a. coven organizer coming through

[Jay's plans were put on hold by the sudden appearance of the spirits and all the chaos that came with them, but now that they appear to be gone again, it's time to take stock of what new needs they, and the changing of the seasons that seems to be occurring, might have brought to the coven. He'll be making the rounds of the beach huts and any other residences he knows are populated, knocking on doors with a stack of forms and a notebook in hand:]

Hello. I was just wondering if there was anything you needed at the moment.


b. out and about

[Other than that, you might find him:

i. down on the beach trying out some makeshift carpentry--he's attempting to build a little shelter for the map crate he placed on the beach some weeks ago, to protect it from the elements.
ii. weeding in the mansion garden or the one Haru's planted near the forest;
iii. out with the fishing group in the co-op, teaching newcomers how to use the freshwater tackle he salvaged from the abandoned house;
iv. wandering throughout the island, taking notes in a little notebook.

He'll stop and greet you with a wave if you approach him.]

[Let's say they're chilling while fishing. Let's say the rest of the group isn't around? And they are in the middle of a conversation.]

We can account for the telepathy and dreams. The bones we had surged, but they didn't lose their power. Correlation may not be causation, but it isn't unreasonable to view telepathy as a kind of circuit running through and Qri, its power source. An alteration to functioning on the circuit could indicate something happening with the power source. All other elements held constant, then that indicates Qri may have done something with the Eltos bones.

Except that not all other elements were held constant. The moon had an effect on the entire are as it moved towards its closest point of approach.

You're suggesting it might also have had something to do with the aberrations we experienced.

[Thoughtful, not really a question. He considers that for a few moments.]

It's certainly not something we can rule out. The primary effect of the moon seems to have been . . . spiritual, if you will. That could tie in to the lowering of boundaries between individuals, as in the shared dreams and telepathic thoughts . . . although it wouldn't explain why those things stopped. I think you're right that Qri almost certainly played a role.

[ jude's last encounter with jay had been... tense, to say the least, so to see jay waving at him catches him by surprise. ]

... What're you writing there?

[ he sounds a little unsure of himself, voice wavering, but he does look curious. ]

magilou hasn't been actively seeking him out after the dream incident but she hasn't exactly been avoiding him either. that whole scenario had been odd and it was better left unsaid. not talked about. but she is surpised to find him at her hut's door. well then. ]

Oooh, room service, now? How sweet of you!

[ sorry jay. sorry. at least she isn't wearing her stupid hat. ]

[Look, he is just going to keep pretending nothing happened until it actually works, okay.]

[He seems in good humor, though, although he definitely isn't talking about the dream.]

I'm mostly here to make sure no one's starving to death. You don't look like you are, so I suppose there's no need to worry about that. Hello, Magilou.

[ ... jude isn't as good at this as jay is. he's very clearly visibly uncomfortable, rocking back and forth on his heels. ]

And you've been doing all right?

I've been just fine.

[A little pointedly, although his expression as he looks up from his notebook is pleasant enough. He's ignoring Jude's discomfort.]

What about you? How have you been faring on this island?

Glad to hear it.

[ he doesn't miss the very slight snap of jay's voice, and he just manages to avoid wincing. ]

Well, I've been nowhere near as helpful as you are, but I've spent some time gardening, pulling weeds, etcetera. One of my friends from home up and disappeared, though. Elle. I'd like to think she made it back, safe and sound. I know others have vanished without a trace, too, and hoping for that gives me some peace of mind.

[ he hesitates, before adding: ]

No more strange dreams, either.

[rebells]

Elle's gone?

[His hand twitches over the notebook like he wants to mark that down in it, but he lowers it instead.]

I hadn't realized . . . I certainly hope she's back home. I question Qri's wisdom in taking her in the first place.

[talim]

[ jude frowns, looking a bit forlorn. elle had become sort of like a younger sister to him. it's much quieter without her around to nag at him. ]

Yeah. One morning I woke up and she was just... gone. Not even a trace of her.

But I have to agree. A little girl at such a sensitive age had no good reason to be stuck here in the first place. She needs to be home, surrounded by friends and family who will make sure she's able to live a normal life. That's why I have to believe that she made it back.

[rebells]

. . . I think someone asked Genette to ask after what happens to those of us who leave the coven. I don't know if they ever got an answer, but I can ask again, if you like.

[talim]

You would do that?

[ he both looks and sounds surprised, but that look is replaced with sincere gratefulness. ]

... Thank you. I'd really appreciate it. Hopeful or not, I still can't help but worry about her.

[rebells]

--of course. It's a matter of interest to everyone in the coven, after all.

[He seems a little embarrassed for some reason??]

We'll get to the bottom of this, one way or another.

Is there anything I can do to help you out?

You could bother Genette about it yourself, too. That might make her communicate the information to Qri with more urgency.

And practice sending telepathic messages to Qri. Even if she doesn't respond. Especially if she doesn't respond.

[ he's never done that before— tried contacting qri. ]

How many times have you tried contacting her? I'm just wondering, is all.

[Matter-of-factly:]

I've been speaking with her every day for about a month. She hasn't answered yet.

[talim]

And you're still hoping she'll respond?

[ and jude thought he was idealistic. ]

[ One of those beach huts has a few purple flowers growing around it and the name "Sophie" sloppily written on the front. When Jay approaches this particular hut, he'll be greeted by a pig-tailed girl at the door. ]

...not really? Why?

She may not be able to respond properly. You saw how she was when she had to contact us about the Eltos bones. I'm hoping that effect will fade with time and practice.

[A beat.]

Also, if nothing else, I thought it might annoy her into answering.

[rebells]

[Jay gives the girl a cheerful smile. If he's noticed that there's something weird about him wandering around knocking on everyone's door, he doesn't let on.]

Qri brought a lot of people here who aren't necessarily used to having to survive in the wild. I wanted to make sure no one was starving themselves to death or anything.

[Moon is out jogging around--she's an eleven-year-old who's full of energy--when she runs into Jay. Not literally, luckily for both of them.]

[He smiles and waves when he sees her.]

Hello, Moon. I'm trying to construct some sort of covering for this map. [He gestures to the crate with the tacked-on map.] I'd like to be able to leave it out without worrying it'll be ruined in the rain.

Oh! [That makes sense. Moon opens her bag to consider her Pokeballs.] Do you want some help? I'm sure my Pokemon can do something... [Cutting, at least.]
