[It's been a quiet few days in Shehui. Life is going on, despite the detention of the Chosen 12--Yeunai is approaching, and there's something about an app called Bondr. Are you being tempted by the Antima trials? Shopping for Yeunai cards to give to your friends? Or is the toll of not knowing where some of your friends and fellow coven members are getting to you?

As for that, the plan to rescue the Chosen 12 from the building where they're being held is ticking along too. There are hushed meetings and telepathic conversations taking place in the apartment building daily--hopefully no one is bugging them, or maybe the planning squad has found a way to deal with that? Members of the coven as a whole have been informed that a rescue operation is ongoing (and ones who were paying careful attention early on will have more details), and to stay close to the outskirts of the city on Day 218. They've also been given the location of a temporary safe area on the edge of the city. The upshot is: prepare to be wanted, and to escape, when all this goes down in a few days.

If you're actually a part of the rescue plan, there are briefings on your role and duties going on the lower floors of the apartment, in the space Geir once inhabited. Even if you're not, there are still things that need to be done: supplies that need to be bought and discreetly moved to the temporary safe location, for one. Everyone has been asked to help with this.

And then, of course, there are the prisoners and the planning squad. How is everyone holding up? Are the interrogations getting worse? Are plans taking shape? How will you spend these last few days in the calm before the storm?]

That depends on what you mean. We can't plan for every possible way this could go wrong.

We should be able to get inside. If not, we can keep knocking out monitors and stealing their identification until something works.

[ he scoffs a little at the hacking comment. not that he doesn't think they can do it, but. karkat and hacking. he doesn't explain why he thinks that's funny. ]

So basically it's keep running through the options if one of the other ones fail? [ ... ] Yeah okay.

I have spent the last several sweeps living off of one haphazard plan after the other, most of which either blew up goddamn spectacularly or veered off course so slowly that you didn't even notice you were about to crash until the plan was two feet away from a burning wall. So, yeah, fuck me for being curious as to exactly how thorough you all were about this.

We're doing the best we can. Was that all you wanted to know?

[It comes out a little more testy than he intended--he's not usually this easy to provoke--but he's stressed.]

You're scared and you're worried about what happens when we fail? Fine, we are too. I'm damn sure everyone in this goddamned coven has failed before and watched the piles body up, and you're full of shit if you pretend you don't know that. But to act like no one else gives a fuck, like we're just throwing ourselves into this without thinking about the consequences? We're not. No one is. We care, and we're trying our best, and we know damn well that if this goes south we're fucked. No one has an air-tight back-up plan because because there is no such thing as an air-tight back-up plan to failing to save your friends from torture! All I did was ask what were the alternate plans were and all of you acted as if I personally stabbed your lusus in the face because of it. How the fuck is me asking what do we do in case we can't get in or something else goes wrong is saying you all don't care? Seriously, explain this to me, you fuckass, because I don't see the correlation here that you seem to be envisioning pretty fucking well! Here, you can even draw it out. Right after you said we'd just take everything down with us, which would include the fucking prisoners. So, guess what bitch, making jokes about just blowing the place up in case we fail isn't that much better. But because the way you worded it was more "proper" then it's okay, right? It's okay if you accidentally upset someone, but if someone else does it, it's the end of the world.

[ he crosses his arms over his chest. ]

Sorry for not realizing you were upset by what I said while you were being a passive aggressive dick about it. Maybe actually say it next time? And while you're at it, maybe try being productive in a conversation instead of just bitching about everyone else's ideas. Or is it too frightening to risk being the one behind a failure again, so you'd rather just let anyone else take the fall and act like you aren't part of it?

[ if dirk didn't say that last part, karkat would have pointed out that he actually agreed with the backup plan that jay explained after he had asked. the "yeah okay" wasn't him being sarcastic, he was, legitimately, saying okay to the plan because he thought it was fair enough.

he'd also probably point out that this is just how he talks. trolls in general can bring up horrible things that happened a little more casually, because they're fairly used to violence. so, no, he didn't mention the temperature thing to be a passive aggressive dick. all of this could be, honestly, easily explained as a giant misunderstanding of nobody here knowing how to read karkat's tone, and karkat not realizing that not everyone copes with stress in the same way he or his other trolls might.

Fuck you. Seriously, fuck you. If you wanted to tell me to use more tact, you could have easily gone, "hey, Vantas, perhaps you should rethink on how you are wording shit right now because it's not working." And I would have gone, "okay, fucking cool, thanks for telling me, bro!" But no. Instead, you decided to throw a shit show and make us the main goddamn event! So yeah, excuse me for getting aggravated that you all were very obviously getting annoyed at me for just wanting more details! But it's not like you care, because all you just want is to do is get your frustrations out on me, which is evident in you bringing up shit that has nothing to do with this!

[The last part was the worst part. The last part was the part Dirk threw out on purpose. Because he's angry, and frustrated, and scared, and Karkat dragged it all out, so he used his instincts on what Karkat felt worst about (what Dirk feels worst about) and he went for the kill.

Prince of Heart, right? Ha. Living up to the title a half-dozen universes sideways to his own reality. Why is he even trying to help anyone? That isn't what he does. This is what he does. This is what he's good for.]

Jay puts his hands on the nearest table, and breathes out.]

He doesn't mention Dirk, because the important part is not peeling off Karkat from the plan, and also because Jay is strongly considering going after Dirk himself.]

--never mind. I suggest we all take five minutes and come back.

Fifteen. [He grabs his book and strides for the door.]

It was five until I got a better idea of the underlying stress levels. [After all the stress lately he needs fifteen himself.]
