How did you get into this building? This apartment room? What the fuck is going on? Let's refer back to this page for a semi in-depth, wow so detailed, explanation of your current situation. Are you up to speed? Great. Now, here's the question of the hour: what are you going to do about it? A ▢ Unlike the other coven members, the newbies are coming into the apartment building with non-empty apartment rooms. Depending on how polite or cautious you are, your first instinct may be to find your apartment and knock on the door. But it is your apartment now, too, and you do have an ID card that'll get you in. What horrible calamity will you walk in on? What eccentric roommates will you happen upon? The wacky situational comedy scenarios are ENDLESS. B ▢ One of the jobs on the job board this week is fundraising -- neat, right? Before you even make it up to your apartment, you may be accosted by an excited citizen -- coven member or no -- that is trying to push something onto your character. Chocolate bars? Cheese logs? Cookie dough? Some other luxury item or overpriced snack food? Because this fundraising task is based on commission, the citizen in question may be a bit pushy...or you may be inclined to buy ridiculous amounts of goods and not know what to do with yourself.

New coven members showing up today are in luck. This week, Shehui is celebrating a Keep the Community Clean event. It's rare that they force jobs on people, but there has been an influx of new citizens and the population growth is leading to more trash. Fulfill your assignment and you'll be rewarded 1,000 credits. Don't? Be fined 500. Everyone has been sent a job to their ID, be it collecting trash, cleaning their apartment building or holding up signs/handing out literature about recycling. Sweeping, bagging...it's dirty work, but someone has to do it. C ▢ Cleaning up trash on the street might be hard, but it's fulfilling! Okay, that's a lie. It's demeaning and a lot of citizens don't really care about the minimal littering credit deduction as they toss trash from their cars or miss throwing it into bins. Volunteers are outfitted with gloves, vests and a roll of trash bags, but it doesn't prevent them from being rudely splashed with snow or having to pick up nasty things. Have fun! D ▢ For those who decided to pass out literature, you did pick the better job! It's a lot easier to avoid getting nasty, but it's also awkward...having to hand out fliers, be cheerful, regurgitate boring facts about recycling. Please sir, stop and listen to this exciting speech about why should put your cans in the red bins, not the blue ones! E ▢ There is a bright side to these jobs: local businesses are getting in on the outpouring of people out and about to try and get them into seats and buying things. Free samples are abound! There's a local coffee shop, Mooncents, that is handing out free small drinks to anyone who is actually working today. Come inside, regardless if you "volunteer" or not. It's warm inside with all that snow out there...

Speaking of snow! Most businesses and buildings in Shehui have paid to have snow falling every other hour, which coats the city areas in a fine, powdery dust of snowflakes. You may be familiar with snow, or maybe you've never seen it in your entire life! It's unavoidable either way, so you're going to have to deal with it. F ▢ Children in Shehui are usually in a school building somewhere, but snow days call for some leniency. School is pretty come-and-go anyway, so don't be surprised that there are quite a few kidlets out and about on the streets. They're also fully into the spirit of snow, throwing snowballs at unsuspecting strangers. Will you get in on the action, or will you plan the murder of innocent children today? G ▢ While it's unadvised to just go lay out in the street and make snow angels, there are plenty of parks in which to examine or play in the snow. You won't be the only one acting like a fool -- it's Shehui. You're allowed to live a little! H ▢ Finally, Coins! has bought the most snow as a means for their seasonal activity -- snow paintball. If you're looking to have a good time and enjoy Shehui for what it is, you'd best be inclined to sign up. A massive field with snowbanks and excellent areas for hiding, snowball paintballs that hurt twice as much as usual. What more could you ask for? I ▢ Wildcard! How will your character interact with this new and unusual world?

[ After everything Jun's had to deal with coming here, roommates don't seem too dire an issue. He's lived in a college dorm after all! Though in that case he was rarely around enough to be familiar with the other students - study, part-time work, and simply electing to stay with other friends taking priority... but surely this wouldn't be too different?

On second thought, maybe it is a big problem after all. He doesn't know anyone here, and the magic he's use to falling back on is absent! What if something goes horribly wrong? He really can't afford to make enemies here!

For those watching, one can easily spy Jun abruptly shaking his head in the hallway of the complex - clearly in an attempt to chase away some internal monologue. Determination shines on his face for a brief moment. It'll be simple - just remain cool, be polite, and everything will work out... right?

He reaches out to give his apartment door a quick knock, before opening it gently. ]

[ It's impossible to resist free samples. Especially when you're out and about doing thankless volunteer cleaning work in the snow. Which is all well and good, until Jun takes a sip of a coffee and can't help but make a face at it. ]

[ Otherwise, this poor guy can be found window shopping through Shenhui. He's squinting into Optometrist shops in particular, clearly in need of glasses. He seems frustrated at the current prices though, muttering under his breath about how much work it'll take to afford them. ]

[ though ruby has been spending plenty of time in dia's room, her roommates aren't so intimidating that she finds herself unwelcome in her assigned quarters. she's slowly begun to spend nights in her own room, getting more comfortable with being physically away from her older sister at least for short periods of time.

she's alone in the room when jun knocks, working on what appears to be a scarf. she's a little too engrossed in her knitting to hear the knock, only realizing that someone else is there when he speaks up. when she does, she lets out a high-pitched squeak and disappears in the blink of an eye, leaving her knitting supplies behind. invisibility magic sure is convenient! ]

[ Well, that's not at all worrying! Everything Is Fine! This doesn't make for a bad first impression at all!

