[It's a foreign practice, clothes shopping. Just as they had always hoped to, 9S and 2B had purchased t-shirts together, but that isn't the same thing as changing one's apparel altogether. And after 2B had discovered that she couldn't simply go around in her own shirt and without her skirt without offending human sensibilities (or, as near as 9S can gather, embarrassing the daylights out of them for some odd reason), it seems the time has come to pursue the topic of apparel again.

As A2 is far more exposed than that, it only makes sense to ask her along as well. Besides, her present condition is a mark of what she had endured. All that remains of her uniform is but a scrap of what it once was, and perhaps for her this might be a fresh start of sorts. They're all, despite their past, YoRHa units. And so maybe choosing something together will make them feel more like it.

They have a new purpose now, so a change might not be bad at all. Not that he'll discard the uniform he's always been in, but there's no harm in this, right? Maybe he's thinking too deeply on it as he waits outside the hotel for 2B and A2, so they can head to the commercial district together and see what there is to find]

[And here 2B thought she could just continue using her YoRHa uniform and baby blue tshirt forever..... Alas, the society they're currently in apparently dictates that having multiple article of clothing is necessary. Or at least that a certain amount of them are necessary to prevent "indecent exposure." She really doesn't get it all that much, but she also has no intention of making a scene while they're here.

So here she is, approaching the outside of the hotel in her standard uniform. She wonders if A2 has had any experience with clothes shopping since getting here, although she'd bet not. At least she and 9S have some form of experience with it now if their predecessor has any questions about it. Not that she considers herself to be an expert in it either still...

Clothes Shopping, Take 2: Still More Difficult than It Should be.]

[ likewise, A2 thought she could continue on wearing whatever was left of her uniform and didn't have any inclination on switching up her fashion choices. she's gotten a lot of strange looks since arriving in shehui, but she honestly didn't really care whether or not the society here approved of her appearance; it's what she'd been wearing for the past three years and despite the wear and tear, it's never hindered her performance any. she still doesn't really understand why it's such a big deal, but 9S invited her and she has an abundance of credits, so there really isn't any reason why she shouldn't go along.

she's the last to arrive, slowing her approach once she spots 9S and 2B. she doesn't have any experience with clothes shopping at all and doesn't really know what to expect, but more importantly, there's something surreal about all three of them meeting up like this for the first time. no machines, no fighting, just them standing in front of the hotel, going shopping. ]

[9S waves and offers 2B a smile when she arrives, because he's always happy to see her on any occasion. It's pretty weird being roomed separately the way they are now, something that seems to him even more distanced than having their own individual rooms in the Bunker ever did, but at least they can spend time together]

Hey, 2B.

[And shortly thereafter he sees A2, and gets the same greeting. If they weren't so very different in his eyes it might surprise him, but as it stands, 9S simply waves to her too]

Looks like we're all here. [Something he doubts any of them would have imagined before being recruited to some strange organization that travels worlds, for more reasons than one] I checked out a few places that might work for us.

[He taps the air to bring one of his holographic monitors up, displaying a map of the city around them. On it are several highlighted points in the commercial district, all clothing vendors. What's a Scanner for, after all?]

[There's something extremely surreal about all three of them being here together for something as mundane as clothes shopping. Granted, she knows it's not exactl mundane for them when they're so unfamiliar with it, but YoRHa units being in any kind of situation that doesn't involve battle or danger in some way or another? She never could have even tried to imagine it until now.

But as surreal as it is, it's not bad by any means. No, far from it.]

That's a lot of stores... [Which in its own way is bizarre to her. Why would you need so many different places just to get the same thing? Aimintas had much fewer in comparison, and they all fulfilled the same purpose.] Is there any significant difference between them?

[ that is definitely a lot of stores and A2 doesn't entirely know why there needs to be so many. then again, variety seems to be something that humans tend to prefer to have, so that probably explains some things.

but for now, she shifts a little closer to them, leaning in slightly to get a better look at the stores. ]

... Some of these look like they'd be more expensive.

[ better quality, she guesses. if she didn't know 9S like she does, she'd be more impressed with how he managed to get this much data on all the stores already. ]

[9S nods in response to A2's suggestion]

So far as I can tell it's a matter of what kinds of wares they sell. They place higher value on certain materials and even styles, although they're not always hard to come by, so it...doesn't make much sense.

