Who: Explorers and Co.
Where: Around the island and at the newly discovered house

Note: Feel free to create your own logs for individual island explorations. A prompt is for house exploring, and you can list off multiple A prompts like A1, A2, etc. for more than one prompt within the house. B prompts (B1, B2, etc) are for exploring the island and may be open to all OR select friends who your character is exploring with.

[It's tough to live on an island that doesn't have many resources outside of the limited food sources and running streams. While Brie is aware of some other minor sources of food, like fish and frogs, one person exploring an island on their own means there are a lot of secret spots left to uncover. Despite adventuring for three years, her time on the hub itself has been much shorter, only staying for days or weeks at a time. Now that there are more people on this journey, covering ground is a lot easier.

Recently she's discovered another large estate -- much larger than her current shared mansion, which might also mean it has some supplies inside. On the morning of Day #, she's called together those who are hankering for more supplies in order to bring as much back as possible. Congrats, you get first dibs.

A. Upon approaching the house, the first thing that's noticeable is its size. It's all one story, but very flat and spacious. There are gardens in both the front and the rear, and upon entering (Brie might have enlisted you to help break the door down, oops) the inside is also quite vast. There are tons of rooms, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, two kitchens and other rooms that aren't even explorable because they need keys to be entered. Unless you can find these keys, that is?

B. Alternatively, or maybe even aside from exploring the house, Brie's also suggested that you do some exploring on your own. Again, she's one woman with limited time to scout the island herself. What can you find? What resources are there to be harvested? Will you share in this bounty, or keep it to yourself?]

[He's grown used to keeping an eye out for his friends. It's second nature now and a sign of him growing as a leader, doing his best to track his team and know their whereabouts.

That's why it's only after checking the house and noticing that Dave's gone that John leaves. It's by sheer accident that he finds himself approaching the lagoon but it's not hard to notice that this was the place he was looking for. The lagoon itself is almost pretty, actually, so when he approaches he doesn't even say anything to Dave. There's a slight smile when his friend looks up but he brushes past him to examine the area, crouching to watch the fish and say hello to the pond creatures.

With that though he'll then approach the bench and without thinking and without warning settle himself next to Dave before glancing at the short SBaHJ comics. There's a snort of amusement before he shakes his head, making himself comfortable and opening up one of the issues of the comic books he found up at the house.

He won't say much unless Dave feels like talking, but at the same time it may be a battle of impulse if they have to sit in silence for too long. What will you do, Dave?]

[ well. what dave does is slide his backpack and such off the bench to his feet to make more room for john, and continue his drawings? he does glance over to see what john's reading, and drag his headphones down to hang around his neck and shut off the mp3 player, just in case john feels like talking.

...but also he doesn't do much more than knock his elbow into john's side lightly for the shaking his head and peer at the comics, yeah. ]

[He's trying to get better about companionable silences, since he's starting to see that Dave doesn't really have problems with those? It's not in John's wheelhouse, seeing how John is a kid who doesn't know how to shut the fuck up and sometimes chatters incessantly, but he's doing his best.

It doesn't last very long, but he did his best.]

It's been a while since I've read one of these. I wonder if people in this universe would get it any better than the rest of us.

Maybe, since they'd probably be able to actually read whatever the fuck language that is. What does it seem to be about?

[ since he wasn't being that nosy. ]

An accountant who's a superhero? [He turns the comic book upside down like it'll help him read it better.] And he's always saving these two people. I think I might bring them back to Rose, actually. She'd probably like these.

Probably. She actually learned to read Troll language, maybe she can learn to read whatever that is?

[ his sister is brilliant, text it, ]

Also maybe his superhero gig is like, more on the side and his life's passion is accountin'. That'd be a change of pace, you know?

That is a possibility. If anyone could, it's Rose. [Rose Lalonde is the best okay. But he shakes his head, turning another page.] I think that'd actually make for something very interesting. A dude who just wants a quiet life with his girlfriend...and boyfriend...I think...who also wants to help people but only when he feels like it. You always read the stories about heroes that make it a full-time thing and they just work for newspapers or whatever as a disguise. A pair of glasses doesn't change a person's face that much.

[ he reaches out to snag john's glasses off his face, giving egbert-sans-glasses a considering look. ]

Hmm. I guess it didn't change you into superman, you're right. [ ...the glasses are duly given back. ]

[Hey!! There's a surprised little laugh but also he is now slightly blind, thanks Dave. He blinks a little to clear his vision, blue eyes focused on his glasses before sliding back to Dave's face and holding a hand up.]

I think I am probably better than Superman anyway. I'm not weak to kryptonite. [But once the glasses are in his hand he doesn't immediately put them on anyway.] Then again, I take that back. Your shades probably change things. I don't get how you can even see out of those all the time.

[ john's face looks about the same, although admittedly a little Strange sans glasses. his eyes are still super blue, just like the other kids have Super Color Coded Eyes. ]

Acclimation, probably. It's more of a pain to try to see properly without them if it's super bright out.

