[WORLD ONE | SEPTEMBER INTRO LOG]

Who: The new coven members, old blood & Palai people
Where: In and around the city land of Aimintas
When: Day 61
Open/Closed: Open to All

  • The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
  • There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!
  • All characters are told briefly what their powers are by Genette -- no extemporaneous details. For instance, if your character has the ability to detect lies, they'll be told as such -- no warning about limitations, repurcussions or the like. They'll also be given a variant of this letter so they aren't totally ignorant of the situation -- though of course adapt this letter to the current setting and surroundings of the game.

This setting may be familiar to you -- maybe you caught a glimpse of it when you first visited. Maybe this is your first time experiencing this weird world and the panic is setting in. If you're totally lost, a tall human woman with a long scroll of paper will stop by to give you the run down. She'll also give you a letter, which may give you more questions than answers since the information is a wee out of date. (Maybe someone else can fill in some gaps for you).

What you may not know is that this world recently experienced something of a tragedy. You wouldn't be able to guess this based on the festive energy in the air. The main marketplace where you've shown up finished reconstruction last night, and after grief comes joy to the Palai -- those lizard creatures you see wandering around. They're now hosting a festival to celebrate their success and the lives of those both still present and those lost.

It's also a chance for them to host one of those big celebrations like they'd previously seen in human books. However, their resources are limited -- don't blame them if things are a little cut-and-paste!

A ▢ One of the preferred methods for masking grief in the Palai world is playing games. Because the Palai are still on their shrimp kick (the old blood characters are probably sick of them at this point), the shrimp are being used as part of a few festival games:

      • Shrimp Scoop: Live prawns have been placed in a tank of water. Instead of paper scoops, players are handed small scraps of cloth which they may then dive into the six-foot tall tank to try and grab the prawns with -- no hands! And no magic or your prawn will be revoked. For extra incentive, sacks of golden coins have been tied to the prawns. These coins can be exchanged for goods and prizes, though what your character receives for their coin -- no matter how bland or wacky -- is up to your character.
      • Shrimp Shock: Dead shrimp have been placed in a wading pool. Your character and another character enter the pool while Elto shock the shrimp out of the water. With about 20 shrimp in the water, the character with the most shrimps caught out of the air wins an allotment of coins.
      • Whack-a-Shrimp: Eltos have powered six large, stuffed shrimp dolls (made with cloth), that will pop out of cut holes in a large game board. Hit the shrimp as many times as you can in 30 seconds, and your number will amount to the coins you receive.
      • Shrimp Fest: Is your character a big eater? Your character is given a plate of cooked jumbo prawns. If they can eat all 50 jumbo prawns in 30 seconds, they win 100 coins.

B ▢ What good is a festival if there's no face painting? Don't worry, you have more options than shrimp. Palai have an assortment of paints and are making colourful designs on both their kin and coven members -- your request may not look exactly as you want it to since they have bumpy hands and claws that get in the way.

This is all pretty juvenile, but fear not! For the mature sort and adults of Aimintas, there's a more quiet part set up that may cater to your older interests. A softer atmosphere, away from the excitement of things. If you want to wind down from the thrill of being magicked away to a new world, this is probably the best way for it.

C ▢ Fans of alcohol will find that the Palai have broken out their best spirits for themselves and the coven. Some of these aged spirits are decades old and have aged accordingly, giving them a bitter flavor with a nasty bite of alcohol. Others are more recently distilled or imbued with magic for an extra buzz. Accordingly, some drinks can get you inebriated pretty quickly. Some drinks are essentially giddy truth serums. Others may have an effect on magic or telepathy. Pick your poison!

D ▢ The environment in this more secluded area of the marketplace is supposed to be more relaxed, but it's also the best place to sit if you want a front row seat to the fireworks exhibit the remaining Eltos are putting on. Through balls of dye and their electrical powers, they're quickly blowing up the sky with arcs of color that rain down in the form of bright pieces of glitter once the spectacle is over.

They also have a special service they're offering -- the Eltos have a grasp on electrical magic, which means they can draw certain things in the sky with these dye balls. If you have a request for a written message or a drawing of some sort, they'd be happy to comply with your wish!

For the real adult experience, however, you may want to check out the large rolling cart that Palai are pushing around the marketplace, landing it in the fireworks area. This cart is filled with all of the eggs that were a product of their mating season, and this part of Aimintas is the warmest.

E ▢ For newbies and those who missed the egg train, your character can instead be Egg Parent for a Night. The Palai are holding their eggs to warm them for the evening, but (like most parents with new babies) they're certainly trying to show off their creations. Hold them, pass them around -- or maybe even act a fool and fend off a fiercely angry Palai parent.

