[WORLD ONE | SEPTEMBER INTRO LOG]

Who: The new coven members, old blood & Palai people
Where: In and around the city land of Aimintas
When: Day 61
Open/Closed: Open to All

  • The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
  • There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!
  • All characters are told briefly what their powers are by Genette -- no extemporaneous details. For instance, if your character has the ability to detect lies, they'll be told as such -- no warning about limitations, repurcussions or the like. They'll also be given a variant of this letter so they aren't totally ignorant of the situation -- though of course adapt this letter to the current setting and surroundings of the game.

This setting may be familiar to you -- maybe you caught a glimpse of it when you first visited. Maybe this is your first time experiencing this weird world and the panic is setting in. If you're totally lost, a tall human woman with a long scroll of paper will stop by to give you the run down. She'll also give you a letter, which may give you more questions than answers since the information is a wee out of date. (Maybe someone else can fill in some gaps for you).

What you may not know is that this world recently experienced something of a tragedy. You wouldn't be able to guess this based on the festive energy in the air. The main marketplace where you've shown up finished reconstruction last night, and after grief comes joy to the Palai -- those lizard creatures you see wandering around. They're now hosting a festival to celebrate their success and the lives of those both still present and those lost.

It's also a chance for them to host one of those big celebrations like they'd previously seen in human books. However, their resources are limited -- don't blame them if things are a little cut-and-paste!

A ▢ One of the preferred methods for masking grief in the Palai world is playing games. Because the Palai are still on their shrimp kick (the old blood characters are probably sick of them at this point), the shrimp are being used as part of a few festival games:

      • Shrimp Scoop: Live prawns have been placed in a tank of water. Instead of paper scoops, players are handed small scraps of cloth which they may then dive into the six-foot tall tank to try and grab the prawns with -- no hands! And no magic or your prawn will be revoked. For extra incentive, sacks of golden coins have been tied to the prawns. These coins can be exchanged for goods and prizes, though what your character receives for their coin -- no matter how bland or wacky -- is up to your character.
      • Shrimp Shock: Dead shrimp have been placed in a wading pool. Your character and another character enter the pool while Elto shock the shrimp out of the water. With about 20 shrimp in the water, the character with the most shrimps caught out of the air wins an allotment of coins.
      • Whack-a-Shrimp: Eltos have powered six large, stuffed shrimp dolls (made with cloth), that will pop out of cut holes in a large game board. Hit the shrimp as many times as you can in 30 seconds, and your number will amount to the coins you receive.
      • Shrimp Fest: Is your character a big eater? Your character is given a plate of cooked jumbo prawns. If they can eat all 50 jumbo prawns in 30 seconds, they win 100 coins.

B ▢ What good is a festival if there's no face painting? Don't worry, you have more options than shrimp. Palai have an assortment of paints and are making colourful designs on both their kin and coven members -- your request may not look exactly as you want it to since they have bumpy hands and claws that get in the way.

This is all pretty juvenile, but fear not! For the mature sort and adults of Aimintas, there's a more quiet part set up that may cater to your older interests. A softer atmosphere, away from the excitement of things. If you want to wind down from the thrill of being magicked away to a new world, this is probably the best way for it.

C ▢ Fans of alcohol will find that the Palai have broken out their best spirits for themselves and the coven. Some of these aged spirits are decades old and have aged accordingly, giving them a bitter flavor with a nasty bite of alcohol. Others are more recently distilled or imbued with magic for an extra buzz. Accordingly, some drinks can get you inebriated pretty quickly. Some drinks are essentially giddy truth serums. Others may have an effect on magic or telepathy. Pick your poison!

D ▢ The environment in this more secluded area of the marketplace is supposed to be more relaxed, but it's also the best place to sit if you want a front row seat to the fireworks exhibit the remaining Eltos are putting on. Through balls of dye and their electrical powers, they're quickly blowing up the sky with arcs of color that rain down in the form of bright pieces of glitter once the spectacle is over.

They also have a special service they're offering -- the Eltos have a grasp on electrical magic, which means they can draw certain things in the sky with these dye balls. If you have a request for a written message or a drawing of some sort, they'd be happy to comply with your wish!

For the real adult experience, however, you may want to check out the large rolling cart that Palai are pushing around the marketplace, landing it in the fireworks area. This cart is filled with all of the eggs that were a product of their mating season, and this part of Aimintas is the warmest.

E ▢ For newbies and those who missed the egg train, your character can instead be Egg Parent for a Night. The Palai are holding their eggs to warm them for the evening, but (like most parents with new babies) they're certainly trying to show off their creations. Hold them, pass them around -- or maybe even act a fool and fend off a fiercely angry Palai parent.

Finally, the Palai are getting used to the standard familiar faces, so they aren't unaware that there are quite a few new faces in the mix. Based on how familiar your character is, they'll receive a nice little gift from the Palai. Older coven members will receive a scrolled parchment that lists them as honorary citizens of Aimintas and a handmade, harden clay sculpture of their likeness. It may not look a lot like them, but they tried.

