[So you may have gotten a telepathic message a few days ago about an expedition to map the coastline . . . or maybe you were invited along by a friend. Whatever the reason, it's bright and early this morning, and it's time to set out!

Characters would have gotten a further telepathic message from Jay with a date and time to meet outside the shacks. They'll be heading east along the "shore," tracking the coast, and then heading directly back towards base camp . . . who knows what they'll find along the way?]

[His eyes flicker to the frogs.]

I wouldn't think it's worth the risk.

[He takes a look at the reed Jay cut down, testing out its flexibility.]

Woven or shaped into tools. It would be good to keep an eye on the growth rate so we understand how to use our supply.

[rebells]

No, perhaps not. Still, I expect someone will try it sooner or later.

[They really don't have to be that someone, though.]

Yes, it wouldn't do to use them up. Do you have any experience with this kind of crafting? I'm afraid I don't.

[He's got a little mechanical know-how, and a little wilderness knowledge, but not this.]

Not really. There weren't reeds like this where I grew up.

[He bends the reed further, and stops just before it'd be about to fray.]

It could probably be woven tight enough for roofs and the like without too much effort.

[rebells]

[He nods.]

That was my first thought, too, although the shacks by the beach seem like adequate housing for now.

[splinten]

We'll see if that holds in the future. It might be a good idea to get some of these reeds and weave some mats or something, both for future use and just to see how the reeds handle and regrow.

[rebells]

Do you think it rains here? Or that we get weather?

[More musing than anything else, really. He toys with the reed a bit.]

I didn't think there would be a day-night cycle, so at this point I'm of the opinion, "Sure, why the fuck not."

[A day-night cycle. These weird instances of running water. The continued presence of life despite the necessary infrastructure for a proper ecosystem. Why the fuck not rain.]

[rebells]

[A snort.]

Come to think of it, if there are plants actively growing here, it probably does rain. Do we know how long this place has been like this?

[splinten]

No, and we don't have enough information to extrapolate on our own. We're best asking Brie directly as the oldest of the pair.

[rebells]

And we don't know if she knows, even.

[He sighs. This floating space-island would be an interesting puzzle if there wasn't quite so much at stake.]

. . . well, better her than Genette. She might at least think to ask the questions.

[splinten]

You got that impression of Genette too.

[That she was big on acting out of Faith here. Super devoted to Qri.]

[rebells]

That she wasn't terribly inclined to question--well, much of anything? It was hard not to, honestly.

[splinten]

She didn't even question whether Qri would be in danger by coming near us in the caravan.

[rebells]

Really?

[He quirks a smile.]

Did you touch it? I admit I was tempted, myself.

[splinten]

I questioned her order not to and she scolded me. When she explained Qri was there, I stopped.

[There's something about the way that suggests this time. Dirk is very bad at letting dictates from authority decide how he acts.]

Genette apparently prefers face-to-face communications on the grounds that it's more honest.

[rebells]

As opposed to telepathy, I assume?

Does she communicate face-to-face with Qri? I didn't get that impression.

[splinten]

[He confirms the first part with a nod and continues,]

She communicates with Qri through telepathy. Qri apparently told her to bring her caravan there when she was handing out objects.

[rebells]

Did she ask why . . . .

[He's guessing she wanted to get a good 'look' at them or something, but that's not the point.]

[splinten]

What do you guess.

[She did Not.]

[rebells]

[A sigh.]

I honestly don't know how someone can go through life being that incurious.

[splinten]

Being trained to it, probably. There is a general advantage to an unquestioning mentality for domineering rulers.

[rebells]

. . . you might have a point. Her world seems like it was rather--rigid.

[splinten]

[He gives a nod.] Brie's from a different culture and seems more inclined to questions.

[rebells]

And to arguments.

[But that's amused rather than dismissive--better arguing than unquestioned acceptance, after all.]

But I haven't gotten to talk with her much yet.

I've only talked to her a bit. It'd be interesting to hear her perspective on the situation in more detail.
