[So maybe you were invited along on this expedition by Jay or a friend. Maybe you heard a telepathic message a couple days ago looking for people with scouting and mapping skills and answered the call. Maybe you just happened to be in the area. Whatever the reason, there's a small group of people and dragons assembling on the beach near the huts, and Jay appears to be in the center of it, checking that everyone he's expecting is accounted for.

They'll be going by air to map the near western coastline and circling back around to camp, touching down every so often to look for landmarks and other potentially useful areas on the way. You're welcome to come along, if you can bargain yourself space on dragonback.]

I don't see why there wouldn't be one. There ought to be a lot of places a cave could form, in a mountain.

If there isn't, maybe someone here has the power to make one... I really want a place to get out of all this rain. It was okay in Aimintas, but enough is enough.

Yeah, we can't really fit you in those little houses. You could wear one like a hat.

I do like being underground or underwater, when there's a way out! I didn't realize that till we were in Aimintas. I thought I just hated it, but it was strange not to ever have someplace like that to go.

...it's too bad there's not much ocean here for you...we might be more likely to find a tunnel network, though.

Don't worry, a cave will be enough! I don't need that much underground. They're just nice to look out of... does that make sense?

[he does, though he doesn't quite have the words for it. he parses it in terms of looking up at the sky from the deep nest of Geir's enormous coils, though, and that's similar enough that he makes the right mental association for once.]

[he uses telepathy to send Vern his mental image of Vern climbing up the rest of his nose and sliding down his neck to his back like a child rolling down a hill. that would be very silly.]

[Geir SIGHS DEEPLY, as if it's a terribly hard request, but a moment later he lowers his head again and lays it on his wing so Vern can climb off onto his back easily.]
