[OPENING] magical training log

Who: Brie, whichever newbies want to show up.
Where: The beach.
When: Day 4
Open/Closed: OTA

[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

A ghost story? [She cocks her head to the side.] Ok sure. Just make sure it's a good one, or I'll call you out on it.

Tough customer. Not to worry, I dabble with full-on creepy if the supernatural doesn't do; I'm no Dante, but I like to think I'm quite good.

[ he extends a hand. ] Better hold on to me.

[she peers down at his hand with a 'hm']

You don't have sweaty palms, right?

[ giorno shrugs. ]

See for yourself.

[She grimaces.]

Fine. [And so she just... pokes a finger at his palm to test it before putting her hand flat over his.]

[ it's dry! and giorno takes a minute or two to think about a story, which has the added creepy factor of just staring at each other and literally just holding hands while he was quiet, and then he starts telling one, after a while: ]

It's hard to think up of stories, alright.

Anyway, here's one:

Four story building: there's an internet cafe on the first floor, a salon on the second floor that's permanently under construction - abandoned, really, there's no way of going in there at all even from the stairwell, it's sealed off - and offices on the third and fourth floor. A man walks to the elevator on his way home. He hits the ground floor, and waits.

The elevator has four buttons: 1, 2, 3, and 4. Because the second floor has been abandoned and there's lots of scaffolding and construction debris all over, the button for the 2nd floor doesn't work; it just skips the floor. It's been like that for a while.

It's late in the evening. The elevator is small. It makes its slow descent from the fourth floor to the ground floor when it stops in between floors.

The doors open to the second floor.

All that light came from the elevator. In the dim light, the man sees a figure jerking, moving like a spider, with long, elongated legs and a hissing, shuffling sound, moving through the floor at high speed.

Frightened, the man hits the button to shut the doors. And that's when the lights go dark.

The doors close.

The elevator comes to life, slowly goes to the ground floor. The man stumbles out in a hurry, pale as a sheet. The receptionist for the cafe, who saw him, asked him what was wrong. He was about to tell him when he saw his shadow.

Two figures, and long limbs. He fled from the building.

[ after a pause, he says, ] That's all I got.

[She's just... grimacing at him while he holds her hand and almost loses patience. Thankfully he begins so she remains where she is. Yet when he's done telling it... it's strange. The story didn't really sound scary, but something odd is happening to her body. Fast heart palpitations, her skin gets bumps, and suddenly she feels really... anxious. That's the right word.

She swallows and lets go of his hand, rubbing it silently for a moment.
]

That wasn't scary at all.

[It wasn't, but why does she feel like she listened to something far worse?]

[ giorno smiles. he takes in the pauses she makes and understands it to be a reflection of success, but he won't comment on that for now. he slips his hands into his pockets, and shrugs. ]

I'll work on it more. I've got plenty of time to burn in this island.

As for whether or not it'll be real - let's say that because there are no elevators here, zero. But closed and cramped spaces are always a problem to be trapped in no matter the time and place, so be careful.

[ the last bit is actually just a thing added for fun, and not part of his powers at all, but it's still part of his mission. since he has to make people uncomfortable, and all. ]

I don't need your warnings! [She says a little too aggressively, as if on the defense. His smile makes her mad.] The only time you need to be worried about a closed space is if you're in there with an enemy. If you're alone, a cramped space is nothing to fear.

[ ... huh, what happened. giorno frowns. this isn't the usual reaction he gets; on the other hand, it's also what he'd expect from someone like abbacchio or something for breathing or existing. so at the moment, he's evaluating her based on these extremes: what's natural versus what was elicited from his powers. what an awkward space. ]

Alright, you don't need it. All the same, it's part of the deal - the story and the prediction.

Are you a fighter?

[Unfortunately Giorno picked a subject who is not accustomed to the typical spectrum of emotions. The only times she feels "anxious" or "afraid" is when a battle is raging on. She's had no reason to feel it otherwise in her existence, and so she associates it with "fight or flight" instinctively.

She's not running off, so she's already fighting. It's just not a physical battle, but one against her mental state.
]

Yes, I am. A good one too, so don't think about messing with me.

[He hasn't, of course, not that she knows about his power and what he did. However, she never assumes people won't be enemies. And in this current state, she isn't quite being rational about it.]

[ hooo. that kind of shows to him what he's dealing with, so he shakes his head in reply. ]

I kind of just did. It's not permanent.

I'm a fighter, as well, but I'm not here to fight, the point is to demonstrate my odd magical ability which I can't control much yet. [ hands up in front of him. ] I'm not looking to go for a second round.
