[It's tough to live on an island that doesn't have many resources outside of the limited food sources and running streams. While Brie is aware of some other minor sources of food, like fish and frogs, one person exploring an island on their own means there are a lot of secret spots left to uncover. Despite adventuring for three years, her time on the hub itself has been much shorter, only staying for days or weeks at a time. Now that there are more people on this journey, covering ground is a lot easier.

Recently she's discovered another large estate -- much larger than her current shared mansion, which might also mean it has some supplies inside. On the morning of Day #, she's called together those who are hankering for more supplies in order to bring as much back as possible. Congrats, you get first dibs.

A. Upon approaching the house, the first thing that's noticeable is its size. It's all one story, but very flat and spacious. There are gardens in both the front and the rear, and upon entering (Brie might have enlisted you to help break the door down, oops) the inside is also quite vast. There are tons of rooms, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, two kitchens and other rooms that aren't even explorable because they need keys to be entered. Unless you can find these keys, that is?

B. Alternatively, or maybe even aside from exploring the house, Brie's also suggested that you do some exploring on your own. Again, she's one woman with limited time to scout the island herself. What can you find? What resources are there to be harvested? Will you share in this bounty, or keep it to yourself?]

That depends on what those are. I don't think we have them in my world.

[But he can pick locks, yes.]

[p_mortem]

Bent pieces of metal wire.

[ Which he hopes Jay knows what it is. But not paperclips? ...Paper? ]

How do you keep stacks of paper together?

[rebells]

. . . Paperweights? Folders?

[Oh, is that what paperclips are for.]

In any case, probably, if they're sturdy enough. Why, do you have some . . . paper clips?

[p_mortem]

No. But I have spiral notebooks. You can have some spiral.

[ He imagines it'd work out the same; he turns to dig through his tiny new kid's backpack and pulls out one of the notebooks and starts undoing the wire to... bend back and forth until it snaps or something idk, but it's reasonably sturdy and he hands it over ]

[rebells]

[He watches Minato maneuver the spiral with some interest--they likely don't have spiral notebooks in Melfes, either. In any case, he takes the wire and straightens it out, then snaps it in two.

He frowns at it thoughtfully, then starts forming it into one straight piece and one hooked piece of wire.]

Yeah. Pages are blank though. It was in the bag, with some crayons and toys.

[ He also shrugs his shoulder that has the backpack slung over it. Stealing little kids' school supplies, that's what his life's come to. ]

[rebells]

Toys, hmm? Well, that's not ominous.

[But lockpicking! He slides the hooked piece in and turns it like you would a key, then begins fiddling at the keyhole with the straight piece.

. . .

It takes a few tries, but eventually the door clicks open.]

[p_mortem]

...Cool.

[ Better than stealing a door and then having to find somewhere to set it because the hinges no longer hold it up. ]

Wonder if there's anybody inside.

[ Because usually doors are locked from the inside... Then again, the house looks pretty old. ]

[rebells]

I think, all things considered, we'd better hope not.

[He opens the door! Inside is a dark storage room with lots of crates and boxes piled haphazardly on top of one another.]

Ah.

Not exactly exciting, but I suppose we should see what we can find in here.

[p_mortem]

[ Maybe they'll find some wizened master of the island who can help guide them. Or a corpse, who knows. It's hard to see in the darkness, so Minato is slow to step into the room. Once he does, he heads straight for those boxes, and barely glances at them before jumps on top and starts climbing for a sweeping view of the entire room. ]

[rebells]

[ . . . well, okay, Minato. You do that. Jay will be here picking through boxes of clothes and random household goods at a more sedate pace.]

[p_mortem]

[ Eventually Minato sits on top of his throne of boxes, eyes adjusting to the darkness. From up there he picks up the box next to him to sit on his lap, effectively destroying his stairway back down, but that's okay. ]

...bunch of pots and pans. [ but not anymore; Minato confiscates these ] Think we could use a spatula?

[rebells]

If we're using pots and pans, then probably. I don't know that we have anything other than boar meat to cook at the moment, though.

[He pulls a large tote bag out of one of the boxes and slings it over an arm, continuing to pick through the storage.]

[p_mortem]

Crab meat. [ Which they'll get sick eating, but it's still food and maybe they're just eating the wrong parts of it, like pufferfish. ]

There's a garden at the front of the house. Didn't check for anything edible growing, though.

[rebells]

Ah, there was, wasn't there? The girl with the plant diary will be happy about that, if she's here.

[He remembers her name perfectly well, but that's what he's calling her for now.]

[p_mortem]

Who's the girl with the plant diary?

[rebells]

Her name was Haru. A little taller than me, short brown hair. She was planning a garden.

[She also probably thought he was kind of creepy, but oh, well. It Happens.]

[p_mortem]

Haru...

[ He recognizes her from the physical description, even if he's thrown off initially by the thought of gardens. ]

I've met her. We killed a boar together.

[rebells]

Oh? To be honest, she didn't seem like the boar-killing type.

[p_mortem]

She knocked it down, and I killed it. She's stronger than she looks, I think.

[ He'd spent much of his first encounter with her saying that he'd fight alone, but she insisted on helping and he's glad she did. ]

[rebells]

Interesting. I'll remember that.

[This is why she thinks you're weird, Jay.]

[p_mortem]

[ It'd be good to remember. Minato's been doing some of that too, trying to figure out who of them here he can look to for fighting in case of an emergency, and who has never fought before, shouldn't need to fight, and he can protect.

He sets his box down and starts making his way back to ground level. ]

Find anything that gives us more information?

[ Supplies and such they can take back later at their own pace; the first sweep of the house should be to learn what they can. ]

[rebells]

No. Just a lot of clothes and some household things.

It seems like there were children living here, but I think we already knew that.

[Also it's a little disturbing to think about what happened to them.]

[p_mortem]

...It's all packed up in boxes. Could be that they grew up and left.

[ Are disappearing adults better than disappearing children? He's just trying to be optimistic, but the conviction doesn't show in his voice or face. ]

[rebells]

. . . it's possible. I don't think we'll figure out what happened here just by looking through people's things, anyway.

[His tone of voice says he doesn't think it was good, though.]
