[WORLD ONE | OCTOBER INTRO LOG]

Who: The new coven members and old blood
Where: In and around the hub island
When: Day 92
Open/Closed: Open to All

  • All characters are told briefly what their powers are by Genette -- no extemporaneous details. For instance, if your character has the ability to detect lies, they'll be told as such -- no warning about limitations, repercussions or the like. They'll also be given a variant of this letter so they aren't totally ignorant of the situation -- though of course adapt this letter to the current setting and surroundings of the game.

This setting may be familiar to you -- maybe you caught a glimpse of it when you first visited. Maybe this is your first time experiencing this weird world and the panic is setting in. If you're totally lost, a tall human woman with a long scroll of paper will stop by to give you the run down. She'll also give you a letter, which may give you more questions than answers since the information is a wee out of date. (Maybe someone else can fill in some gaps for you).

What is at first painfully obvious is that you're ill-equipped. Any magic or powers you had previously are suddenly replaced with an empty hole in your being. That's not all that's gone, but perhaps that's what's most pressing.

Another thing you may notice is that there are others just like you, wandering around and just as confused. If you feel so inclined, you may want to ask around and see if anyone else knows what's up.

A ▢ If one of your characters isn't looking to introduce themselves to others, someone's willing to do it for them. Genette is trying to make sure all newbies are accounted for and have a buddy, so she's grabbing them when she finds them and tossing them at the first coven member she sees. "Hi, so-and-so, this is so-and-so! They're new, so show them the ropes -- be friends, okay?" You get the gist. Your character may be paired up with another newbie, a seasoned character or both! Five times, even! Timelines in RPing are weird!

B ▢ Let's say that instead of milling about and doing nothing entirely productive, your character has decided to try and venture off to find a way off this huge floating rock. That's nice -- but be warned that the forest is filled with interesting things. For instance, they've happened to find a hollowed out tree that happens to be where a hoard of land crabs are living. They move fast -- run quick!

C ▢ Other characters may want to establish shelter before they do anything else -- and that's their right! The problem is that if your character wants to be well-supplied, they're going to have to do things for themselves. There's something of an assembly line set up, but not a lot has been done in way of making things workable. Genette wanted all new coven members to have a little food parcel to take to their hut, but time constraints, you know? If you want any food for now -- or for later -- you may want to cook some of this (poisonous) eel, salt some boar jerky or cut into one of these rabbits. You've also got some berries to eat in the meantime, if you want something simple!

By the time afternoon sets in, everyone should be a little more adjusted -- or, they should at least be a little more aware of the situation. From there, things still need to be done and exploring is always an option!

D ▢ For those characters who want to stick around the base camp, there's something worthwhile in discovering the buildings around the area. One such building is the mansion, which contains extra supplies and a renovated kitchen. The kitchen is now functional with electricity and running water, with a few raw ingredients for making whatever your character would like. It's minimal, but also not totally useless.

E ▢ If you mill about too long, you'll be put to work. Run into Genette and you'll be sent to pick western part of the island to look for strawberries, wheat and deer (good luck hunting if your character doesn't have the capabilities, but maybe someone else can help?). Run into Genette and she'll offer your character an ax to chop wood with (is this a wise idea? probably not), or a request to go fishing in either a stream or the ocean attached to the island on the eastern side. Or your character can do both if they so choose...?

F ▢ With all of these new people milling about, telepathy is on the fritz again. At least, it certainly is for those who are new! Your character may not realize their broadcasting frustrations to the network, or maybe a stupid secret. Their mental filter is certainly broken, but that's at least a great conversation starter.

Night finally falls on the exhausting day, and it's time to rest. Thankfully the island is beautiful at night, especially the sky. The night is filled with space worms, relaxing mist and wondrous sights in the stars.

G ▢ Adding to the excitement of the beautiful night, Genette has set up something of a...talent show? In an effort to get new coven members acclimated with their magic, she's asked them all to use their magic in some way -- it may take a volunteer, or maybe they can show it off all on their own. In any case, show me what you got.

H ▢ Of course, some characters aren't going to be up for this fancy display and will want to go about their own business. There are plenty of places to sit and stew on this island, both private and in plain sight. The stars are spectacularly bright, and the higher up your character gets the less it seems like night time. If they're lucky, they may catch sight of a shooting star, though it's of course much larger than usual. They're directly in space, after all!

I ▢ Wildcard! How will your character interact with this new and unusual world?

[ Right. The most logical explanation. Aliens made robots who attack humans. Doesn't sound completely ridiculous at all.