[He thinks nothing of it. Thanks to the color coded eyes, too, he can sort of make an assumption of what Dave's eyes look like and it's probably the main reason he's not doing something dumb like taking the shades from him. Dave's pretty weird about them anyway, so John leaves it alone. Eventually though he slips his glasses back on.]

I guess that makes sense. The sun is probably brighter in Texas than in Washington, plus LOHAC. [LOHAC was bright and warm and very obviously Dave's planet.] You still haven't found your real shades?

No. But I have confirmed that several other people can't find shit that's important to them.

[ so that's a thing. dave's lips thin out as he presses them together. ]

That's even weirder. Like we were ransacked before we even realized we were here. [It's troubling, but simultaneously he isn't sure what to think.] I checked everything and I'm not missing anything. So why some people and not others...think asking Genette or Brie would get us real answers? Depending how we asked.

No. I asked Genette where my shades might've gone, and she played it confused. I dunno if it was genuine or not - but I didn't get accusational or anythin'. However, I think everyone who lost shit lost stuff that was...important.

[ he's frowning. ]

That still doesn't answer why it was only some people and not others. Genette's letter didn't hint anything about that either. But...that's outright stealing really important things then, and that is not cool. [A pause.] Has Rose noticed she's missing anything?

No, but she doesn't really have...

[ hm. ]

The people I've talked to, it was all like...one thing. That was dead important to them. It's harder to think what Rose would consider that to be, you know? Or you. I might have an idea about what alternabro lost, but I'd have to ask him.

[ which. he will forget to do until the 19th unless reminded in that other thread on the 19th so uh yeah ]

[He's letting himself stare at the lagoon instead, sort of lost in thought. What would be important to him that he might have lost? He has thoughts, but it's nothing solid and there's no proof he lost anything. He's working under the idea that it was only certain people somehow.]

Yeah, I know. What do you think Dirk might have lost anyway? I can't think of what Jake might have lost, but I think that is mostly because I do not know him well enough yet. [A pause.] I didn't realize they were that important to you. [The shades, he means. He made fun of Dave for them liking them unironically, but he hadn't quite grasped it back then.]

Just...maybe a thing. [ CAL. HE THINKS MAYBE DIRK LOST THE HELLPUPPET. more relevantly... ]

They're the most important thing I own, bar nothin'. [ it's said simply and without any effort at pretense. ]

Oh. [That's helpful, but whatever. Instead he's more focused on what he actually knows.] ...they're sunglasses. [There's a little grin though because it's sort of nice to hear, but also. They're sunglasses.] I mean I am flattered or whatever, but I didn't think Ben Stiller meant that much to you.

[ john really doesn't know why they mattered, dave knows. he knew dave wore the pointy anime shades but he didn't really get that it was all the time, and that it was mandated. he doesn't really get that it was more or less the first time dave did something not mandated by bro, in terms of how he presented himself.

john doesn't get what it meant to dave to hear that maybe he was actually cool, and that in some goober-dreamed universe he had a chance at stepping out of bro's shadow (escaping bro) and being...whoever the fuck dave strider was.

and dave isn't sure how to explain it. so he jokes. ]

Please. It's ironic, you know? They're awesome 'cause they're ironic and they're ironic 'cause they're awesome. We've been over this, dude, when are you gonna take notes?

[He knows nothing about it, doesn't suspect that the words he'd written would have such an impact. But, of course, they're still true. Dave can be so much better stepping out from Bro's shadow, Dave is the cool kid and in a way it's something John knows he can't emulate and nobody can change. Sometimes he wonders if Dave believes it. Sometimes he thinks Dave believes it too much. But...there is no explanation and he follows along with the joke.]

I don't have a pen, and fuck off. I still think the whole irony thing is stupid. [There's a laugh in his tone though. This is how things should be.]

[ dave punches john's arm, lightly. not that he could hit as hard as john but YEAH. ]

That's because you, Egbert, have zero taste. It's tragic, but I forgive you for it anyway.

[He snickers and also makes a show of rubbing the place on his arm that Dave landed a hit even though it couldn't possibly hurt at all.]

Thank you, your forgiveness is everything. I do not know how I could go on if I, John Egbert, did not have the forgiveness for my lack of cool from Mr. Dave "cool kid" Strider. [Idiots.] Also my taste is fine. You don't know what my taste is like now but it is fine.

[It's. Probably mostly the same. RIP.]

Please, like your taste in movies and shit has changed at all in the past three years. [ he laughs, but maybe it's false bravado played easy, to some degree. there's three years of things he doesn't know, now, even if they've all fallen into place as easy as anything.

he slants a look sideways at john. ]

I'll learn whatever changed and probably be duly unimpressed by anythin' new you've picked up, as is my solemn duty as your best bro.

Believe it or not, it probably has. [So nyah. He doesn't mind that they're joking around, even with that bit of unsteady ground. Three years is still three years. Dave hasn't changed, so far, but...maybe he has? He hopes not.]

I didn't really have time to pick up anything new though since all we had on the ship were the movies and video games in my house. So. The same collection of stuff. But I guess that's what this place is for. When we start going new places, too, we can see what kind of stuff the aliens are into. [He waves the comic a bit.] If this is any indication, it might be kind of like the trolls' society.
