[WORLD ONE | SEPTEMBER INTRO LOG]

Who: The new coven members, old blood & Palai people
Where: In and around the city land of Aimintas
When: Day 61
Open/Closed: Open to All

  • The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
  • There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!
  • All characters are told briefly what their powers are by Genette -- no extemporaneous details. For instance, if your character has the ability to detect lies, they'll be told as such -- no warning about limitations, repurcussions or the like. They'll also be given a variant of this letter so they aren't totally ignorant of the situation -- though of course adapt this letter to the current setting and surroundings of the game.

This setting may be familiar to you -- maybe you caught a glimpse of it when you first visited. Maybe this is your first time experiencing this weird world and the panic is setting in. If you're totally lost, a tall human woman with a long scroll of paper will stop by to give you the run down. She'll also give you a letter, which may give you more questions than answers since the information is a wee out of date. (Maybe someone else can fill in some gaps for you).

What you may not know is that this world recently experienced something of a tragedy. You wouldn't be able to guess this based on the festive energy in the air. The main marketplace where you've shown up finished reconstruction last night, and after grief comes joy to the Palai -- those lizard creatures you see wandering around. They're now hosting a festival to celebrate their success and the lives of those both still present and those lost.

It's also a chance for them to host one of those big celebrations like they'd previously seen in human books. However, their resources are limited -- don't blame them if things are a little cut-and-paste!

A ▢ One of the preferred methods for masking grief in the Palai world is playing games. Because the Palai are still on their shrimp kick (the old blood characters are probably sick of them at this point), the shrimp are being used as part of a few festival games:

      • Shrimp Scoop: Live prawns have been placed in a tank of water. Instead of paper scoops, players are handed small scraps of cloth which they may then dive into the six-foot tall tank to try and grab the prawns with -- no hands! And no magic or your prawn will be revoked. For extra incentive, sacks of golden coins have been tied to the prawns. These coins can be exchanged for goods and prizes, though what your character receives for their coin -- no matter how bland or wacky -- is up to your character.
      • Shrimp Shock: Dead shrimp have been placed in a wading pool. Your character and another character enter the pool while Elto shock the shrimp out of the water. With about 20 shrimp in the water, the character with the most shrimps caught out of the air wins an allotment of coins.
      • Whack-a-Shrimp: Eltos have powered six large, stuffed shrimp dolls (made with cloth), that will pop out of cut holes in a large game board. Hit the shrimp as many times as you can in 30 seconds, and your number will amount to the coins you receive.
      • Shrimp Fest: Is your character a big eater? Your character is given a plate of cooked jumbo prawns. If they can eat all 50 jumbo prawns in 30 seconds, they win 100 coins.

B ▢ What good is a festival if there's no face painting? Don't worry, you have more options than shrimp. Palai have an assortment of paints and are making colourful designs on both their kin and coven members -- your request may not look exactly as you want it to since they have bumpy hands and claws that get in the way.

This is all pretty juvenile, but fear not! For the mature sort and adults of Aimintas, there's a more quiet part set up that may cater to your older interests. A softer atmosphere, away from the excitement of things. If you want to wind down from the thrill of being magicked away to a new world, this is probably the best way for it.

C ▢ Fans of alcohol will find that the Palai have broken out their best spirits for themselves and the coven. Some of these aged spirits are decades old and have aged accordingly, giving them a bitter flavor with a nasty bite of alcohol. Others are more recently distilled or imbued with magic for an extra buzz. Accordingly, some drinks can get you inebriated pretty quickly. Some drinks are essentially giddy truth serums. Others may have an effect on magic or telepathy. Pick your poison!

D ▢ The environment in this more secluded area of the marketplace is supposed to be more relaxed, but it's also the best place to sit if you want a front row seat to the fireworks exhibit the remaining Eltos are putting on. Through balls of dye and their electrical powers, they're quickly blowing up the sky with arcs of color that rain down in the form of bright pieces of glitter once the spectacle is over.

