[ it's spoken with a small smile. honesty, as against stopping to rest as he is, he's appreciative that al is looking after his well-being. ]

[Like being gracious instead of actually asking for anything. Al recognizes an argument he's not going to win when he sees one, but maybe there's room for at least a temporary compromise. This window between emergencies won't likely last for long.]

There's nothing to thank me for. [He gets to his feet, patting Jude on the shoulder as he walks by.] I'll keep an eye on things out front for a few minutes so you can watch her.

[He glances at the unconscious Palai, who appears to be resting more peacefully now and almost certainly doesn't need the attention.]
