[Copper, lizards, and vines - oh my! With the recent installation of 9S and co.'s scanning equipment and the also recent, significantly wetter rainstorms there's quite a lot to check out on the island right now. Plus, the monitor robot still needs a name. You're not going to leave them nameless forever, are you?

Too bad Genette's put out word that everyone's about to be moving location soon. That means these are the last days the coven has for a little while to get everything in order, whether it's to take things to the next destination or to leave them behind. Get your bags packed and your huts cleaned, everyone!]

[She's already heard stories about Aimintas and what happened there, but hearing that they'll be traveling to a new world soon leaves Yona with an unexpected amount of jitters. There's no way to calm her restless agitation except to find a way to put her mind at ease, which is why she can be found wandering the paths between the huts and the forest and flagging people down as she spots them.]

Excuse me, were you here when everyone went to the last world? I have some questions to ask.


b. bring your own meat

[Because Yona is still more or less new, she doesn't have much to stow away or worry about packing to bring along to the new world. She's used to traveling light and hasn't started to collect anythung during her stay on the island. But she can still contribute with ingredients for dinner! More specifically, various kinds of meat. A few hours of hunting leaves her with, well, maybe too much meat. It's more than one person can eat, anyway, so she sends out a telepathic message to anyone in the area.]

Does anyone need some meat? I have a lot, and I don't want it to go to waste.

[Anyone who happens upon her in person will find her carrying two adult-sized boars with some difficulty, although the difficulty seems to be their size rather than their weight.]

Sort of. Instead of showing up here on the island first, a big group of us were brought straight to Aimintas.

[As long as she's cool with talking to weirdos, he's got plenty of time to try and answer.]

What did you want to know?

[she pauses to look him up and down; she's never seem armor like his before, but other than the pause she doesn't comment on it and continues on.]

I wanted to know more about what happened on Aimintas, actually. I thought it might help me to understand what we're going to be doing on this new world. Do you know what this magical energy is that we're supposed to find?

The way I understand it, the energy Qri's after varies a little from world to world. Even in Aimintas, we had no idea what we were actually looking for until it literally fell from the sky.

[Slightly apologetic there, because come on.]

I'm hoping that having a feel for what that energy is like means we'll have an easier time figuring things out in the next world, though. Qri's proven she can't be counted on for answers.

[that gets a frown and a nod out of her; Qri's distinct lack of presence and communication hasn't gone unnoticed.]

I noticed that too...I guess it's expected that you can't count on a kidnapper for answers, but I was hoping for more than what we've been given. We're not under any obligation to get this magical energy, exactly, but I wanted to at least look into it if it's a chance of getting home.

No matter what we decide to do with it, finding a better way to search is definitely important. If you think seeing what we found in Aimintas in person would help at all, a lot of us brought some of the bones back here. I could show you the amulet the Palai gave me, if you want.

Oh! You have some of it? I'll admit I'm curious to see it if you don't mind.

[she's not certain that it would put her worries to rest, but any information about what she's getting into is better than none.]

[He's going to just. Step into a nearby hut so he can retrieve the amulet from inside the armor without freaking her out. Pulling things out of your chest in front of girls you just met is weird!!

When he steps back out, he'll offer the Elto amulet to her.]

Normally it's tricky to handle these things without getting shocked, but because of the glass around it you should be okay. It can be used to amplify your magic if that's something you want to try.

[him stepping away isn't particularly notable to her--she just assumes he had it stored inside of his hut instead of inside of his armor, none the wiser. she takes the offered amulet from him with care, turning it over in her hands with interest.]

I doubt my magic needs to be amplified when it's already pretty strong. Still, this is really something! It's no wonder Qri's interested in it if it can amplify abilities like that. Have you tested it out yourself?

[The message about the meat will catch Nike's telepathic radar while she is doing final preparation efforts before heading to the next world. Before she returns the other girl's call, she takes the time to instruct Airis on the way to prepare, it'll take a bit of time until]

If you have some to spare, I'd love to have some. What kind of meat do you have? Sea food or the forest kind?