They also have a special service they're offering -- the Eltos have a grasp on electrical magic, which means they can draw certain things in the sky with these dye balls. If you have a request for a written message or a drawing of some sort, they'd be happy to comply with your wish!

For the real adult experience, however, you may want to check out the large rolling cart that Palai are pushing around the marketplace, landing it in the fireworks area. This cart is filled with all of the eggs that were a product of their mating season, and this part of Aimintas is the warmest.

E ▢ For newbies and those who missed the egg train, your character can instead be Egg Parent for a Night. The Palai are holding their eggs to warm them for the evening, but (like most parents with new babies) they're certainly trying to show off their creations. Hold them, pass them around -- or maybe even act a fool and fend off a fiercely angry Palai parent.

Finally, the Palai are getting used to the standard familiar faces, so they aren't unaware that there are quite a few new faces in the mix. Based on how familiar your character is, they'll receive a nice little gift from the Palai. Older coven members will receive a scrolled parchment that lists them as honorary citizens of Aimintas and a handmade, harden clay sculpture of their likeness. It may not look a lot like them, but they tried.

F ▢ What about new members? Well, they get the Aimintas Starter Kit: an unmarked vial containing Palai mating pheromones (makes your character affectionate, etc), a bag of cooked shrimp, a collection of their baked goods and energy drinks (containing Elto magic that makes magical abilities hard to handle), and a harmless paper flower. Your character likely isn't used to the dangers of some of these items, so maybe someone can help them...or is it too late?

G ▢ Because the Palai recognize new faces, these new coven members will be dragged to other coven members who they do recognize. In an effort to help make introductions, the Palai are trying to connect new members with old members in order to foster friendships. Say hi to a new, awkwardly introduced covenmate...?

H ▢ Wildcard! How will your character interact with this new and unusual world?

Oh, so you're not an enemy, but one of us.

[ The relieved sigh might be a proof that it's not supposed to be a joke. ]

You can transform into a... [ Hibiki needs a while to reconsider what exactly he's seeing in front of his eyes. ] ...robot cat?

    [ Close enough??? ]
spaceforged: (Black Lion: Made you look)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-09 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Close enough. I'm not the enemy. [He starts to walk and keeps glancing down at his feet. Once he's a few steps he raises his head.]

Even if I was I can't walk or run without thinking about it. You'd have an advantage. But it was smart of you to be careful. I'm Shiro.

It's better to be safe than sorry, or so they say.

[ He's watching Shiro's every step carefully—it's not because he's wary of him, though. It's more like he wants to see the other man's progress. ]

You're getting better at it already. I mean, you didn't stumble. I'm Hibiki, it's nice to make your acquaintance.

[ Offering a handshake might not be the best idea, so he simply bows, smiling. ]

Well, if you need any help with your practice...
    spaceforged: (Team stare go)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-12 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I was about to stop for a while. I've been at this for hours. [As he speaks mentally, he changes, Shiro stumbles and keeps upright with a softly uttered curse. Each time he changes he finds the drain to be just as bad as before. But his emotions come easily back under his control. Could...]

Do all magics we get from the Qri have a price for using them? Or some sort of limit.
    secrowtary: (022)

    [personal profile] secrowtary 2017-09-14 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
    For hours?

    [ That's impressive, to say the least. It's a well-deserved break, that's for sure. ]

I believe there's a price, yes. The Qri took my weapons...as for the limit, it probably depends on your magic proficiency. There's no way around it, just practice, I think.
spaceforged: (Concerned for everyone else? You bet.)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-16 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
...alright. I've only been able to change for five minutes at a time. Then I need to rest for a while. But each time it feels...a little harder.

[Or at least something is off. He can't quite figure out what. He nods once.]

The price. We have no say in what it is. I gather that much. I've heard bits and pieces. But I know the Qri doesn't talk to us directly.
    secrowtary: (039)

    [personal profile] secrowtary 2017-09-17 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, perhaps it's exhaustion. No...that must be it.