After a second of internally freaking out himself, Jun tries to salvage the situation and be reassuring - closing the door softly behind him. ]

... sorry! Did I startle you?

[ her voice is disembodied, but seems to be coming from the place where she disappeared... well, more specifically the space between the couch and the living room table. though she can't be seen, she crouched down there to hide extra well. ]

Who... Who are you? [ AND WHY ARE YOU CLOSING THE DOOR ]

[ Maybe if he speaks in a nice and gentle voice she'll stop hiding, at least... ]

[Well, isn't it really convenient that Haru was out doing some shopping as well? Though it looks like the majority of her shopping might be done and over with by the time she runs into the poor squinting Jun.]

Oh, Jun-san? Are you looking at glasses?

[Not that...she remembers him wearing them the first time they met?! Back on the island!? Also he ended up coming to Shehui... not terrible, but not the Best, according to their previous conversation.]

[ He still doesn't entirely understand why such a price is necessary, but it is annoying - while he wasn't entirely attached to his glasses, they were a brand-name gift from his Mother and a dear friend of his had said they looked good on him... plus, you know, it'd be nice to see properly. ]

I might just get contacts instead though. I've worn those before too.

[ Which is true! Though Jun's also motivated to be nice to Haru now since he behaved pretty badly to her when he first arrived. Far be it for him to feel more beholden to her. ]

[Well, at least one of them is... not? enjoying it? No, Mika isn't enjoying it either, mostly because he doesn't even have one in front of him. He's staring at the free samples though. From a little bit away. Warmth is more important than being away from crowds at the moment, but he's still keeping to himself and being quiet.

But... staring. He wants some too, it smells sweet and it's hot and he's cold but he cannot. Look at this kicked puppy look.]

[ It's difficult to ignore such an expression, even from a stranger. Jun is a bit perplexed about why he doesn't just go over and get a sample, then immediately berates himself - he doesn't know this guys life! After a moment of hesitation, he heads over to Mika and offers his cup. ]

Here. You looked like you wanted one?

[oh my god someone came over



and offered him some, that is so nice? That is very nice of this boy. Mika looks glum, shaking his head.]

Oshi-san said I ain't allowed to take stuff from other people... Usually it's food that's off limits, but I think it goes for drinks too. I don't mind holdin' it though.

[IT.... ISN'T THE SAME AS ACCEPTING IT, AFTER ALL.]

[The bell on the optometrist shop jingles merrily as Okuni flounces on it, looking Indignant.]

What's the point of buying glasses that don't do anything?

[She asks in a highly irritated tone, immediately directing it towards Jun because he has the bad luck of being Here in this Moment with Her.]

That's stupid. [says Okuni, who's wearing a giant hairpin in her hair and is dressed like some kind of feudal era Japanese drama heroine, so. maybe only one Aesthetic is acceptable here.] If I'm going to wear something on my face, then they should at least do something interesting. Like let me see for miles.

[It's not glasses Kurapika is looking for, but contact lenses. He's been arguing with an employee for the past ten minutes or so on why he shouldn't need a prescription, since he doesn't need to improve his vision, but he just wants colored contacts.]

Then this "fitting" is how much, on top of the lenses themselves? [He pauses, a sigh, after the employee says something else.] As I've already said, I'm well aware of what lenses I'll be needing. There won't be a prescription, but I want them to be grey in color.

[That goes about as well as you'd expect. The exam and all is too expensive right now, and Kurapika is left sighing at staring down at the weird ID card he was given in exchange for his stolen and much more useful Hunter's License. That's when he catches those mutterings and glances over.]

[ Not expecting anyone to pay attention to him, Jun startles a bit! Though at least he saw Kurapika inside arguing with the employee, so he can more or less guess that he must be having the same problem as him: Too new to have any decent amount of money. ]

Ah... yeah. You too, huh?

[First, they say they don't carry black contacts during "this time of year," and now he can't even get gray ones without a hassle? Annoying.]

I'll have to look into the most efficient way to make money here. From what I can understand, as long as we're willing to work, the people here take no issue to letting us get involved. It shouldn't be too difficult.

[Jay sees him and quirks a smile.]

Not a coffee person, I take it?

Quite the opposite, actually. I'm just not sure if this could be considered real coffee.

Oh, is that your problem? How often do you encounter "real coffee" in the wild?

[ They pretty much took a sample at the same time. Where's Jumin's? Oh, it's already in the trash. He's not about to make anyone clean up his own mess.

He can't afford to hire anyone for that yet. ]