Finally, the Palai are getting used to the standard familiar faces, so they aren't unaware that there are quite a few new faces in the mix. Based on how familiar your character is, they'll receive a nice little gift from the Palai. Older coven members will receive a scrolled parchment that lists them as honorary citizens of Aimintas and a handmade, harden clay sculpture of their likeness. It may not look a lot like them, but they tried.

F ▢ What about new members? Well, they get the Aimintas Starter Kit: an unmarked vial containing Palai mating pheromones (makes your character affectionate, etc), a bag of cooked shrimp, a collection of their baked goods and energy drinks (containing Elto magic that makes magical abilities hard to handle), and a harmless paper flower. Your character likely isn't used to the dangers of some of these items, so maybe someone can help them...or is it too late?

G ▢ Because the Palai recognize new faces, these new coven members will be dragged to other coven members who they do recognize. In an effort to help make introductions, the Palai are trying to connect new members with old members in order to foster friendships. Say hi to a new, awkwardly introduced covenmate...?

H ▢ Wildcard! How will your character interact with this new and unusual world?

    A) Dead shrimp

[ Valko stands in front of the Shock Shrimp game, looking unimpressed. He doesn't want to be at this festival in the first place, and this is just making it worse. Dead shrimp, really? Disgusting. He crinkles his nose at the very idea, watching them fly up into the air. The Palai are trying to get him to join, but he keeps refusing. ]

I don't see the point in catching them. Besides, I have plenty of gold coins at home.

[ Maybe he ought to move on to one of the other games. ]
    F) Presents

[ This is something Valko is more accustomed to, receiving gifts. He takes his Starter Kit and kind of stands off to the side to look through the contents. Once again he crinkles his nose at the shrimp, quickly moving along. He looks at the paper flower for a few seconds and sets it aside, pulls out the baked goods and shrugs at them, and then pulls out the unmarked vial last. He gives it a little shake and raises an eyebrow. ]

What, they make it this easy to poison your enemies here?

[ He turns the vial around in his hand and then pops the top off it, giving it a whiff. The smell alone is enough to make him back up a couple of spaces, blinking a few times. Woah. Whatever it is, it's powerful stuff. Hopefully no one saw that. ]
    G) Getting to know you

[ Valko doesn't appreciate being dragged around, yanking his arm away from the Palai once they stop walking. He indignantly fixes his sleeve and then finally eyes who he's been placed in front of. He frowns at first, reluctant to give in to this form of meeting and greeting. ]

This isn't normally how I greet people.

[ He's used to more pomp and circumstance, more respect shown. That is, how do you just randomly meet people? He's very awkward at it, and trying to hide that awkwardness by looking dignified, tugging on the front of his finely embroidered kaftan. ] ... Hello.
    H) Wildcard

[ Valko is generally wandering around the festivities, looking either lost or offended. Feel free to come up with your own prompt in running into him! ]

[alas, someone did, since Vern was also standing off to the side; he's holding a couple of Palai eggs in a sling to give the parents a break and has no desire to risk them in the crowd. or himself.]

You also had no way of knowing if it was an inhalable poison, so...ease on both sides, I suppose? But don't worry, you won't die.

    [personal profile] birthrighted 2017-09-07 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He scoffs lightly to hide his embarrassment, and then gives the stranger a look over. What's with the eggs? Is this normal in this place? How silly. ]

I suppose I didn't. I hadn't thought of that. [ This is why he's supposed to have an Auraseer with him to keep him out of danger. ] You know what this is, then?
rootbound: (keep you inside my lungs.)

    [personal profile] rootbound 2017-09-07 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[he's reasonably well-dressed in that his clothing is well-made and clean and his hair is neatly braided back (Geir fussed him into going to market the other day) but he neither looks nor carries himself like a noble, and yes, the sling looks pretty incongruous. his expression and tone are mostly neutral but the tiniest touch challenging, one eyebrow a little arched]

A sort of romantic potion. It's the time of year when our hosts like to pair off, and they've been trying to get us involved...the effects on us are harmless, just predictably embarrassing.
    birthrighted: (pic#11664329)

    [personal profile] birthrighted 2017-09-09 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ So he's not really a peasant, but he doesn't look like a noble either. That's kind of confusing for Valko. Like, there's no in between where he comes from. The egg is even more confusing. ]

... Oh. Well I have no need for such a thing. [ he glances at the vial again. ] You say the effects are embarrassing... does that mean you've tried it?
    rootbound: (and all my faults.)

    [personal profile] rootbound 2017-09-10 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Hardly on purpose. They had a large amount in an open market stall not that long ago. You could feel the effects if you smelled it there.

...you're new here, aren't you? You got kidnapped here too. Why does Qri keep doing this?
    birthrighted: (pic#11664327)

    [personal profile] birthrighted 2017-09-12 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I see. [ he tilts the vial a little, and then decides to pocket it. There's someone at home he could use this on, and he assumes he'll be going home as soon as he finds whoever's in charge. ] I only took a small whiff of it. Hopefully nothing strange is about to happen.

