[It's about noon on the island, based on the position of the sun. The newbies have had a few days to settle in, but that doesn't mean they've fully mastered their newfound abilities.

As much stock as Genette puts into telepathy, Brie is more concerned about their other newfound gifts. She's aggressively tried to wrangle as many newbies as possible onto the sandy shores of the beachfront area for some magic practice.

She's got a list of everyone's magic -- only a few vague notes, limitations are for you to discover -- and she's handing out missions for magic training. If you want to participate? Feel free. If you don't? Suit yourself.

But understanding your magic isn't just an activity that benefits the group. Learning your magic's abilities may be what stands between you and survival, which is something she makes perfectly clear.]

[The carousel does spin, though not very fast. Seeing Dave with an actual smile is enough for John to be very pleased with his handiwork and he's just letting the thing sit between them on the sand.]

A mobile. [It's just a correction out of nowhere.] I bet we could probably ask Rose to make us something so we can fuse it together and make it light up or play music or something. It won't do much good, but it's pretty neat. I think I am getting a little better at directing the fusions the way I want them. This wasn't exactly perfect, but it's better than I thought! And your drawings were even which helped, too.

[Well. Honestly? It's not like he wasn't thinking of Dave when he made the dumb thing so he shrugs a little.]

Sure. If you want it, it's yours. I think this also kind of counts as part of my mission from Brie anyway. [Suddenly his eyes light up just a touch.] You know what would be awesome? Somehow fusing it with your song. And some lights? We could probably add a few more chains to it if we wanted.

Maybe if I wrote the song down in sheet music?

That might be a good step...maybe if we wrote it down and had Rose sew a bar of music into some yarn, I could fuse it into the stars themselves so that when they spun they would play. It's a big idea and there's no guarantee that is how it would work, but I think part of my power really focuses on concentration.

[He notes the expression, too. He doesn't know what to make of it, but he's learning to read Dave's face even with his shades on.] It wouldn't be a bad idea to write it down anyway if the rest of us are going to play it someday.

Definitely. We have enough time to waste on stuff we actually want to do so I don't mind trying later. [It'll be good for them, maybe. But then he remembers why they're here.] What was your assignment from Brie?

Crossbow, backpack, bag of chips. I think she mostly wanted doritos.

Did you actually give her a crossbow, and should I be worried about that?

Yeah, I mean, I made one. The firin' mechanism doesn't work though since I...do not know how the fuck a crossbow works in full?

That is probably a good thing. At least until we know if Brie would use the crossbow on us or not? [Not that he thinks that's true, but nobody can be too careful after everything.] I think they sort of work like guns.

I know how guns work, I'm just like...I think if I sat down and thought about it, maybe? But most of my expertise is on modern weaponry and also, blades.

The drawings can take a certain lack of detail and fill in the works, but only if I actually know how it does work. Like...a bag of chips. I can draw the bag and chips will be inside, right? But I can't draw a box and write, like "flu medicine" on it because it's a different kinda concept, if that makes sense?

So you could draw like Jade's rifle or one of your shitty katanas and it would manifest, but something that's made up of parts that you don't have exact measurements for won't work. And here I was wondering if you really had limits. It makes sense. I just wonder if it is something you could work on getting better the more we learn about stuff.

They aren't all shitty, fuck you. [ yeah they were. bro didn't believe in arming the opposition well? ] But yeah, I got limits. I have to know how shit works or what it does to really do it well. Like...I know what a plane looks like? But I am not fully informed on how the fuck they do what they do, so I think any plane I drew would just be a figurine, unless it were remote controlled which I am a little more sure of?

A kite isn't as cool as an airplane though. But we could make it one of those neat ones shaped like jellyfish. [Easily distracted sure is the right word.]

One that lights up maybe? [ an amused snort. SO EASILY DISTRACTED. ]

That would be pretty cool, yes. Maybe I can fuse it with the Christmas lights or something. Maybe we will flag down more space worms or aliens or something.

Even if they are stoner worms we should probably try to learn more about them. Especially if it will tell us more about the island by observing them.