[there's a little relief in her mental reply; she really didn't want any of the meat to go to waste.]

Boar meat, mostly! It'll keep longer than seafood would, hopefully, so it shouldn't be an issue even if you don't bring it to the new world.

That's true. Smoking meat is easier to preserve than actual seafood. I'm hopping for a snowy winter to be able to preserve fish meat.

[It'll be useful to have early snow to sustain themselves before the pounds and lagoon become encase in ice that will be impossible to crack unless they have a tool to cut through it. Her wind powers would've been useful.]

Where do I meet you to pick them up? I can swing on over now, if you don't mind.

[she's not as familiar with snow being able to preserve fresh meat, but it makes sense, and she files that information away for later.]

I don't mind! I'm just over by the edge of the forest; I was bringing them back to the huts, but if it's easier to find me this way then I can wait here.

Are you sure you don't mind waiting? I don't mind meeting you halfway to help carry some of the meat back to the huts.

[It does make her wonder the amount of food she had. Should she have accepted her offer to go to better help her? Nike can't help think about it now after having spoken from pure mental impulse.]

[she sizes up the boars in her possession, which are both nearly her size, and considers.]

I don't mind waiting. I don't know if you'll be able to carry one of these on you own, so I thought it would be best if I helped out. It'll be easier to know where you want to put it before we start moving anything, I think.

They're that heavy!?

[More importantly, she had that much meat? It really startled her a bit. Most likely this girl was part of the hunting group. With another thought, she'll announce.]

I'm heading over right now! It'll take some time, but I promise not to keep you waiting too long. Is there anything you want me to bring along?

[she settles down on a rather large rock to wait and attempts to be reassuring over their mental connection.]

You don't need to bring anything, it's fine. You're the one who's helping me out here, you know. Please don't worry about it.

Yes, I was one of the first people to be brought here--besides Brie and Genette, of course. What did you want to know?

[she looks relieved when he mentions that he's been there since the beginning--a prime source for of information is exactly what she was hoping for.]

I was wondering about the magical energy that we're being asked to collect. I already heard a little bit about it, but I wanted to see what you thought of it. I'm not very familiar with magic so anything helps.

Certainly.

The source of magic she had us pick up was derived from the bones of a species called the Palai. It took the form of a spiky ball containing electrical energy. It shocked those who touched it, and could also be used to amplify other magic, or as a source of light. Was that what you wanted to know?

[dawninglight]

Sort of...since it came from their bones, doesn't that mean they were all killed in order to get it? I know that no one in the coven killed them, but we won't be asked to do anything like that in order to collect magic, will we?

[although she does her best to keep her tone neutral, the suspicion can't help but leak through a little]

[He sighs.]

Honestly, I can't guarantee that. She hasn't asked Brie or Genette to do anything like that, as far as I know--although I did hear about Brie stealing magical currency from a bank. Still, there's no telling what she might ask of us in the future.

Although I doubt most people in the coven would go along with that.

I thought so too. It doesn't seem like anyone here would go that far just for some energy when there might be better ways to get it. But I was hoping we wouldn't have to deal with a situation like that so soon. It's hard to say what people are willing to do until that situation is right in front of them...and if it might lead to a chance of going home.

[He looks around briefly before saying in a low tone,]

Honestly, we left most of the last energy source with the Palai. We thought they had need of it, and we weren't sure about Qri's motives for wanting it. That indicates to me that the people here are generally skeptical: they want to know more before they'll help Qri, even if helping her could mean going home.

[dawninglight]

[one eyebrow raises at his lowered voice, but she doesn't object to it and lowers hers in turn.]

The letter was...very unclear. There's still a lot that I have to learn about this world, but I know that the best way to be certain of someone's intentions is to see them with your own eyes. Right now the only thing that I know about Qri is that I don't know her at all. If she's someone that would kidnap and exploit others...I don't know if that's someone that I'm willing to help. Even if my friends are worried about me, they would understand.