Then again, it's not as though his own world makes all that much sense even for someone who lives in it. He fought two actual gods not too long ago. ]

Really? Who killed off all the aliens? And how do the robots keep attacking if their creators are dead? Wouldn't they stop working eventually?

[ And just how long of a battery life do they have? Not to mention, someone would have to input their orders ...or do they only need to be ordered once? He has so many questions about this premise. ]

The machines did. Supposedly they grew tired of the aliens' basic goals, so they killed them themselves. [She's not exactly sure how credible Adam was, but there was no denying that all the aliens she saw underground had been dead for ages.] They kept attack because they wanted to. The machines have a certain degree of intelligence, and they're capable of repairing themselves and creating new ones.

["A certain degree," as if Adam and Eve and Pascal weren't on equal footing with androids. Maybe even more so. There's no denying that they machines and androids more similar than any android would've liked, but it's uncomfortable to admit that aloud, even to someone unfamiliar with the situation.]

So it was an endless war, essentially. [Look at least she'd agree that the whole premise is..... pretty weird.]

[ Maybe it's one of those things where he had to have been there to really understand. As it is, he just listens a bit slack-jawed, unsure if he's ever even heard of a sci-fi movie with a premise that strange. ]

So the machines were able to gain their own will and kill their creators...

[ It's even more surprising they can make new machines. How were they able to evolve to that level? It shouldn't be possible at all. It's almost as though they'd somehow become more human. ]

    And you are...?

[ Because he's starting to clue into the fact that she isn't just an ordinary human either. He wouldn't have pegged her for a soldier on sight, but other worlds seem to exist outside of the bounds of what he considers normal. ]
apatheia: (we don't talk about the sidequests)

[Just don't mention thinking that about the machines to her....

But that's an easy question to answer. Explaining what the machines are only became more and more difficult, but her purpose has always been clear.]

An android. I was built to fight the machines for humanity.

[ Oh. Well that makes more sense now. A little. He's still trying to wrap his mind around the nuances of the events from her homeworld, still thinking it sounds like a convoluted plot point more than real life. ]

But you're not a machine yourself? What's the difference?

[ She's obviously more advance than the average toaster or microwave, but what's really stopping her from being like the machines? Is it because one was made by aliens and the other humans? ]

Couldn't they just turn you into one of them or the other way around...

[ How advance is the alien tech that they can't just be hacked into or reprogrammed? ]

[She stills, her hands quietly clenching into fists by her side. The unnerving similarities and continuously growing similarities between them and the machines aside, it still hurts to think about what happened to YoRHa.]

... They can turn us into one of them. [They turned all of YoRHa into one of them.] It's called a logic virus. Once an android is infected, if nothing is done to remove it, they'll either go berserk and attack indiscriminately, or cease functioning. Some android models can do the same to them. [Well, more like could, but 9S is still alive, so she thinks that counts.] Through hacking, those models could control the machine or reprogram them into an ally if they wanted to. It's usually simpler to just destroy them though.

As for our differences, the technology behind us and who made us. What our purposes are. We're modeled after humans, and they aren't. Most of them are connected to each other via a machine network, and we aren't connected to each other like that. All androids are capable of complex thought and have individuality, and most of the machines don't have those capabilities.

[Although she realizes that a lot of those differences might seem superficial, and in the end, well, the machines are changing. Most of the machines weren't capable of the things that Pascal, Adam, and Eve had demonstrated, but the three of them were all still machines. Not all of the machines were even hostile. Those differences might not always be there, given enough time.]

[ That's more of a detailed response than he was expecting. Hopefully, she stays on their side since he knows Niflheim would love to get their hands on this technology -assuming they don't already have it. ]

Are you able to hack into them in return? If they were to show up here or of you found anything mechanical?

[ That could come in handy. Imagine having the magitek infantry at their disposal instead of the other way around. Or even just some of their weapons.

Not that he's seen any signs of machine lifeforms around, but it's good to have a plan. ]
apatheia: (another day another fucking goliath)

    [personal profile] apatheia 2017-11-27 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
[shaking her head] I can't hack them myself, no. I'm a combat model specialized in destroying them.

[... Well, that's true enough here. Not for the first time though, she wishes her pod was here with her. It'd at least make her capable of hacking an enemy machine if the need arose, even if she probably wouldn't be very good at it.]

There's another YoRHa android here who can though.

Good to know. I got things covered here in the meantime... found enough worms. Could use soap if you dispense that. From somewhere.

[ Even if she could, he's not sure if he would actually use it. He'd be too scared of what would be inside of it and where the soap would come from. He still has so many questions about her, but he'll just keep them in his head in lieu of not seeming odd in front of the nice android lady.

Maybe some things are just better left unspoken. ]
