Who: Jay and you!
Where: Out and about on the hub island
When: Days 115-118, or thereabouts
Open/Closed: ota!
a. coven organizer coming through
[Jay's plans were put on hold by the sudden appearance of the spirits and all the chaos that came with them, but now that they appear to be gone again, it's time to take stock of what new needs they, and the changing of the seasons that seems to be occurring, might have brought to the coven. He'll be making the rounds of the beach huts and any other residences he knows are populated, knocking on doors with a stack of forms and a notebook in hand:]
Hello. I was just wondering if there was anything you needed at the moment.
b. out and about
[Other than that, you might find him:
i. down on the beach trying out some makeshift carpentry--he's attempting to build a little shelter for the map crate he placed on the beach some weeks ago, to protect it from the elements.
ii. weeding in the mansion garden or the one Haru's planted near the forest;
iii. out with the fishing group in the co-op, teaching newcomers how to use the freshwater tackle he salvaged from the abandoned house;
iv. wandering throughout the island, taking notes in a little notebook.
He'll stop and greet you with a wave if you approach him.]

If something like that happens again on a future world, I'd like to know what everyone's capabilities are so we can plan accordingly.

[ friendly fire is worse than no support at all, she'd told Kosuzu when the other girl had come asking about archery. seems she'll have to either hypothetically dial it back, isolate herself, or... teamwork drills. but she doesn't really know people here well enough for that, does she?
she ducks back into the hut briefly, then reappears with a pen in hand. the form's filled out relatively quickly, though she isn't entirely sure how detailed she should bother to be, and she would still rather not mention some things regardless, whether it's because she doesn't think it much matters or things she would rather not reveal yet if ever. her power has always functioned better when people knew less of it, after all. ]
Is that sufficient for your needs?
no subject
That should do; thank you. [He sounds sincere, at least.] What sort of a power is redirection?
no subject
If something is already in motion, then I can alter the path it would take. It is easiest with discrete items that can be isolated from their surroundings, but things such as light and wind are fair play as well, I've found.
[ she hums a little, thoughtfully. she really should follow up on more extensive testing and experimentation sometime. ]
I suppose it'd be categorized as utility? But not a particularly relevant one for day to day needs. Not as immediately useful as growing trees, and such.

[ She tosses the pen she's still holding into the air. On the way up, a set of concentric diamonds blooms out in empty space to intercept its path while a matching pattern appears in front of her.
The pen flies through the upper and reappears from the lower, and then Homura's snatching the pen back from the apex of its arc before gravity can start it on falling. ]

That really is an interesting power. How far away can the outgoing portal be?

[ how does she know this? attempted trick shots while sniping things in the woods, to compensate for a bow made by an inexperienced bowyer. shh. ]
I haven't tried much further. It would be hard to check the upper limits if I attempted one out of sight, given the terrain and how long it takes to traverse the island.

It could be done with the help of other people . . . using something like light rather than a tangible object, perhaps, too. But it would probably be easier to test that on a world with flatter terrain, you're right.

[ A pause. ]
What was the last world like?

[ Was it lucky, or does Qri specifically seek out worlds of this sort? Hmm. ]

[ evenly, but almost wryly: ]
Why need all of us, then? To... carry it?
no subject
[He pauses here and says, lightly, almost offhandedly,]
Although, as for that--we left a great deal of it with the Palai. There wasn't much of an attempt by Qri to make sure we were doing her bidding.
no subject
[ Blandly. If she has any thoughts on the matter they're apparently not to be found in the delivery of that statement. ]
Do sources of concentrated magic react poorly to each other, then?
no subject
[He sounds just as noncommittal about that.]
You might say they react too well to each other. These artifacts--they were bones carrying a kind of electric energy--amplified each other. It was impossible to handle more than ten or so of them at once.
no subject
How dangerously so, then? Was this relayed to you by Qri, or did someone have to discover this firsthand?
no subject
No, Qri only spoke to us to tell us to collect the bones; we had to find out the rest ourselves.
The bones fell on us, so to speak, because of an explosion above us. The Uvi had a water-bound lair there where they collected these bones, and I can only assume that attempting to bring too many of them together resulted in the destruction of that lair, as well as the Uvi living there.

[ Almost musingly. 'How convenient,' once again, that it was an enemy to reveal this to them. ]
I suppose clairvoyance isn't particularly far-fetched, considering.