F ▢ What about new members? Well, they get the Aimintas Starter Kit: an unmarked vial containing Palai mating pheromones (makes your character affectionate, etc), a bag of cooked shrimp, a collection of their baked goods and energy drinks (containing Elto magic that makes magical abilities hard to handle), and a harmless paper flower. Your character likely isn't used to the dangers of some of these items, so maybe someone can help them...or is it too late?

G ▢ Because the Palai recognize new faces, these new coven members will be dragged to other coven members who they do recognize. In an effort to help make introductions, the Palai are trying to connect new members with old members in order to foster friendships. Say hi to a new, awkwardly introduced covenmate...?

H ▢ Wildcard! How will your character interact with this new and unusual world?

( OOC: I can match both html and prose formats. c: )

    A ♦ GOLD SAUCER
This was, technically, her first time at a festival. She hadn't been to one before like this. Not in the middle of it all, taking in the people, creatures, games, and activities around her. She had seen celebrations at a distance and travel guides with pictures that sparked dreams of visiting those places with her family. Only dreams, because until she could hide her wings and tail more effectively, she didn't dare try out of concern for her husband's political position.

Yet here she was, surrounded by a cute selection of shrimp-themed games. It wasn't a festival she'd read about, but a cheerful little celebration nonetheless. This was finally Dizzy's opportunity to visit one... and her family wasn't here with her. Pushing down the feelings of disappointment that threatened to spoil her mood, she turned to someone nearby and gestured to the Shrimp Shock booth.

    "Will you join me?"
D ♦ WORDS DROWNED BY FIREWORKS
The fireworks offered a moment of calm for Dizzy. A moment to watch the dazzling display while letting her situation sink heavily into her mind. She was the one traveling away from Ky and Sin for once. Off on her own mission; one that she had no choice but to participate in. Would it really take as long as a year? Or longer? She appreciated how friendly the letter was written, but it didn't prevent her worries from growing larger in her heart.

Seeing the Eltos using their electric magic for the fireworks only made her feel more homesick.

"Are you—" She halted herself mid-sentence, surprised to hear herself say the words aloud. It was supposed to be a quiet thought. She hesitated before continuing to speak to the person nearby. "Are you worried about being here?"
F+G ♦ IT'S HARD TO STAND ON TWO FEET!
In one moment, she was listening and relating to a Palai couple, the Gear-looking residents, as they gushed warmly about their dear egg. Then, within another moment, another Palai began greeting her cheerfully while handing her item after item. Dizzy was taken completely by surprise and barely managed to hold everything in her arms. She only had a second to keep them from falling all over before she was dragged off again towards someone else.

"I— hello?" She briefly looked to the Palai, who made gestures encouraging her to speak to her sudden acquaintance. Still half-stunned, she shifted the items in her arms and went along with the introductions. "My name is Dizzy. May I have yours?"

Looking away from the fireworks proved to be much more difficult than Hibiki had expected it to be initially, but the question he had heard prompted him to turn his attention away from the mesmerizing display to her. It took Hibiki a while to give his final answer, though.

"I'm not sure anymore, to be quite honest..." He murmured, fiddling with the red clasp on his jacket. "Distance most certainly gives perspective and objectivity. Oh, pardon my babble."

Flustered that he allowed himself to say a bit too much, Hibiki pulled up the collar, covering the lower half of his face, "Are you worried, though?"

She didn't mind the babble at all, didn't even think of it as babble. Dizzy simply listened quietly as he gave his opinion about the whole thing. Talking it out was very comforting, and she really appreciated his willingness to speak.

"I am, a little," she admitted with a nod. "I think I'll be fine, but... I'm worried about the people who aren't with me right now. What will they think? I wish I could tell them I'm safe."

"It probably depends on the relationship you're in with them," he murmured, pondering whether telling her the truth would be the best course of action. On the other hand, was there any point in lying? Probably not. "But they might be upset because of your sudden disappearance. Perhaps they're looking for you."

Could there possibly be a way to communicate with people back in their respective worlds? Hibiki doubted that but didn't share his concern with Dizzy this time. Maybe the opportunity would present itself some time, they couldn't possibly know.

"That's what I'm concerned about," she said, her brows furrowing. "I'm afraid my husband and son will do everything they can to look for me. They're both very similar when it comes to that... they'll tire themselves out running around the entire world if they have to."

Which was not an exaggeration at all, hence her worry. Ky and Sin would both go into a panic the longer she was away, and she didn't want them to think she had disappeared for good. Not after the first scare when she was affected by sublimation. Dizzy could still remember the painful look Ky's face as he desperately struggled to find a way to save her. She didn't want that to happen again.

Look what you've done, Hibiki. Just...look what you've done. When he realized his mistake, it was already too late. Fiddling with his collar, he kept wondering if he could cheer her up somehow.

