[WORLD ONE | DING DONG THE FISH IS DEAD]

Who: Coven members and the Palai
Where: Celebrating the Uvi going boom-boom
When: Day 67
Open/Closed: Open to All
OOC Note:

  • The initial setting information found here should be utilized for threads here.
  • There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!

For decades, the Palai have had to deal with the threat of the Uvi invading their homes, killing their families and returning 30 days later. After the coven found their way to Aimintas, the Palai found that the threat wasn't so...threatening.

After the last attack, with many more Palai lost as compared to previous Uvi instances, some Palai had lost hope. Now, after seeing their nemesis blown to bits and falling out of the ocean, their faith in safety is restored.

While the Uvi are still committed (by and large) to learning more about barriers and other forms of safety, the time for focusing on serious things has passed. It will return, but tonight? They celebrate.

Unlike their last, shrimpy festival, this party has a lot more going for it. The Palai have had time to process the events and prepare themselves for a grand celebration. The Palai know how to party, but you ain't seen nothin' like this.

A ▢ As a birthday tradition, the Palai give the birthday lizard a special concoction. It contains Elto energy and a combination of found herbs that can easily be located in Aimintas. When these herbs are combined with the Elto energy, they create a sort of...hallucinogenic experience. It's supposed to feel extremely relaxing and give the Palai pleasant visions, but in human bodies it's essentially just getting high. There are vials of these being passed around like candy, so don't worry about anyone running out.

B ▢ Despite the adults getting lit, there are obviously a lot of baby Palai on the lose. Responsible coven members who have their own babies will have the ability to let them run wild and play with their lizardy cousins. If you want to spend time with your baby, the nursery caretakers have platters of crackers with mushy foods adorning them -- these are essentially candy to a tiny Palai. They may also be tempted by other foods present at the festivities, but you can avoid them getting a tummy ache if you have a watchful eye.

C ▢ Speaking of food, there certainly is a lot of it. There are large grills being heated by the newly found bone structures. These hold shrimp and fish, grilled vegetable skewers and other foods. Instead of the Palai doing the serving, the coven members and other Palai are instead encouraged to utilize their own raw ingredients (which includes several large sharks, dolphins, etc.) in whatever fashion they choose. It's essentially a "build-your-own-kabob" station with no limits.

D ▢ Because the party is lasting on into the night, some Elto have decided to light the marketplace with some of the bone structures they found by powering them and inserting them into small cloth bags that they then magically levitate around. While they provide a powerful light source that can increase the party's longevity, they're also floating live wires. Bump into one of these and you'll get a nasty shock! This is doubly concerning since Palai babies are fascinated by following these floating "toys."

E ▢ The Palai, feeling more familial and supportive of their ideals than ever, haven't let go of the whole family/romance pushing on the coven. Their newest attempt is a bit of a prank (probably due to high Palais) who have taken magic bone structures and tied thick strings to the spines that poke out of them. At the end of these strings are loops that they're quickly slipping around the wrists of coven members they find. You may find that you're suddenly magically connected to someone -- or two other people if you're lucky enough -- by a magical thread that's VERY hard to slip out of or break.

F ▢ Wildcard Part 1: Other previous party prompts can also be considered here, from the rolls that make magic go haywire to the aged liquor that causes a bit more than a headache.

G ▢ Wildcard Part 2: Any prompt you like!

  • alphonse: (Like this.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-09-18 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You were piloting a giant metal cat?

[Not disbelieving so much as horribly confused. Still, coolest military ever??]
    spaceforged: (...huh)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-18 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. As far as I can tell I'm just borrowing the Black Lion's shape not its power.

[He growls as the feedback slaps him right in the jaws. It had been fine until he kept holding the bone and the connection. Shiro is knocked flat in a shower of sparks. He goes one way. The bone the other.

    He jerks up and coughs.]

Ow! Well it doesn't like someone trying to keep a connection to it.
    alphonse: (Concern.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-09-19 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Al hovers anxiously, not sure how to best help when Shiro's still in lion form.]

Are you all right? Getting a reaction like that while you were still transformed means we can rule out the problem being a limitation of just human bodies. It seems like the bones react that way to anyone who isn't an Elto.
    spaceforged: (Black lion: charging in)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-20 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
    I'm fine.

[He climbs back to his feet and pads slowly over to the bone. He nudges it with a foot. It doesn't jolt him like before. Interesting.]

It makes sense the bones would shock anyone, not Eltos. There has to be something in their bodies that can connect with that energy and use it safely.

