rootandbranch: (strength enough for me.)

last chance for carefree Aimintas nightlife!

Who: All
Where: The Palai marketplace and surrounding city
When: Day 53, evening
Open/Closed: OTA (Geir's toplevel is here if you want him specifically, otherwise use these prompts for your own purposes! I thought we could all use a place to play with ideas from the weekly announcements.)

[it's been a few days since the latest exciting attempts to take down the island barrier and the even more exciting SPEED DATING extravaganza. the Palai have been working hard to get their city back in good shape after the attack earlier in the month, and now that their mating season has kicked off with such a bang, they're doing as much as they can to maximize it-- no one in the coven has ever seen the marketplace look so bustling and full of wares. perhaps you have the leisure to shop or spend time with someone special this evening?]

A (smells like teen spirit)

[per the mods: "The Palai mating season is still in full swing. During the second week of this season, the Lyna begin creating a special pheromone potion that is traditional as the week winds to a close and Palai begin to make their partnership choices. While the intended targets are the Palai, of course, these hormones also affect humanoid coven members. The effects can range from flushed lightheadedness to unabashed affectionate behavior."

as you wander by a perfume stall, the strangest scent catches your nose, something sweet and dizzying. hopefully no one you'd be embarrassed to have catch you is around to see you stumble... or catch you as you fall. if nothing else, there's a good chance that if they're close enough to catch you, they'll smell it too.]

B (what a beautiful wedding)

[per the mods: "Based on the results of the speed dating log, the Palai will obviously be rooting for unity within the coven. Some "successful" attempts at matchmaking will be noticed by the Palai, who will try their best to convince others to help these pairings along. Post here with a thread you want to volunteer for tribute -- the characters within this thread will have goods devoted to them made by the Palai, and gossip will be started about them in an effort to ~strengthen their bond~. It's the Palai version of shipping, tbh."

in another part of the marketplace, one of the Palai shopkeepers tugs on your sleeve with a wide smile. they offer you a (bad) action figure of one of several incredibly attractive coven members and ask if you've heard the good news about their marriage engagement! it seems that the Palai have watched enough soaps to know how this sort of thing should go.

if you're the subject of one of these works of art, you'll get congratulated instead. do you know any of these characters? if you don't, do you like gossiping about strangers? either way, you're in luck.]

C (don't you want to see these clothes on me)

[maybe you don't like falling in love with or relentlessly teasing your fellow coven members. you still might be interested in impressing them, or in fashion in general. for this very special week only, the Palai who sell clothes in the market are making an unusual effort to include larger items without tail holes for their discerning coven patrons. wares range from sumptuous silks and velvets to perfectly normal clothes of all descriptions, though the latter are harder to find.

because the Palai are hoping to encourage fancy humanoid mating displays by producing these new kicks for their benefactors, everything is available at discounted barter prices. shop with a friend! or just quietly buy something to replace that shameful shirt you've been wearing holes in since you got kidnapped.]

D (all work no play)

[as well as being a place to shop, the marketplace is still one of the best locations in Aimintas to gather, both people and supplies. perhaps this is the time to get in a few conversations with the Palai and each other about character projects like the recent island trip, or setting up a barrier around Aimintas, or anything else that you might have had in mind. there's plenty of Palai around to help out, as well as several shops selling the best weapons and general technology that the locals have available to them. there's also a big pile of junk that coven members brought back from the island in the corner of the market square for the refurbisher merchants to pick through -- this may be a great last shot to put some pieces together.

or you can just pick through the junk pile yourself and find a free cell phone! make your dreams a reality.]

[ jude has to jog just to keep up with sorey and his eagerness. he almost grasps onto the sleeve of his cloak to make it easier, but manages to refrain. ]

So, can you tell you tell me where, exactly, we're going? How do you know where to find Mikleo?
imsorey: (Like I'm alive again)

[personal profile] imsorey 2017-09-12 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[he slows his pace once they reach some of the stalls, peering at each of them like he's looking for something]

I don't exactly know how to get him to come out, but I thought we could bribe him with something interesting. He probably won't be able to resist if I tell him we found something cool. So if we check out the marketplace we're bound to find something.

