[So maybe you were invited along on this expedition by Jay or a friend. Maybe you heard a telepathic message a couple days ago looking for people with scouting and mapping skills and answered the call. Maybe you just happened to be in the area. Whatever the reason, there's a small group of people and dragons assembling on the beach near the huts, and Jay appears to be in the center of it, checking that everyone he's expecting is accounted for.

They'll be going by air to map the near western coastline and circling back around to camp, touching down every so often to look for landmarks and other potentially useful areas on the way. You're welcome to come along, if you can bargain yourself space on dragonback.]

[excuse you he is a tall and majestic creature!!! he's watching Geir with open fascination too, obvious in the tilt of his head and the angles of his body even if his face isn't as expressive as Geir's in this shape]

...it could be. I guess she might've thought the telepathy was enough. At least no one has to write in the dirt to communicate, right?

I don't write, so that's a good thing!

[his tone is agreeable enough, though it doesn't exactly invite further comment. discussing literacy isn't high on his list of things to do today, so he follows it up with a subject change to a much more pressing topic:]

Why are you hiding back here?

[twitches a little at the change in topic, but...okay, he supposes he can see why Geir wants to do that]

I'm not hiding; it's just relaxing being back here. There's a lot of water.

That's right! You had some kind of water powers when we were carrying people to the island, didn't you?

[Geir's tone is approving. he doesn't really understand that kind of power at all and has never seen it before, which makes it interesting and therefore cool.]

Is that from Qri, or did you always have it...?

Oh...that's mine. I'm a water seraph; a bit like a spirit, and it's my element. I always feel pretty cut off from it when we're on this island, so I do stuff like this.

[wistful...]

[Geir shifts and then turns his head entirely to regard Mikleo from the other eye, struck by this.]

A bit...? It's a lot hard to think about being cut off from water or unable to sense it if you're right in it, I guess, even though it's not the same.

Hmmmm... sometimes I don't like it if I can't see a clear route to the air, so that makes sense. Maybe it's just different reasons and ways you can want to be able to touch something.

[he shakes his head a little, deciding that idea is probably close enough to correct to be getting on with.]

Mmm. I'm hoping we don't go to a desert planet next, honestly. I've never been, but most of the water's way underground...

[even thinking about it is sort of uncomfortable, to the point where he shoves his own face into the waterfall to take a drink]

I've never been in a desert. Mostly, they sound like a nice place to get some sun... I guess it'd be different for a fish spirit.

[he tilts his head further.]

Did you live in the ocean, back where you're from?

No, I've never actually seen the ocean at home. Elysia was up on a mountainside, and we were pretty far inland. We didn't get to travel far enough in that direction to reach it.

That's too bad. It's fun to swim in the ocean-- the real ocean, I mean. Both this place and Aimintas don't exactly count.

At least mountains have a nice view.

Yeah, they do. You want to see? I think I can send the picture over, at least some of it...

[Geir perks up immediately. he loves seeing new, unfamiliar things, and discovering that telepathy can include pictures was a great day for him.]

[he gives him this view from the cliffside not too far from Elysia, and the view of Ladylake, much later in the day and lower down the mountain...]

That's almost as good as flying.

[he hesitates, then impulsively sends Mikleo back a similar image: sunset over the forest in Midgard, with the light just barely catching the ribbon of water through the trees, from higher than even the mountain view of Elysia.]

Oh...beautiful...

[closes his eyes like he's trying to get a better look at it, in his own head]

[...Geir ducks his head and preens a bit, strangely proud of Midgard. an unfamiliar sensation!]

That's the nice thing about flying. At least you still have that here, even if your water powers don't work.

Oh--well--yes.

[oddly sheepish...?]

You don't have to if you don't want to. I've gotten some value out of being able to take this form, though, and out of being brought away from home, so -- I guess I want to try and focus on the positives of the situation.

[Geir's snort is more humorous this time, his eyes dancing with amusement.]

Hahaha, I know what you mean. I'm the same -- you're just being nicer about it than me.

[he doesn't seem too bothered about it! he does pull his head out from the crashing water, though; he can feel a fish bumping into him curiously and he wants a tiny Goldfish snack.]

It'd be too worrying otherwise!

[lets him go, putting his chin down on the ledge again; he intends to stay here until the group wants to move on.]
