wish to learn. Are you going to let them starve?
no subject
Yes, I can think of a few people in the coven with good wilderness survival skills as well. I'd be happy to learn from you all, of course.
[But then she asks her question, and he tilts his head to the side, nonplussed--it seemed only natural to him that you'd have to put some of your own work in to get food. He thinks about it for a bit.]
I think it's fair to ask that everyone who receives food from others also tries to contribute in some way. They don't have to be good at it--an honest effort to help would be enough for me. And there are fairly simple tasks to do, like collecting berries or weeding Haru's garden. [ . . . ] On the other hand, I suppose you're right that we can't let coven members go hungry, even if they decide to be stubborn about helping.
I still think we should present this as an exchange of efforts, to prevent people from taking advantage of the system. If someone refuses, we can still collect food for them--we just won't make it obvious that we're going to do that ahead of time. Does that sound all right to you?
no subject
[She wouldn't be surprise if he was either of those. With the way, he has taken up the leadership mantle, no one without experience in leading would be able to accomplish as much as he has.]
It is fair, but we need to keep in account that not everyone will have the skills, talent, or willingness to go along to do anything they aren't used to doing. Not after the initial shock of getting kidnapped and all. We can't always assume people will be responsible neither. What if we get nobles or high class citizens that have never worked a day in their life? Do you expect them to change their ways over night? I think we need to set the example first than just expecting others to contribute. I rather they decide to help out from their sense of responsibility than pressuring them to.
[It was clear she was speaking from experience in dealing with difficult people. Nobles and high class individuals, especially. She wants to give people the benefit of the doubt and encourage them to help out. A society isn't created through force, but rather through volunteer efforts from everyone in the community.]
But, I agree. We can do that. In the long run, those with the skills to hunt, fish, and scavenge will always have an advantage over those who can't. They can always collect more food while those who can't do any of that will be unable to. Once they realize the importance of learning a skill and contribute to the group, then they'll be more willing to do just that.
no subject
[He listens carefully to everything she has to say, head tilted. When she finishes, there's a slight smile on his face.]
You're an idealist . . . you want people to choose to work of their own free will. Well, you're not wrong that some of the people who are brought here may need time to realize that helping is to their own benefit. We'll certainly provide for them, the same way we would for anyone who needed it, and hopefully in time they'll come to see things the way you do.
no subject
[All said with a light tease in her tone, she couldn't help hide her concern in a way to not offend him if he was proud of his title. It won't be long until her smile changes from a playful grin to a....really weak smile because....after hearing the word "idealist", she was expecting her to berate her for it like a certain precocious fiance would.
It isn't until she realize it wasn't the case because...]
That's actually what I'm expecting to happen! After those with no skills realize the importance of team work can be in gathering materials to help us all survive as group, then they'll want to cooperate. After all, there is very little in ways of comforts here, so they won't get distracted by anything other than their need to survive. Idealistic or not, in this current state of affairs, I think it'll work out. I mean, what else is there to do on this island? If it even is one...
