[There's a small crowd gathering at the edge of the city today. You may have been asked here by Jay or someone else, or gotten a telepathic message--or maybe you just came out to see what all the fuss was about. Either way, if you listen in it soon becomes obvious that members of the coven are heading up to the island above to check it out, and maybe do something about that pesky barrier in the way, too.

There are a couple dragons among the crowd--although you may or may not be able to see one of them--and what looks like a small submarine. Jay is wandering among these, seemingly checking that everything is in order and everyone who's supposed to be there is.]

It raises the possibility of them controlling it. More likely it points to whatever ambiguous mystery is behind the magic in this place.

. . . do you think this place has deities? Or other higher powers?

[He's kind of had gods on the mind lately.]

I think we would have heard from the Elto here if they could control the barrier, anyway, but perhaps if we brought up a large number of them . . . .

The Eltos believe in them. I'm more inclined to assume magical humans who made some really fucking stupid life choices in the past. Stupid life choices on a mass scale is sort of what we do.

We could at least ask what they think about it.

[He nods; whether at the suggestion or the assessment of humans, it's hard to say. Maybe both.]

The two aren't mutually exclusive. Magical humans and gods, that is.

Unfortunately, no. [He thinks that's stupid???

It's because he is one. He feels it's way too easy to get the job and be totally unqualified. Because he is unqualified. My God help him.]

I was thinking more along the lines of "the magical humans have to have gotten their powers from somewhere." Though you raise another good point.

[That's right, Dirk is from the same . . . universe cluster . . . as Dave. Which probably means a lot of the same bullshit going down.]