[ a nod then ] I've just arrived.Such a thing is common? Then someone must know the way home.
    rootbound: (illuminate; evaporate.)

    [personal profile] rootbound 2017-09-14 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
If you have normal physiology for a human -- I am guessing you are human -- and don't feel inclined to be amorous all of a sudden, you're probably fine.

[he doesn't comment on Valko taking the vial. as long as he doesn't use it on Vern himself, it's his business, not Vern's.]

Good luck with the finding-the-way-home part, though. That's been awfully cryptic, or most of us wouldn't still be here.
    birthrighted: (pic#11664329)

    [personal profile] birthrighted 2017-09-15 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm a human. [ something he's never had to clarify before. he raises his brows. ] No, I don't feel anything like that. Right now.

[ he frowns, pushing his lips out a little ] Really? Not a single person has figured it out yet? Perhaps they're not trying the correct approach.
    rootbound: (and all my faults.)

    [personal profile] rootbound 2017-09-16 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Good. [and, in answer to his unasked question--] Some of the coven isn't human but still look it, so I thought I'd clarify.

    [he shrugs, a tiny bit]

Perhaps not, but I would say several approaches have been at least looked into. Our kidnapper isn't a very present...presence, though, and few of us have actual experience with being pulled between realms and worlds, so that makes it a lot more difficult to get much traction.

    [personal profile] birthrighted 2017-09-18 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Is that so? I haven't met any of them yet.

[ or maybe he has and doesn't know it? the thought makes him frown a little. ]

... Well that's just great. I need to negotiate my return home as soon as possible. I'll be needed there, urgently.
rootbound: (but there's something eating at me.)

    [personal profile] rootbound 2017-09-18 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
For all you know I am a werewolf waiting for you to let your guard down.

    [he's really not.]

And I mean, you can try? I tried to tip over the caravan wagon we have around since I think that's got some kind of connection to her, but I just got stuck to it by magic for a while.
    spaceforged: (That nice smile again)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-10 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hello again, Valko. I see our friendly locals have taken a shine to you.

[He is more than little amused. His tone is light. Shiro holds up a hand to the Palai.]

We can handle it from here, thank you. [Once their lizard friends retreat he sighs.] If it helps, they're the tamest I've seen so far. If you stick to hanging around other Coven members they will probably leave you be.
    birthrighted: (pic#11664330)

    [personal profile] birthrighted 2017-09-12 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it was Shiro wasn't it?

[ He remembers his name because he was the first helpful person Valko met in this damned place. He watches the lizard person slink off and almost sneers at it. ]

The tamest? You're joking. [ He sighs, brushing off his kaftan again. ] I haven't been doing the greatest keeping close to others. It feels...awkward.
    spaceforged: (That nice smile again)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-12 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It does. ...we'll adjust. Give it some time. [He nods then laughs just a little.] I wish I was joking but they really are the least worrying people I've ever met. Then again they're peaceful and in a lot of ways a species just beginning to see beyond their own city and learn how to defend themselves.

Who knows what they'll become. But I doubt it will be anything terrible. [His expression turns a little distant as he looks back at the Palai. In his mind's eye he can see the Galra fleets hovering over the world ready to strip it of any resources. Or worse, enslaving the people for their magics.]

They're borrowing technologies from others. Without us around they won't see space for...who knows how long.

Time is something I feel I don't have much of. [ He rather deal with things back home, then eat all this shrimp and be shoved around from person to person. It shows on his face that he's not too happy here. ]

You seem to know them well. You've taken an interest in them. [ he folds his hands behind his back, looking out around them for a moment before back at Shiro. ] If they have a good leader, they'll become great too.

[ it's all about the leader in his biased opinion. ] And it's not so bad borrowing technology from others. I wonder what these people would do up in space, though?
spaceforged: (As long as we work together...)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-16 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
You're right it isn't bad. But, if they use technology they didn't work for...it could lead to a lot of terrible mistakes.

[He glances back at Valko as he continues his voice a little lower.]

Who knows what they'd do. Right now I'm just glad for a peaceful place to learn what we can and get used to our present circumstances. That's better than I'd have hoped for.
    birthrighted: (pic#11664336)

    [personal profile] birthrighted 2017-09-18 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
True. It should be worked for, rather than just taken.

[ it's almost a little scary to think of what those "mistakes" could be. he frowns and shakes his head a little.

but then Shiro does make a good point. ]

It could have been worse, coming here. I just wish the timing was different. I'm not really in the mood to be exploring my new situation.
    spaceforged: (I need another route)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-18 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think we're all unhappy to be here. But we're here now. [They just have to make the best of it.]

...with magical abilities. Some more difficult than others. [He has stopped tripping over his own feet in his other form. But it's still tricky.]

I keep hearing we might be expecting an attack later. Did you hear anything about the Uvi?
