whoops
Who: Geir, Vern & you!
Where: Shehui (various)
When: Day 196 (backdated to just before the telepathic fail hijinks)
Open/Closed: Mostly open!
i. setting it up (closed to geir)
[this is it. they've spent days discreetly smuggling a small heap of Palai bones one by one to a public park in a less-busy area of the city. with traffic drawn away from it by the festival, and minimal risk of anyone actually getting hurt, it's time to finish up their plan and place the final bones. one to be the trigger, one as bait for the monitors...
they peer down the street.]
...I think we can go.
ii. kaboom (open)
[and if you're in that sector of the city today, you're likely to hear a thunderclap of noise and see a brilliant flash of light coming from said park. Shehui citizens and visitors around you exclaim and turn to look, and you may see monitors making their way through the streets to the source...
Vern speaks telepathically through the entire coven's signets before the dust of the explosion's even settled, voice clipped and abrupt]
Vern and Geir here. If you're walking the city today, don't go near-- [he names the neighbourhood of the park.] If you're already near it, don't actually go to the park; make sure there are eyewitnesses that you weren't there at this time. You don't know anything about this, you weren't involved. All right?
iii. in the aftermath (open)
[Geir and Vern don't actually get themselves arrested; they're on the ground floor of the coven house as usual that evening, if you want to ask them questions face to face in a reasonably private space. they look kind of pleased with themselves...? mission success?]

[that one filtered through a bit more, apparently; the dragon at least sounds thoughtful as well as sheepish.]
This might make them more suspicious of us, but it shouldn't hurt anybody. I'm trying to watch what they do now.
no subject
I don't even know who you are. I hardly know the details of your plan. I think you can understand why I'm somewhat skeptical when you say it shouldn't hurt anybody.
[ but he doesn't know anyone who can rewind time, and the deed's been done. ]
But the very least you can do is learn something of use from this mess. This time, communicate it in a timely fashion.
no subject
[there's a bit of a humble note in Geir's voice this time... it's a real question. otherwise he'll figure something else out, he guesses.]
no subject
I won't deny I'm interested in whatever information you find, and it would be a more suitable time and place for conversation besides—for you, at least. You'll have to be more specific than "big building", though. Do you mean the apartment?
no subject
[he always has to remember not to call it a hall, even if it's the right size to be one.]
We're on the first floor.
no subject
[ he would probably be able to tell by the entire coven apparently hovering around them, but he doesn't know that yet. ]
no subject
[that's dry, though not in an unkind way; Geir's used to a reaction to that. he sighs.]
I've got the first floor to myself with Vern, so finding us shouldn't be any trouble.
no subject
... Right. In that case, I'll see you when you get back.
[ after he's concluded his other miscellaneous business and time has sufficiently passed, he'll seek them out on the first floor. that is a dragon, isn't it. ]
Goddess, how did the monitors miss you?
[ he's a very polite boy, really. ]
no subject
Geir doesn't seem to mind; he grins tiredly, more appreciative at the caustic commentary than anything else.]
I tossed the last bone in from a distance. And my eyesight and hearing are very good. We took a while to figure out how far I could be away and still see anything useful, before we went ahead...
[he has the remains of some jerky or something between his feet, and he dips his head to take another bite after he speaks. it's not a threatening gesture. he's just worn out and snacky.]
no subject
You ... tossed a bone? [ he laughs, a little. something between a chuckle and a scoff. ] Were you playing fetch with them?
[ the actual explanation is so disappointing compared to fetch, but vern did talk about taking the bait. ]
no subject
[he finishes off the last of his food with a sigh and finishes curling up, the tip of his tail just on top of his nose, rather like a cat's.]
I wanted to set it off from a distance. Extra not-being-found-- I can see in the dark, so.
no subject
after a moment, he wears an expression of realization. ]
So you knew there wasn't anyone around when you set it off. That's far more reassuring than I expected.
[ still not keen on the whole thing, but ... definitely better than two humans haphazardly hoping no one would be hurt. ]
no subject
[Geir lets out a huffy little sigh, though he doesn't move, and blinks mournfully at Jusis. he'd argue with the "harmless" designation, but he certainly doesn't seem bent on harming anyone right now.]
