There's no official OOC account for the Palai people. You're free to roleplay their actions and reactions on your own, as in depth as you want -- asking questions, hand-waved interactions, becoming best friends. The new world is your oyster!

For decades, the Palai have had to deal with the threat of the Uvi invading their homes, killing their families and returning 30 days later. After the coven found their way to Aimintas, the Palai found that the threat wasn't so...threatening. After the last attack, with many more Palai lost as compared to previous Uvi instances, some Palai had lost hope. Now, after seeing their nemesis blown to bits and falling out of the ocean, their faith in safety is restored. While the Uvi are still committed (by and large) to learning more about barriers and other forms of safety, the time for focusing on serious things has passed. It will return, but tonight? They celebrate. Unlike their last, shrimpy festival, this party has a lot more going for it. The Palai have had time to process the events and prepare themselves for a grand celebration. The Palai know how to party, but you ain't seen nothin' like this. A ▢ As a birthday tradition, the Palai give the birthday lizard a special concoction. It contains Elto energy and a combination of found herbs that can easily be located in Aimintas. When these herbs are combined with the Elto energy, they create a sort of...hallucinogenic experience. It's supposed to feel extremely relaxing and give the Palai pleasant visions, but in human bodies it's essentially just getting high. There are vials of these being passed around like candy, so don't worry about anyone running out. B ▢ Despite the adults getting lit, there are obviously a lot of baby Palai on the lose. Responsible coven members who have their own babies will have the ability to let them run wild and play with their lizardy cousins. If you want to spend time with your baby, the nursery caretakers have platters of crackers with mushy foods adorning them -- these are essentially candy to a tiny Palai. They may also be tempted by other foods present at the festivities, but you can avoid them getting a tummy ache if you have a watchful eye. C ▢ Speaking of food, there certainly is a lot of it. There are large grills being heated by the newly found bone structures. These hold shrimp and fish, grilled vegetable skewers and other foods. Instead of the Palai doing the serving, the coven members and other Palai are instead encouraged to utilize their own raw ingredients (which includes several large sharks, dolphins, etc.) in whatever fashion they choose. It's essentially a "build-your-own-kabob" station with no limits. D ▢ Because the party is lasting on into the night, some Elto have decided to light the marketplace with some of the bone structures they found by powering them and inserting them into small cloth bags that they then magically levitate around. While they provide a powerful light source that can increase the party's longevity, they're also floating live wires. Bump into one of these and you'll get a nasty shock! This is doubly concerning since Palai babies are fascinated by following these floating "toys." E ▢ The Palai, feeling more familial and supportive of their ideals than ever, haven't let go of the whole family/romance pushing on the coven. Their newest attempt is a bit of a prank (probably due to high Palais) who have taken magic bone structures and tied thick strings to the spines that poke out of them. At the end of these strings are loops that they're quickly slipping around the wrists of coven members they find. You may find that you're suddenly magically connected to someone -- or two other people if you're lucky enough -- by a magical thread that's VERY hard to slip out of or break. [ well. for a normal human, maybe nines drags them around like a sleepy puppy on a leash, but archer's not a normal human, no matter what he looks like. he's running on fumes, though, so the tug does disrupt his balance a bit, but he pulls back just in time with an equal tug of his own, fidgeting with the string holding them together. he can feel the spark of energy under his fingers, lighting up each circuit — not quite mana, but something similar.

not that any of this information is something he's going to be sharing with this absurdly strong kid, though. he smirks, one hand upturned in a shrug. ]

Haven't you seen string before?

[9S frowns up at the man, although it might as well be a pout on such a young face. Not to mention the fact that he's got to tip his head back to look the man in the eye. One can only surmise that's what he's aiming for, what with his goggles effectively concealing half his face, eyes included]

If this was just string we wouldn't be stuck together.

[He lifts his wrist, though he doubts he really needs to call attention to the thing binding them together. Here he'd been hoping the Palai finally understood how ineligible he was for this coupling business.

Are you certain of that? It seems to be doing a decent job of it at the moment.

