[So you may have gotten a telepathic message a few days ago about an expedition to map the coastline . . . or maybe you were invited along by a friend. Whatever the reason, it's bright and early this morning, and it's time to set out!

Characters would have gotten a further telepathic message from Jay with a date and time to meet outside the shacks. They'll be heading east along the "shore," tracking the coast, and then heading directly back towards base camp . . . who knows what they'll find along the way?]

[A sigh.]

I honestly don't know how someone can go through life being that incurious.

[splinten]

Being trained to it, probably. There is a general advantage to an unquestioning mentality for domineering rulers.

[rebells]

. . . you might have a point. Her world seems like it was rather--rigid.

[splinten]

[He gives a nod.] Brie's from a different culture and seems more inclined to questions.

[rebells]

And to arguments.

[But that's amused rather than dismissive--better arguing than unquestioned acceptance, after all.]

But I haven't gotten to talk with her much yet.

[splinten]

[Dirk agrees.]

I've only talked to her a bit. It'd be interesting to hear her perspective on the situation in more detail.

[rebells]

Yes. There's a great deal I wish we knew more about. Even if it's just the official story Qri's telling.

[splinten]

Has anyone tried communicating with her telepathically?

[rebells]

. . . I haven't.

[And by the tone of his voice, he's a little surprised he hasn't thought of that.]

I haven't heard of anyone else trying, either.

[splinten]

It's probably worth trying. I'd say there's no harm in it, but we have no idea if that's true.

[From the tone in his voice, Dirk is perfectly willing to go for it anyway.]

[rebells]

If just trying to talk to her is going to get us in trouble, then we were in trouble anyway. Were you thinking of trying now?

[splinten]

If I get telepathically struck down for my temerity, you can break my fall.

[rebells]

I'll be sure to catch you.

[Said with a straight face.]

[splinten]

[Dirk reaches out with a,]

Yo, Qri, you here?

[He lets Jay in on the telepathic communication, but there is no response]

[rebells]

[He waits for several long moments, just to be sure that no reply is coming.]

. . . well. I suppose either she isn't, or she won't deign to speak with us.

[splinten]

The second possibility feels pretty rude. But maybe she's a jackass.

[It is possible.]

[rebells]

Well, she did magically kidnap us and leave us on an abandoned island in the middle of space.

[splinten]

Fair.

[rebells]

. . . in any case, I suppose we'll have to find other methods of figuring out what's really going on. Or we could wait and see.

[But he doesn't sound like he likes that idea much.]

[splinten]

[Look, Dirk can be patient but.

There's a lift of his eyebrows behind his shades. He is pretty sure Jay is as keen on the idea of just waiting around as Dirk is.]

Any ideas other than pressin' Brie for information?

[rebells]

[He tips his head back, clearly thinking.]

We should keep talking to both of them, obviously. Compile information on who was brought here, and what powers they were given, to see if there's any patterns. Try to find out more about the nature of these. [He motions to his signet.] Wake Qri up somehow. Storm the caravan and ransack it for clues.

That last one should probably be held in reserve.

[splinten]

And here I thought the extreme end would be the best place to start.

[He gives a nod, though.]

Information on people and their powers is helpful regardless. Sorey and Mikleo were speculating that the powers might have a connection to who we are, but they couldn't be sure.

[rebells]

[He smiles, but doesn't otherwise respond to that first comment.]

Yes, I did hear that theory from Mikleo. [There's an air of annoyance around him suddenly, not directed at Dirk, just how he gets whenever he has to think about his own power.] I don't see an obvious connection between myself and mine, but I suppose I could be missing something.

[splinten]

[That naturally makes him curious.] What do you have? [It seems like it's annoying him, which makes Dirk more curious.]

[rebells]

[A pause.]

. . . I can "project my emotions" onto other people by touching them.
