You're not doing anything right now, right? Good. Genette's using some of the resources taken from Aimintas to create a little get together. Even if you do have something going on, she's not averse to using a little force to make the evening magical. In fact, the magic is exactly how she's pulling this off. Genette is offering you to a little get together at the base camp, which may be all it takes for you to follow her. If not? Your hand is tethered (or some other part of you) quickly and you're led to the camp anyway. This is important, darn it! What's so important? A little "party" of sorts. There's an assortment of foods, some of which have been hastily made since some groups have gone harvesting for new resources, and a large water basin that's acting as a punch bowl. The true purpose of this little activity is a 'get to know you' exercise of sorts. Genette's got a glass container of a large quantity of Elto bones that can short-circuit the tethers, but the caveat is that you have to participate in a little, tethered sharing circle. (It's honestly a good idea to know who you're stuck within your little makeshift coven, but Genette is the pushy sort when she sets her mind to something.) The way to be released from your Elto shackles? Tell everyone your name, where you're from, your magic (seemingly left a little ambiguous) and something else about yourself. Discussions are encouraged! The more people know, the better! After you're done sharing with the class, food and drink is yours to have -- or you can just run off, that's fine too. OOC: Characters who would have absolutely nothing to do with this can of course escape, whether fleeing in the first place or using Elto bones of their own to circuit out their tether. A ▢ This is it -- your character can breathe deeply, unlock their knees and get this little activity over with. All they have to do is share the criteria and they're free to go! B ▢ Afterwards, their free to stick around the area and mingle. There IS food and also drinks. They may also want to have a more private conversation about something they learned tonight.

[it seems a little strange to be asking this to a dragon, but surely, stranger things could happen. and Geir seems like he's been around the block once or twice.]

I guess it depends how much we believe her and what her intentions are. The abilities she gives us could be her way of balancing things out for the people who can't defend themselves. But at the same time, not all abilities we've been given are useful in battle. Maybe she has to pick at random.

Either way, I doubt she's going to tell us anything.

Well, if we can get a group together that knows how to fish, then we should be able to supply enough fish for the coven. But if we want variety we'd need another group of hunting other types of meat down. And...maybe people who know plant life well? For fruits and berries and things like that. People who know how to tell what's good from what's poisonous.

[He looks distinctly amused, but then his expression shifts into something more serious.]

At any rate, it's good that you can fish. Not everyone can, and I have a feeling that fish are going to be one of our main sources of food as long as we're on this island.

I hope so! If you're sixteen, then you aren't wrong.

[But at the mention of marriage, Nike will look a little troubled by it. Trying to find the correct way to word it all as.]

Not really. I'm not exactly married, but....I have someone who has been arranged to be. In the future. Once he's a little older. That is...if he doesn't believe I left to get out of it.

[this is near-unprecedented, too. people don't typically ask him advice. he's being trusted for an answer, and that's a real responsibility. Geir's eyes go wide, surprised at the response, and he answers softly and with care.]

[it's not that she hasn't wanted to hug Mami, it's just that she doesn't want to disrespect a senior magical girl. though, Nike's left her wondering if, whenever she gets home, she should.]

Oddly enough, the people who can't fight on their own don't seem to have powers that would lend themselves directly to it. I know of one who can sense emotions, and one who can manipulate smoke. So maybe it's random. [He shrugs.] On the other hand, both Genette and Brie have useful powers that seem to suit them.

[He's straightened a little, and seems to be considering Riku more carefully.]

You're probably right that she's not going to be telling us anything any time soon, however.

As for the other thing, your thoughts are pretty much in line with mine. I'll have to go around and see how many people need help obtaining food and how many are willing to help in turn . . . . [He seems to be thinking about this.]

Japan is a monarchy, actually. The emperor has no real power and is relegated to ceromonial duties, though.

[ He smiles warmly, one hand reaching up to frame his chin as he thinks for a moment. These concepts are all completely natural to him, what's the best way to explain them to somebody from a different world where things work in different ways... ]

The police is a government agency; they're the enforcement component of the criminal justice system, they protect people and property and maintain public order in a community.

I meant on a more permanent basis. But I concede your point.

[ he was kind of on an errand. the fact that he just happened to spot some strange woman walking on water had nothing to do with the reason why he kept chasing it when it floated down there, nope. ]

[She can't help notice the way he reacted so calmly towards her and changed the subject as easily. There are few people that have ever acted in the same manner. Most were politicians while others were part of the military.

Either way, his change of topic will catch her attention, a small frown forming as she admits.]

I had a feeling it'd be the case. Not everyone is from the sea or somewhere that relies heavily on hunting to get by. I know very few people who can do just one.

[Her country prides in living a self-sufficient lifestyle without the need to ask for other governments or kingdoms for their help. Their borders have been close for half a century already. With that said, she'll look at Jay with interest.]

There are frogs and snakes too. I haven't studied them yet, but they can be another good source of food too. Turtles and crabs are our safest bet next to the fish and boars.

[But that wasn't their topic of conversation right now.]

What are you thinking we should do? I've thought of wanting to ask everyone about the level of their survival skills. To figure out the amount of those that can't fend for themselves and the amount that can. Maybe even make a sort of system to have those with survival skills teach those interested to learn how to do it. Like a mentorship kinda thing.

[There may be a short pause as Nike can't help realize just how dumb it all sounded.]</small. Something like that anyway.

Maybe a little. It's just that I've been having a hard time figuring out how to make myself useful. It's nagging at me.

[It was rare for Nike to want to escape from a crowd. A friendly one, no less, where she could act like herself without the fear of having those treat her like royalty. There was a lot of people she was able to reconnect and others she gained the opportunity to meet and learn about. All in all, she had a lot of fun.

So when she notices Riku in the corner of her eye, away from the crowd, she can't help want to not just walk up to him, but play a new game with him. She'll try to work through the crowd until she was behind him, slowly sneak her way, and then attempt to cover his eyes from behind.]

[That's all she has to say. It wouldn't be any fun for him to guess her voice so easily if she rose her voice or kept on speaking.]

I think that would be a good idea. If we get an idea of what everyone needs and can do, we can make a plan to cover the meals of anyone who can't hunt or fish. We might be able to arrange something where they agree to learn those skills in exchange, or help with gardening and gathering.

I'd hardly say you've been useless to the coven thus far.

A blue bird? How lucky! I don't think I've ever seen one before. Do they really sing beautiful melodies?

[As for his question, Nike will shake her head.]

I've never had a pet before, but I did lose something really important. [Touching her ears.] My earrings. They're known as "limitors" back in my country.

It's possible. There's been a bleed in membership for the last three years.

[ he appreciates hearing it, and he puts on a small smile to make that gratitude clear. ]

I didn't really consider it, but now that you're pointing it out, I'd say that definitely has something to do with it. I've never been without them before. They're second nature to me. They're just... they're there, and now they're not, and I'm rambling, aren't I?

Three years...

[ jude boggles for a good ten seconds before realization clicks, and he stifles a laugh. ]

Alright, I get it. I'm easy to mess with. Your poker face sure is impressive, though.

Maybe it's the goggles.

I wouldn't mind. I'll have to find some boulders that are suitable for beginners first, but it shouldn't take long.

Yes.

[Straight-faced again. But he drops the act after a minute, and looks thoughtful.]

That's only natural, I think. I'm used to fighting with my powers; I'm sure you're also used to using them in your line of work. But there are certainly other ways you can be useful, if that's your concern.