Like, cheer her up for real. This time.

"Perhaps...you could ask Genette if there's a way to let your family know? It's not much, but maybe it'll be enough to set their minds at ease?" Hibiki offered shyly, still not entirely sure if it was a good idea. Honestly, it felt like giving Dizzy false hope than anything else, since there's no guarantee that it's even possible.

What a nice festival. Between all the attractions, the various food and all else, everyone here is bound to find a means to enjoy themselves. Just watching others having fun more than suffices in brightening up Flynn's spirits. With so much merriment, it ends up hard to believe that a battle and a tragedy occurred only a short while back.

Wandering around eventually leads him over to the games. A fun selection to choose from. He doesn't plan on participating himself, or he didn't, rather. As Flynn's about to start walking away, someone asks him to play one of these games. He turns toward the woman who spoke before glancing toward the suggested game. Shrimp Shock. An interesting looking game, if one necessitating two players. Well, who is he to deny such a request and potentially ruin someone else's fun?

His gaze shifts back toward her and he smiles. "Sure, I don't mind."

Surprise flashes across her face for a moment as the other man's face hits her like a sharp slap to the face. The short, blond hair and the blue-green eyes... the looks of this man reminds her of her husband, Ky, around when they had first met. What an absolute shock to see. And what a strain for a heart that had been trying to avoid these feelings of worry for her family. As kind as he was surely trying to be, this actually makes it a little harder for her.

"Oh!" Dizzy finally exclaims once her senses return to her. She must look so dazed right now. "Then— let's go!"

She leads the way to the booth, the tip of her tail curling pleasantly behind her as she gestures for him to follow. Better to plow ahead and enjoy the game rather than awkwardly dwelling on her thoughts in front of a stranger like this.
    thatdamnknight: (must I observe you)

Going from eagerness to shock ends up a very unusual if worrisome reaction. Flynn's expression shifts into confusion and then to concern. Had he done something wrong or did she possibly not expect him to agree to playing or was something else the matter? Before voicing any possible questions can happen, she speaks again and starts heading toward the game. Momentary hesitation happens on his part before he nods and follows. "Okay."

As he follows behind, Flynn speaks up once more. The concern comes across loud and clear in his voice. "But are you feeling alright, Miss?" He needed to ask. Whatever that reaction was, it wasn't normal. Maybe she's feeling ill? If so then playing games can wait until later.

Dizzy freezes before she reaches the booth. He's caught her red-handed with his question, though she really should've suspected he would. Her surprise wasn't subtle enough and her attempt to cover it up was even more obvious. She clutched one hand against her chest to steady herself before turning around to address him.

"I am," she says with a nod, "thank you. It's just... you surprised me."

With sad eyes, she gives him a small, embarrassed smile. "You look a lot like my husband when he was younger."
thatdamnknight: (think but this and all is mended)

    [personal profile] thatdamnknight 2017-09-12 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The response briefly catches him off guard. Whatever answer he expected, this one certainly wasn't it. To be told he resembles someone's husband, well, it's an odd thing to hear. It takes him a moment to figure out how to respond. No one's ever said anything like this to him before. If nothing else, at least the cause of her odd behavior wasn't an illness and Flynn's grateful for that much.

His surprise vanishes quickly enough and a warm smile replaces it. "I see. Do he and I really seem that similar?" Perhaps talking about her husband could ease away some of the awkwardness in the air.
    dizzyingly: (AR | 004)

    [personal profile] dizzyingly 2017-09-14 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
His response places her heart at ease. Dizzy's smile becomes more genuine and less sheepish out of relief that he didn't find her explanation incredibly off-putting. Her wings tuck in a bit behind her as she relaxes. She's had such a mix of emotions in a short time that maybe talking it out would be for the best.

"Very similar. His hair used to be short like that, too." Dizzy chuckles. She can only go by looks as a comparison, though. "You wouldn't happen to be a knight, too, would you?"
thatdamnknight: (listen to many speak to a few)

    [personal profile] thatdamnknight 2017-09-15 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
That question elicits a soft laughter from Flynn. No more awkwardness hangs in the air, with it getting replaced by light-hearted amusement. What a thing to ask despite the fact he lacks any armor or other signs of knighthood on his person.

"Yes, I'm indeed a knight. I have to admit I'm now wondering whether or not I have a doppelganger in another world." Similar in both appearance and profession? How uncanny. If only they could meet one day. Flynn's admittedly curious about her husband and wouldn't mind finding out how alike they really are for himself.
    cadventuretime: (Well... that one's okay)

[Oh, now this person looked INTERESTING. A magical being? A genie? Some sort of human with a REALLY PERSISTENT angel and devil on her shoulders? Rotty just had to find out! And she was extra pleased when the Palai brought her over so they could get to know each other, she supposes?]

Rottytops, or you can call me Rotty for short.

    'sup?

[It was a basic intro, to be sure, but she was more interested to see how the girl would answer the question.]