[his explanation skips right over the fact that he can communicate telepathically with Mikleo, but he's not used to people asking why he's talking to himself and since the coven has the ability to use telepathy to an extent, it seems like a given to him]

Something interesting...

Well, he likes history, doesn't he? Maybe we can find some, I don't know. Stones or something.

[ great idea jude. ]

How did this turn into both of you trying to romantically bait me out? You should ask him what he likes, it's clearly something other than ancient history.

[he's trying to sound miffed but he's TOO AMUSED]
imsorey: (We've got to help each other)

[personal profile] imsorey 2017-09-13 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
If we were being romantic we'd just get you flowers. You've got no one to blame for this but yourself.

[there's a flash of brief huffiness on his face before he very pointedly ignores Mikleo and gives Jude his full attention; if he wants to have a conversation then he can come and have it face to face!!!]

There's more to history than just stones. Historical texts would be pretty worthwhile too. Or, really, anything that would have had cultural significance in a prior era--you can tell a lot about a group of people based on what they valued at the time.

You really know Mikleo well, don't you?

[ jude can't help but smile. really, they should be the ones on a date? ]

Looks like you have a lot in common. I quite like history, myself. It's always fascinating to learn about the generations before your own, isn't it?
imsorey: (The world it's turning inside out)

[personal profile] imsorey 2017-09-18 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[nodding to both questions, even if the first one is rhetorical, it's still accurate. but since Jude pings his inner history nerd he forgets about Mikleo to gush about that instead]

You bet! There's so much that history can teach us, not just about the past, but also about how we want to move into the future. If we don't learn from our previous mistakes we'll just keep making them over and over again. --Not that it's all bad, of course. There are also plenty of great things we can learn from ancient civilizations too.

[ he stifles an affectionate laugh at sorey's blatant enthusiasm. it's rare to see someone this excited about a topic some people consider boring. ]

You sound like a history major. It's endearing.

[ but jude has no idea whether sorey has gone to school or not. he's certainly smart enough to be one. ]

And I completely agree with everything you had to say, by the way.
oneandmikleonly: (a bargain must be made.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2017-09-28 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You're impressing him! You're impressing him! Ask him about his history! He comes form a place where humans live side by side with the spirits, you know?

[okay that's half trolling Sorey and half actual enthusiasm of his own now, oops]
imsorey: (Our souls combined)

[personal profile] imsorey 2017-09-30 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
—Wait, really?

[he says it aloud, but it's in response to Mikleo's commentary rather than to Jude. it takes him a second to re-orient himself]

Sorry, I wasn't...I was talking to Mikleo. He said that you come from a place where humans and spirits live together. Has that always been the case on your world, or was there something that triggered it?
talim: (pic#9332468)

i am so slow rip

[personal profile] talim 2017-10-17 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ so is mikleo, like, third wheeling their date? jude decides it might be better not to ask. sorry, mikleo. ]

That's always been the case. Rieze Maxians are born with something called a mana lobe that enables us to cast artes. As far as I know, it's a wholly unique thing to us. Rieze Maxians use mana lobes as a part of our daily lives, so learning about other worlds without those spirits to feed off of was a completely foreign concept to me.
imsorey: (Now I look back)

[personal profile] imsorey 2017-10-19 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
[mikleo could probably explain it if he wanted to, but he seems more content with poking fun at sorey]

A mana lobe, huh...Do you think there's a way to develop one, or check to see if someone has one and just isn't using it? I don't know a lot about the specifics, obviously, but if that's part of the reason that you can communicate with spirits on your world then I'm interested in learning more.

[personal profile] talim 2017-11-07 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's something you develop... it's just something you have or don't have. Something related to genetics.

But having one and not using it? That's not something I've ever really considered. Maybe it's worth doing some research on, although I'm honestly not sure that anyone's even studied the possibility. The discovery of a world outside Rieze Maxia is still an incredibly recent thing.