[Perhaps some things will always remain a mystery to androids like them, though 9S wishes it were a little easier to grasp. Some materials are terribly common and yet fetch a high price depending on how they're used.

He isn't entirely convinced that craftsmanship is always a supporting reason]

Maybe we can find out a bit more along the way.

Then I guess we'd better start looking now. There's a lot to consider here.

[Which isn't exactly bad? Probably. It's definitely nice that the clothes here are already shaped for humanoids at least, so having more options in that way is something she appreciates. On the other hand, given that she's worn one outfit for most of her life, the idea of sorting through all these different kinds of clothing to find the "best" one is a little daunting.

Although she's sure it's the same for everyone here right now. At least none of them will have to be concerned with confusing someone on their sheer unfamiliarity with recreational shopping.]

[ they've all had one outfit for most of their lives, and A2's is less of an outfit and more just rags at this point. she at least has the vague idea now that her wardrobe is severely lacking, not that she really cares either way. if anything, buying something new would at least stop people like jude from being concerned about her state. ]

Guess we'll have to pick one to start. We can take a look at them all before deciding.

[ they're not exactly in a hurry either way, but she'll let one of them make that choice. ]

We've got time.

[It's one thing they had precious little of in the past, their lives filled with missions, combat, deaths and deployment. Now they're so free, there's something both hopeful and intimidating about it.

Clothes shopping, at least, should be far easier than a great many things they've been faced with. 9S reminds himself of this, planting his hands on his hips]

So who's taking point?

Why don't you? You're the one who knows the most about this, after all. [If anyone has to take point, it seems natural that it would be him.]

I'm fine with that.

[ it's not like she has an idea of where to begin. 9S has the most information out of the three of them, so it's only reasonable if he takes point. ]

[There's something strange about it, the thought of him taking the lead. 9S is so accustomed to following 2B unless he's alone. And he prefers not to be alone, if he can help it.

But that was in a world riddled with hostiles, and now... Now they're here]

Alright, I...guess I can do that.

[Still there follows an awkward pause before 9S turns and starts heading for the commercial district. This is the first time the three of them have done anything together too, isn't it?]

[2B can't help but feel hyper-aware of that fact. It almost feels like a dream, them doing something as mundane as shopping together. Doing anything all together, really. If this is a dream though, she only hopes that it never ends.

As they make their way towards the commercial district, it only seems to get busier and busier. There are a lot of people around, both human and non-human alike. Speaking of things that feel unreal, being anywhere so populated is still something she's getting used to.]

It's pretty lively here. [And in a place that already seems to have people everywhere, she thinks that's no easy feat.]

[ it's the first time they've done something together and that surreal feeling still hasn't left, even though she has come to accept the fact that this is real and it's happening. it's certainly not a bad thing; they've been through enough, seen enough, fought enough... maybe it's time they did something mundane like this instead, for once.

the commercial district is bustling, and like 2B, it's also something she's still growing accustomed to even after wandering it a few times already. A2 doesn't think she'll ever get used to it, even after they've returned to the hub island. ]

Kind of makes you think back to the earth we came from, doesn't it. [ her tone is dry, a wry sort of smile tugging at her mouth. ] What it would've been like.

Minus the aliens everywhere... I guess it does.

[He's sure they all imagined what it would be like when the war was over and mankind returned. None of them would ever see that time, of course, so this may be as close as they ever come. The crowds are near stifling, even after their stay in Aimintas. Perhaps it's due to the holiday?

They reach the first prospective shop soon after, a small boutique nestled between larger shops. The clothing out on display seems similar enough to their own apparel to warrant further investigation, and 9S pushes the door open for 2B and A2 to enter.

At a glance, it seems quiet. Soft music drifts through the air, displays are tidy with ample space between them, and only a few customers are milling about. An easier place to begin than a crowded shop]

[Despite the example right in front of them, it's hard for 2B to really picture what it would've been like. Humanity returning to their rightful home. What would a soldier, a weapon, like her even be doing at that point?]

I'm not sure I would've gotten used to it. [Just like how she's doing here, honestly. She doesn't quite smile, but she sounds amused nevertheless. No one's more aware of how out of her element she is when it comes to people than 2B.

Walking into the shop now, she's a little relieved that there aren't many people in it. After the crowds of people outside, it feels like she has a chance to breathe.]

... Were either of you looking for anything in particular? [Because honestly, she has no idea where to start on this.]
