Where: On the beach, and various other places throughout the hub island
When: Day 80, and the next couple days after
Open/Closed: open log for hub shenanigans!

[This evening, someone has placed an old, rusted-over camp stove on the beach near the coven's row of huts--anyone examining it in detail will see that it's not operational at the moment, but that could potentially be changed, couldn't it? If someone was handy with mechanical things . . . .

Next to it is a crate (which, from the weight of it is empty) and pinned to that crate is a sheet of paper with a map on it, something like a much cruder, black-and-white version of this:



with the following key:

1 - crags. Contain snakes which may be poisonous. Watch out.
2 - ocean, going about one mile out from the coast.
3 - lagoon. Contains thick reeds (could be woven or shaped into tools) and frogs (edibility uncertain).
4 - abandoned campsite.
5 - orchard. Currently, trees are diseased and bare. Plant healer needed.
6 - abandoned house. A family used to live here, from the looks of it. Still contains some useful supplies.

And there should be a 7 north of base camp with the notation "graveyard. Graves unused." but the player forgot and is too lazy to go back and fix it right now. Observant individuals will note that the map looks like a more detailed version of one hanging on the door to a certain coven member's cabin, one that has a note on the bottom: "Have information? Ask for Jay."

Other than that, it's a quiet night on the hub island. We've been here for a couple days; maybe you're getting restless? Want to check out that ocean, or lagoon, or even those crags? Maybe just go door-to-door in the beach huts? Maybe you're sick of shrimp and looking for other things to eat . . . hopefully someone's got a fire going tonight, and thought to kill a boar . . . .

[ jude's cheek color a rosy hue, and he raises his hands up in the air in defense — clearly the very reaction akira intended.

akira will quickly learn that jude is all too easy to fluster. ]

[ he says it slowly, thoughtfully, head poised to the side.

I'll never call you Akki again if you keep this between us. He already has too much of an ego.

[ the type of ego you brag about when you really, really hate yourself, but that's... neither here nor there... ]

Going on and on about how many times he's come to my rescue...

[ it's said entirely in deadpan, akira lifting a singular brow.

this hole you're digging yourself, jude, it keeps getting bigger and bigger because of a certain crimeboy. ]

[talim]

[ jude makes a pathetic little noise that sort of sounds like he's dying. ]

— and you're worse than Hibiki.

[ at least hibiki only threatened physical assault. he'd take that over this. ]

[actus]

Like I said, he learned it from me.

[ not all of it, clearly, but akira had been quite the impetus. ]

... I won't tell him. Don't worry.

[talim]

[ that is such a menacing icon ]

... I don't know whether or not to trust you, but I'll say thank you regardless.

[actus]

[ seriously. ]

Up to you. [ the trust thing, he means. he shrugs and then glances at one of the beds. ]

... She's lucky she got to bring her cat here.

[talim]

[ oh, yeah. hibiki had mentioned something about a cat, hadn't he? ]

They're inseparable. I didn't know it was possible for a person to be so close to their pet, but I am allergic, so I've never had a cat. I wouldn't know. Rollo's easy to take care of, though.

Did you keep a cat back home, or... ?

[actus]

I did. He was really sassy.

[ that's a normal thing for a cat owner to say, but he just makes it worse by adding: ]

He yelled at me to go to bed a lot.

[talim]

[ ah... hmm.

well, it got jude to laugh. ]

Aren't cats the ones that just sleep all the time?

[actus]

You'd think. I guess mine was angry when he couldn't use me as a human pillow.

[ akira lets out a tiny huff, fiddling with his bangs. ]

It's weird that he's not here.

[talim]

[ a beat passes. jude can tell he misses him; he stops whatever he was preoccupied with to go sit by akira's side, assuming he's made himself comfortable already. ]

You've been here longer than I have, but you don't really get used to it, do you? That weirdness in relation to every little something missing.

[actus]

It's definitely weird.

[ he nods, slowly. he doesn't mind the close proximity - he's used to having heart to hearts or bouncing ideas off people like this. ]

... I don't think it ever really goes away.

[talim]

[ then it's jude's turn to nod. ]

I don't think so, either.

... Sorry. I didn't mean to, er, change the subject?

Actually, on second thought, I did mean to change the subject, but— yeah.

[ ... ]

Haru told me a little about you. About your... life back at home.

[ there. new subject. ]

[actus]

[ ah!! ]

Hm.

[ another nod, thoughtful, and then - ]

She told me to apologize for asking you for drugs.

[talim]

[ that definitely pulls a surprised laugh out of him. ]

And I told her I didn't actually mind... Did she give you an earful about it?

[actus]

... You've met Haru. Do you think she's ever capable of giving an earful?

[ a soft, fond laugh. really, he's seen her angry only a few times and it was downright terrifying. ]

[talim]

Good point.

[ another short laugh. ]

Haru is a wonderful person, though. I'm so grateful I met someone like her.

[actus]

Mm.

[ akira's smile grows just a tiny bit more. ]

Yeah. She's one of my best friends.

[talim]

I don't need to tell you how lucky you are. I'm sure you know that much better than I do.

And all teasing aside... You really don't seem so bad yourself, Akira. Not at all.

[actus]

I'll take that as a compliment.

[ he wrinkles his nose, glancing back over at jude appraisingly -- ]

Ah.... You pass. You're free to associate with my boyfriend. [ UTTER. DEADPAN. ]

akira got him good. jude stares at him with a totally blank look for a good 20 seconds or so before bursting into a fit of laughter. ]