[ please, child. pout more. he's seen servants fight in blindfolds, and so this isn't a surprise to him — part of him wonders what 9s does to compensate for the missing sense of sight, but all in all it isn't something he wastes much time or brain power on. instead, his fingers continue to play over the braided cord, tracing and collecting each spark of energy as soon as it begins to pass through his circuits. a slow process, but better than nothing. give him maybe 20 minutes, and he'll have all of it.

[Although 9S doesn't know how or why he's doing it, he does notice the way this man seems to be gathering energy from the cord they're presently bound with. He gives their hands a very pointed look which might suggest as much before his attention's right back on the guy's face.

He doesn't know what he's doing, but he can say one thing]

I wasn't designed with magic in mind.

[And so he knows the cord isn't just a cord. Much like everything else here, in increasing variety, the Palai seem inclined to use Elto energy for a great many purposes. Including whatever silly nonsense they're trapped in now]

Awfully shortsighted of them.

[ archer's hand doesn't pause in collecting the sparks of elto energy, but his gaze lifts from the string to 9S's face, his expression wry and belying the interest in what exactly 9s means. but don't be helpful. ]

Were you designed with the eyewear as well?

[A small, wry smirk tugs at his lips. It's the best he can do to belie the minor offense that arises in him at the thought of his creators being called shortsighted. As with any android, he holds mankind in the highest esteem]

Not in a world were magic is scarce.

[Even so, he's found he can hack things like this. But this man seems to be collecting something from it. He can detect the transference of energy, but nothing at all of the process itself]

My goggles are part of my uniform. [A pause, then:] Despite appearances, they improve my vision.

[ its actually absolutely an excuse, considering how secretive mages are. archer is just an asshole.

the string's given him a bit of power back, just a few drops of water in the dry streambed of his circuits. he could probably do a bit of low intensity combat like this, but its the projection he needs, and that's considerably more expensive... but whatever, we're having a friendly chat with this small not!child.

what on earth could something like googles do to improve vision? they don't appear to be mechanical at all, but then again, the kid doesn't look to be anything but human either. ]

My understanding of it might be a little technical...but they're standard-issue equipment for any YoRHa.

[Well, any YoRHa that were deployed to the field. Operators were another matter entirely, but they have no need of such things. But details. Only he and 2B are in this place and the two of them have the same sort of gear]

As for closed-minded...I don't exactly agree.

[He lifts his free hand, aiming his palm toward the cord that's bound them together. Small volleys of golden light shoot from his hand to the cord and it looses within moments. Though he wasn't made for dealing with magic, it doesn't mean that he cannot]

[ archer blinks, the only sign of his surprise, and catches the cord as it loosens, and then slips off them entirely. he even almost laughs, just an amused exhale and a shake of his head — which, coming from him, counts enough as a laugh. ]

True — mages so often forget that humans have a knack for innovation which renders them obsolete. [ HE'S HUNGRY THO? FEED HIM MAGIC :( ] I don't suppose you preserved any of the magic that was in there, though, did you?

I wouldn't know how to do something like that... [Although given enough time and his natural curiosity, there's the possibility that he could, in time. Just not today] But don't those bones still produce that energy?

[So far as he is able to perceive, at least, that magic is still there. It's strange to think of such a thing as having some biological basis, and yet that makes it a little easier for him to apprehend]

It is — but the raw, unshaped nature of what is in the bones is difficult for me to work with at the moment. Power is one thing, but the form of it... something else entirely.

[ magic resistance d is garbage, but... well, it's enough to let him handle the string magic and not the proper blasts of it from the regular bone. if rin were here, she'd be able to put it in a more useable form, but that's never going to be something he knows or understands how to do. oops. ]

What do you mean by work with it?

[This isn't 9S' area of expertise, not in the slightest, but it is in his nature to help. Likewise, it's in him to be curious, far and above so many other things. So he wants to know why this man is so interested in the cord.

Was it that energy transference he'd picked up on before?]

[ idly, archer begins to loop the cord up on itself, coiling it now that they're both free of the tether. ]

Well, I certainly can't produce my own at this point.

Mm. It's a small miracle I've lasted this long, but I'm becoming tired of... being tired.

I may not know all that much about this sort of thing, but maybe if you explain the principles behind it, I could help you find a solution.
