I will fight.

[ He has a sword. And he's a soldier, which Jumin is aware of. The efficiency of that might vary, though. ]

If you need to go somewhere, I can escort you.

[yancat]

[He breathes in, weighing the lives and deaths at stake. Julius's abilities can't be wasted on a mere escort mission, and Jumin's well aware of his own importance in this battle.]

No, that won't be necessary. Don't shortchange yourself — you're worth far more than a pawn.

[A king.]

Now, is there anything I can do for you?

[bulletbiter]

[ It's strange to have this sort of question fielded to him instead of giving it to someone else. Given Jumin's talents slant towards the administrative, it's unreasonable to lead the other man into battle.

But at the same time: ]

Walk with me for a while. Not into the fray, of course. Just a little.

[ Because he knows he may very well turn if he is to be left alone. What a conundrum... ]

[yancat]

Of course.

[So they do. Their feet are aimless as Jumin keeps his eyes on the ocean sky. Beautiful as it is, it's mixed with blood.]

All this violence for magic...

[bulletbiter]

It's pointless.

[ The words fall from his lips with perhaps a little more venom than they should have; he looks away. ]

There has to be a way to solve it.

[yancat]

Well, the Uvi won't listen to us. The easiest choice to make is complete eradication of the other.

[He bows his head down. The last thing he wants is another life lost.]

I detest violence. If we were meant to solve everything with blood, we would have claws and fangs. [He shrugs.] Magic, perhaps. But we were also given reason.

[bulletbiter]

[ Julius doesn't reply for a few moments, instead casting his eyes towards the strange ocean above. ]

The Uvi could be persuaded to hunt elsewhere. They don't eat the Palai, so they're being used to solve something else. I have a feeling that our answer will be found up there.

[yancat]

[His eyes are back on the water.]

That'd be easier if we hadn't frozen the place before we could negotiate. Their defenses must have doubled by now. Winning their trust won't be easy.

[bulletbiter]

They might not be intelligent enough for that.

[ Since Jumin has shown to be a level-headed person, he'll voice his thoughts. ]

What I'm worried about is if they are being used by someone.

[yancat]

[He furrows his brows. Things aren't always so straightforward in war. Of course.]

Used by whom, Visconti? The Palai can hardly hold their own, with weapons or without.

[bulletbiter]

I don't know. But we must find out. There's too much unknown here.

[ Julius looks up again, at the water. Some more Uvi might be on the way... ]

I don't like it in the slightest.

[yancat]

Not to mention our actual mission. I wonder if anyone even remembers what we're really here for.

[Ultimately, this isn't their war to fight.]

[bulletbiter]

At least we do.

[ Julius can't go back, but others certainly need to. ]

- do you hear that?

[ Not quite the sound of footsteps; rather accompanied by the faint tremors of property destruction quite some distance away. ]