It'll make them more suspicious for sure, but they were grilling us anyway. I don't feel that bad about it. Maybe a little bad.
no subject
at geir's last comment, he crosses his arms. ]
You certainly should feel at least a little bad. I maintain you should have given prior warning to the rest of the coven, though I hardly think I need to speak on that point further. Right now, I'd like to hear your plan for the aftermath. The best case is, of course, the monitors being none the wiser about our involvement, or failing to act upon it, but surely you anticipated a worst case as well.
[ please. tell him under that optimism, there's an actual failsafe here. ]
no subject
The worst case is they'll start questioning us a lot more, or even kick us out. If we need to, Vern and I will just tell them we did it. I'd almost rather let them question us and see if we can figure out what they're after from the questions, though.
No one had a worst case scenario for us getting kicked out in the next couple of weeks anyway, though. At least not that anyone ever told me. So... that's something to think about.
no subject
Even so, a plan that has a higher chance of expediting our expulsion isn't something to take lightly. [ a heavy sigh. he feels like he's beating a dead horse, but miscommunication on this level is really bad for morale. ]
As you may have noticed already, I only arrived recently. I'm hardly in a position where I can make educated guesses on our punishment over anyone who has been here longer. Still, I find it somewhat naive to think they would simply accept that only two individuals were responsible when they seem wary of the entire coven.
Nonetheless, I am glad to hear you would attempt to take responsibility.
no subject
[Geir lifts his chin. he's willing to accept that they might have done the wrong thing, but he has his pride, too.]
There's no taking it back now.
no subject
You aren't wrong. [ a pause for consideration. ] In the future, I'd like to think we could have productive conversations about something like this. I still don't agree with the method, but the concept behind it was solid. [ that's as close to a compliment as he can get.
jusis is very much used to everyone agreeing on a method before acting on it, but he knows that's less possible the larger a group is. his brow furrows. ]
I don't think it's realistic to expect everyone to condone a plan of action here, but hearing perspectives one hasn't already considered can be beneficial to making a plan that's fairer to everyone. If a platform for discussion already exists without concrete action, perhaps a second one specifically focused on the inevitability of action could be created.
no subject
...I'd like that. And, maybe everyone in the first group could agree on when things would get bad enough that the second group would step in?
I'm no good at organizing things like that, but I'd try to help!
no subject
If we could make such a thing happen, I think it would be a decent middle ground. It won't be easy, though: building trust is essential and can't be rushed. [ especially if the coven is already side-eyeing geir and vern. ] All the more reason I would appreciate your assistance. You've been with the coven far longer than I have, and you can gauge the attitudes of other members based on your experiences today.
no subject
that's... not reassuring, exactly! it means that you have a large, powerful presence who's distractable. but on the other hand, he's not at all unwilling to be brought back to the fold.]
Mostly, everyone has seemed grumpy about anyone doing anything the whole time we've been here. Even Brie told us not to try anything because she liked the food.
It'd be good it if everyone made decisions together, though. It's a nice thought.
no subject
brie is ... one of the elder coven members, as he recalls. he grimaces. ]
Goddess—she must have been joking. No one could accept living in these conditions for good food.
[ please. the coven's organizational skills are already clearly in disrepair, but what little faith he has left in standing leadership depends on this.
... then again, he can probably think of at least two people who might accept a grim fate for good food, so you know what. ]
no subject
[Geir wouldn't call the two original coven members "leadership" by any stretch, even if Genette's made some spasmodic attempts at it now and then. if it wasn't for Genette's relationship with Qri, he's not sure he would even give her any points for being an authority figure at all.]
no subject
I think I can understand where your frustration stems from.
[ actually, speaking of brie and genette ... ]
Have either of them responded to what happened this evening?
[ he doesn't envy them for being unwillingly thrust into a seniority position, but he would expect them to be more useful than they seemingly are. ]
no subject
I guess it's up to us, now!
