Where: On the beach, and various other places throughout the hub island
When: Day 80, and the next couple days after
Open/Closed: open log for hub shenanigans!

[This evening, someone has placed an old, rusted-over camp stove on the beach near the coven's row of huts--anyone examining it in detail will see that it's not operational at the moment, but that could potentially be changed, couldn't it? If someone was handy with mechanical things . . . .

Next to it is a crate (which, from the weight of it is empty) and pinned to that crate is a sheet of paper with a map on it, something like a much cruder, black-and-white version of this:



with the following key:

1 - crags. Contain snakes which may be poisonous. Watch out.
2 - ocean, going about one mile out from the coast.
3 - lagoon. Contains thick reeds (could be woven or shaped into tools) and frogs (edibility uncertain).
4 - abandoned campsite.
5 - orchard. Currently, trees are diseased and bare. Plant healer needed.
6 - abandoned house. A family used to live here, from the looks of it. Still contains some useful supplies.

And there should be a 7 north of base camp with the notation "graveyard. Graves unused." but the player forgot and is too lazy to go back and fix it right now. Observant individuals will note that the map looks like a more detailed version of one hanging on the door to a certain coven member's cabin, one that has a note on the bottom: "Have information? Ask for Jay."

Other than that, it's a quiet night on the hub island. We've been here for a couple days; maybe you're getting restless? Want to check out that ocean, or lagoon, or even those crags? Maybe just go door-to-door in the beach huts? Maybe you're sick of shrimp and looking for other things to eat . . . hopefully someone's got a fire going tonight, and thought to kill a boar . . . .

Yep! We've been friends for a while, he seems like a pretty cool guy.

He is. [She agrees with no fuss. Nines is the best!!! This is probably the closest she'll ever come to actually using the word "cool" like this though.] He's told me a little bit about you, now that I think about it.

[decipheringeye]

Oh, really? What did he say about me?

[Probably only good things, right???]

[apatheia]

Something about trying to piece together what the Old World might've been like. [a pause] Although I guess that time period wouldn't be the Old World for you?

[decipheringeye]

That's right! What you guys call the "old world" seems to be a lot like what I think of as the "outside world". 9S and I have been putting our information together to try and figure out what kind of place it is, since neither of us have actually been there.

[apatheia]

What has he told you about so far?

[decipheringeye]

The main one I remember was working together to sort out what Christmas is about.

[apatheia]

Christmas... It's a holiday, right? I've heard that humans have a lot of those.

[decipheringeye]

I thought so too, but after talking with 9S, it kind of sounds less like a holiday and more like a protection racket.

[apatheia]

How so? [Despite being around 9S most of the time, she doesn't often talk to him about things like these. She's just nowhere near as curious.]

[decipheringeye]

From what we were able to piece together, the main idea of Christmas is that you put out various offerings in your home, then a saint breaks into your house to take them away. If you don't leave any offerings for him, he's already broken into your home, so I can't imagine he does anything good.

[apatheia]

... What is it that makes this person a saint then, if all they do is break into your home to take offerings? [Not that she really knows about religion either, but from what she knows of the definition for saint, that's uh. Pretty weird.] They sound more like a troublemaker than a saint.

[decipheringeye]

I guess... maybe there can be evil saints, too? I've only ever met one.

[apatheia]

Were they evil as well?

[decipheringeye]

She's... hmm. [ It's not like they ever really had a conversation, but... ]

I don't know if she's good or evil, it's more like... she's a politician?

[apatheia]

A politician... I can't really say I know what one would be like. [She hardly knows about religion and related topics, so this is even more foreign for her.]

[decipheringeye]

I don't know her that well, but the impression was something like... She's a nice person who will help you out, but if you get on her bad side, something terrible might happen?

[apatheia]

Something terrible... [She folds her arms as she thinks.] It'd be stranger for her not to be different if you got on her bad side, but that sounds extremely ominous. So politicians are that dangerous...

[No 2B, a politician is a regular person......]

[decipheringeye]

[Nah, that's pretty accurate.]

I don't really know much about politicians either, honestly. The human village doesn't really have a leader or anything, where I'm from.

[apatheia]

We're both pretty lacking in information about humans, aren't we?

[She already knew that of course, but there's something kind of funny about it all the same. Most people she's met are so knowledgeable about it, she's not used to someone being as confused by their practices and whatnot as she is.]

[decipheringeye]

I am a human, so I know plenty of stuff about them. It's the society of the human world at large that I don't know much about.

[apatheia]

How did you end up so separated from it? [She's assuming that humans weren't stuck living on the moon for Kosuzu at least.]

[decipheringeye]

[Kosuzu pauses for a second as her line twitches slightly, but it seems to have been nothing. Ah, fishing.]

I'm from a smaller world that's almost completely cut off from the rest of Earth. The only way I have to know what's going on out there is from things like books that fall through the barrier.

[apatheia]

[PAUSES WITH GREAT INTEREST, but alas...]

It sounds very isolated. I'm guessing books don't fall through that often?

[decipheringeye]

More often than you might think, but still not enough to really get it. I guess the barrier mainly blocks living things, so sometimes objects like books or phones will end up in Gensokyo.