[ A few hours of practice could be more than enough to tire oneself, especially from day one. ]

No, Qri doesn't. Genette and Brie are responsible for...guiding us. [ That's probably a good way to put it. ] They haven't been around much as of late, but you must have received the letter.
spaceforged: (There's not much we can do but wait.)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-18 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I did. I was told we're not told much about what we're supposed to be doing or how to do it.

[It bothers him. That kind of shady dealings is not what he is willing to put up with. He'll deal but he'll look for anything he can to find answers.]

...but I don't think what's making it harder is exhaustion. It feels more like...being an alien to myself the more times I change. I don't know how to describe it.

[The tiredness is there but that isn't the whole of it.]
secrowtary: over and over again (017)

    [personal profile] secrowtary 2017-09-18 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true, unfortunately. To be quite honest, I'm not sure if that's because they don't want to tell us what to do or, perhaps, they don't know what we're supposed to do themselves.

[ Sometimes it truly feels like Genette and Brie are improvising instead of following a plan. It's just a hunch, though. ]

But if you have any more questions, I'll try to answer them. Now or later.

[ Hibiki taps his chin a few times, listening carefully to Shiro and clearly trying to make some sense out of his explanation. ]

That's...interesting. Maybe you just need to get used to it...?

    [ ""Just"". ]

Perhaps someone with transformation powers could give you a hand.
    spaceforged: (We'll get through this.)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-19 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
...who else has transformation powers? [How many other people can turn from one thing to another? He'd seek them out in his own but knowing who he was looking for kept from from blindly asking. He runs the back of his neck to ease some of the soreness from long hours of practice.]

I think you are right about Genette. It's possible that she isn't getting any more information than we are. ...but we don't know anything about the Qri other than she needs energy, right? What kind of being is the Qri?
    secrowtary: (039)

    [personal profile] secrowtary 2017-09-20 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe I heard something about a squirrel girl, but I haven't met her personally. Besides, there might be someone among the new arrivals. I might ask around.

[ He's not always so eager to help out strangers, but a stranger who's serious about practice and their duties is another story. ]

She's a witch, apparently. No one has ever seen her nor heard from her, just Genette and Brie...from what I know, anyway. She needs magical energy and our duty is to help her acquire the energy so she can survive. I suppose she must still be a powerful being if she can bring so many people to another world at once.
    spaceforged: (More talking)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-21 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
...and if this is her at a low amount of energy? What was she like when she was full of magic?

[It's hypothetical. He really doesn't want to picture it.]

Thank you for all of your help. Once I've taken another break I'll continue one more practice for the night.

I met Genette briefly but not Brie. What are they like?
    secrowtary: (012)

    [personal profile] secrowtary 2017-09-23 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The only response Hibiki can offer to the question is a sigh and a shrug. Her power is quite impressive even now, at her very limit, and the thought that she had been even more powerful is...upsetting, to say the least. ]

You're welcome. I won't bother you, practice is important.

[ Of course. Then, he takes a while trying to come up with a description of Genette and Brie based on his own experiences with them. ]

They both take their duties very seriously. Genette is kind, but Brie seems to be rather rough and strict, I'd say. Maybe there'll be more opportunities to talk to them when we'll be back on the island.
spaceforged: (Feeling lost? Yeah he does that a lot.)

Apologies RL got in my face for a long while

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-27 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hopefully, there are chances before we have to leave. Their take on this situation could be useful if they have any veteran's insight to give us.
    secrowtary: (037)

    no worries!

    [personal profile] secrowtary 2017-09-27 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
They kind of left us on our own, at least it feels like it. Well...maybe they're trying to come up with a strategy on how to fulfill our mission here. Who knows.

[ Hibiki nods and looks behind his shoulder. There's no one there, but the party is still going strong. ]

It's quite refreshing to see someone who's serious about this, though. But I won't bother you anymore with my blabber.
spaceforged: seriously I'll just go totally crazy (Yeah we're working on it)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-27 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I just don't want to hinder the team. We all have to work together to make it. Thank you for the talk.

[He changes in an instant once more a metal lion. Break time is over.]

I hope I'll see you around again later.