[Shiro leans down and takes it back into his jaws. It sparks but that's it.]

You can rule out trying to open a connection and stay linked to it. I think that's why it produced that feedback.
alphonse: (106 more chapters to go.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-09-20 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
If we can't find a way around it, then they're pretty much useless to us.

[Generous as the Palai are, there's no point in sharing something they can't properly use.]

I wonder if that's the same thing that happened to the Uvi. Maybe they tried to compensate for the problem by adding more power until it was all too much.
    spaceforged: (Black lion stop! Stop!)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-20 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure adding more power would compensate enough for that kind of kickback. ...maybe we're going about this wrong.

[This could be very stupid. But they need to know something and the risk could be worth it.]

What if we both try to use the bone at the same time? It could shock both of us the same as before. But that might spread the effects out.
    alphonse: (Kneel.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-09-21 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm willing to try if you are.

[They know so little that anything is honestly worth a try at this point. He moves closer to Shiro and the structure and kneels down.]

    On three?
    spaceforged: (Black lion: Delaying tactics)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-22 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Shiro nods and tips his head slightly to give better access to the bone in his metal jaws.]

    On three.

    One, two, THREE!
[On the final count he reaches mentally for the bone to draw the energy through him. He leaves that channel open.]
    alphonse: (Please die.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-09-22 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Al reaches a hand out to hover just above the bone, mostly to guide himself, and follows suit on tapping into its power once Shiro counts down. Magical feedback is a very tricky thing for him to judge, but at least at first, it does make the energy seem less overwhelming.

Unfortunately, he isn't putting much thought into how to direct his magic, making the effect produced kind of eerie. Random plants and objects around them phase in and out one by one in no apparent pattern.]

    Still good?

[How Shiro handles the energy is the real test, after all.]
spaceforged: (We have to fix it)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-23 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[The feedback this time is akin to how he felt when he was battling for control of the Black Lion. Annoying and really powerful but not enough to stop him. Shiro growls, but his mental voice is a crash of sound compared to before.]

...YEAH, IT HURTS BUT NOT ENOUGH TO BE A PROBLEM!

[Out of the corner of his eye he can see the plants rising and falling. That is not normal. Even by the strandards of weird he knows, it's pretty weird.]
    alphonse: (I've got this.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-09-24 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, we've proved what we needed to for now.

[Even if it's a tolerable kind of pain, there's no reason to push things too far.]

We can let go of the energy on three again. You'll probably want to drop the bone at the same time, just in case there's feedback. Ready?

[Rather than a verbal countdown, he holds up a hand and puts down one finger at a time. One... two... three.]
    spaceforged: (???)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-26 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[He lets go quickly at three, moving to the side away from Alphonse. At the same time, he releases his connection to the bone. But in his inexperience, he releases his shape change as well. He blinks in surprise and puts his hand on the ground. Unfortunately, the falling bone lands on his metal hand.

What happens next is the purple light bursting into life and the ground under his hand melts into a handprint before he can jerk his arm away.]

...okay. Next time I'll wrap something about my arm.
    Edited 2017-09-26 15:03 (UTC)
    alphonse: (Well that was unexpected.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-09-26 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yikes. Al of all people should have considered the importance of precautions when dealing with magic and such an advanced prosthetic.]

Your arm didn't get damaged, did it?
    spaceforged: (Also this one.)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-27 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's fine. Something like this won't harm it. [Shiro kneels down to inspect the damage to the ground. The bone is far enough away he isn't in any danger of connecting with the energy.]

...I'll just have to be careful when handling bones. Are you alright?
    alphonse: (I've got this.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-09-29 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
    Yeah, I'm fine.

[And since Shiro seems concerned about any damage to the ground...]

If you want to step back, I can go ahead and fix that.
    spaceforged: (insert witty keywords)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-09-29 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[He takes several steps back to let Alphonse do whatever he plans to do. His head is still spinning from the change.]

Alright. [He uses his normal hand to snatch up the Eltos bone so it wouldn't affect anything. He sets it a few feet away.]

It's out of the way. It should be safe now.
    alphonse: (Alchemy time.)

    [personal profile] alphonse 2017-10-02 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[With a clap and a flash of light, he transmutes to the stone to spread back out like the handprint was never there. By now he just assumes people are going to be confused, so before Shiro can ask:]

It's alchemy. Ideally, I'd like to find a way to use the Elto bones with it instead of just magic.
