[Copper, lizards, and vines - oh my! With the recent installation of 9S and co.'s scanning equipment and the also recent, significantly wetter rainstorms there's quite a lot to check out on the island right now. ~~Plus, the monitor robot still needs a name. You're not going to leave them nameless forever, are you?~~

Too bad Genette's put out word that everyone's about to be moving location soon. That means these are the last days the coven has for a little while to get everything in order, whether it's to take things to the next destination or to leave them behind. Get your bags packed and your huts cleaned, everyone!]

a. adventurous lizards

[Word of the band-aid lizards travels fast, and upon the discovery of the pod Sorey's curioriosity naturally leads him to investigate further. It doesn't take long to make his way east, but actually finding the lizards is a different story. A few hours of searching rock after rock doesn't leave him with much but sore muscles.

Still, he is nothing if not determined, and eventually his efforts lead to results: a little lizard darts out from under a large rock Sorey manages to yank up. It runs away from him, though, and he looks up and gives a shout to the nearest passerby who is also, most likely, looking for lizards.]

b. books books books

[When he's not running around outside, though, Sorey can be found holed up in the library. He's settled himself in a warm patch of light by a window, several messy stacks of books spread out around him in what doesn't seem to be any particular order. Even the sound of movement doesn't cause him to pause and look up if anyone approaches; he just keeps scribbling down notes as he flips through pages.

You could leave him be, or you could scare the crap out of him.]

[Let me know if there's something in particular you'd like to play out! Sorey can also reasonably be found doing laundry, packing essentials for their inevitable trip, and making inedible things in the kitchen.]

[ jude peers over sorey's shoulder, quiet for a moment before he speaks. he doesn't want to startle him., but it's very much possible that he can't avoid that... ]

What are you up to, Sorey?

[ jude is always holed up in the library, himself. ]

[he does still startle, the words on his page turning into a scribble as he jumps and half turns to get a look at Jude]

--Jude! When did you get here? --Sorry, I was trying to translate and must have lost track of the time...

I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to startle you.

[ he raises his hands up in the air and defense before his lips twitch into a half-smile. ]

Trying to translate?

You know...

[ he hums. ]

... the magic I was given is automatic text translation. Maybe it's not as exciting as some of the other possibilities, but I can ready every book in this library. Want me to help?

[he reaches over to grab Jude's shoulders, metaphorical sparkles in his eyes at this marvelous revelation. have you ever seen Sorey this happy? probably, but look, he's really excited about this.]

You can do that?! Every book? Have you tried reading them all?

[ jude jumps a little, but it's not long before his slender shoulders are shaking with laughter. sorey is just so... sorey. there's no other word to describe him. ]

Every book. I haven't read them all, but I've gone through a pretty sizable amount. Maybe I should have shared this with you sooner...

It's not like I mentioned that I was interested in translating all of these, so you couldn't have known. That magic you've got is pretty useful! Mine is only handy occasionally, but I guess it just depends on how you use it.

Do you know if there are any history books in here? I was hoping to start with translating a few of those.

[ the library is pretty unorganized, but with a little digging jude manages to gather up a short stack of books for sorey. ]

Here. Will these do? They were lost in the middle of all the fantasy novels.

[they could be cheesy romance novels for all he can tell, okay. still, he looks relieved to know for certain that there are some history books in the library somewhere, regardless of the exact content.]

That'll work just fine! I figured that they might not be a history of this island, but they might still contain some information we're looking for. A confirmation of what Qri's been saying, you know?

Yeah. We could certainly use it. Any information on the history and culture here is a precious resource. I'm glad you've been so invested in finding those answers.

It hasn't gotten me too far yet, but it's been something to keep me occupied. It would almost feel like a waste to not take in as much knowledge from other worlds as possible while we're here, you know?

[jude already knows he's a nerd this shouldn't be surprising]

[ Eleanor's taking it upon herself to try - keyword being try - to find what she can about this world despite the fact that they'll be leaving soon. She can't seem to find what she's looking for, but she does stumble on the pile that Sorey has built. ]

Excuse me. [ She says softly, trying to get his attention. ]

[it still startles him, a little; he jumps and his pen scratches across his notes in a little line that should have been a word. but he recovers quickly and gives her a smile]

Oh--uh, hi. Sorry, I didn't hear you come in. What's up?

... Oh, no. It's alright. I'm sorry to disturb you. [ She offers an apologetic smile. ] I'm actually looking for some books to try to do some research with, and... I was wondering if you had any that you weren't using right now.

Oh, sure! I'm just using this one, so you're free to grab any of the rest of them.

[he gestures to the book he has pulled closest to him, perched precariously on one knee from his earlier start. the "rest" of the books aren't exactly easy to differentiate from one another, since he can't read most of them.]

I'm not having a ton of luck with research myself, though; a lot of these books aren't in a language that I can understand. I've been trying to translate them.

That makes sense, all things considering. [ What, with them being in a new world and all. ] I assume that there's no pictures to go by either, then?

Some of the books do have pictures, actually! Let me see...

[he sets his book aside and starts digging through another pile, flipping through a few pages and passing her two books. one of them has pictures of various kinds of plants on some pages, and the other has detailed studies of architecture.]

Those ones have been helping me translate; you can tell from the pictures what kind of books they're supposed to be, so it's easiest to try and piece things together from them.

[ She looks over the books, slowly smiling. If Laphicet were here - there's no doubt that he'd be fascinated by all of this. ]

I see. I think I know what you mean. It still looks a little difficult to make sense of it, but... that's a good start.

[Laphicet has good taste in books 1 out of 1 Soreys would agree]

It might not be the best to do any kind of research with, but hopefully it's still worth your time. Is there anything in particular that you were looking for?

Any that you would recommend taking a look at would be great start.

[ She offers a smile. He does seem to know what he's talking about. ]

The ones you can read are going to be your best bet. Just to start, anyways.

[he says it a little wryly; there aren't too many books in the library that he can read, and most of them just contain the same information that Genette has produced for them in their arrival letter. Hence resorting to translating the other books there, with varying luck. but he manages to pull one out of the pile and hands it to her as well.]

There's a lot here, so I don't know how much my recommendations would help. But I can find a few more for you if you don't think that's enough.

It sounds as though you've made time to look through most of the books here. [ Would someone be able to do that in a short amount of time? There's been so much to do. ]
