Open/Closed: Open. Because Haru is inviting everyone to a tea party.

Hello everyone out there. As you may know, there is a garden area on the seventh floor of the apartment building we're all living in. I'm inviting anyone who hears this to come join me for tea. Think of it like a bonding activity? Getting to know someone better that you might have only run into a couple of times?

Or you could just come and help relieve me of all of the tea cakes and cookies I made this morning, it's up to you! Thank you for your time!

[Really, this is just Haru's excuse to celebrate to herself, just a little! It's Haru's birthday today and she feels much better doing something nice for the rest of the coven than just doing something nice for herself! Not that anyone outside her really knows that. Or so she thinks? When characters arrive to the garden they will see several smaller tables set up like this with several warm pots of tea around and plenty of cups! She meant for this to be something where the coven could help themselves.]

It is rather unsettling being constantly brought to new places, isn't it? How are you settling into Shehui?

Shehui reminds me of the city at home. So I'm used to city life pretty easily. As to the purpose of us being here?

[She falls a little silent.]

Well, we just have to wonder, don't we? This world is rather strict about magic.

Which raises the question of where we're going to find the kind of magical energy Qri wants us to collect. Yes.

[He frowns thoughtfully.]

I can only assume they're hiding something, with their anti-magic policies. Whether we should pry into what that is is another matter.

I assumed you of all people would want to pry into it. But not at the cost of being banned from the city. Who know what would happen if any of us were to get banned. Where would those people go?

[Haru has a rebellious spirit. But not rebellious enough to want to be kicked out of somewhere with no clue as to what might happen.]

Naturally I want to. That is, however, separate from the matter of whether it's a wise thing to do.

[But she's not wrong: he smiles.]

I'll be careful in my investigation of the city. It certainly is ominous that they won't tell us what happens to banned people.

I've noticed also that I feel the same here as I do on the island. When we went to Aimintas I was able to use the power that I have at home. Here? Nothing. Do you think that could also be influence of this city and their strong rules over magic?

[She believes him, and also believes in him. Jay could uncover anything if he tried hard enough!]

I do wonder if it's something they're doing on purpose, yes. It could just be that this is a "low frequency" world like the hub, but that doesn't explain why they bothered forbidding magic in a place where it can't be done.

Though we are still able to use our magic from Qri-san. So maybe all magic isn't totally impossible.

[She sighs.] My curiosity is very high.

I think curiosity in a situation like this is natural. We know about the existence of at least two types of magic: the kind from our own worlds, and the kind bestowed upon us by Qri. But we don't know anything about why which is which, or how common either is.

I just want to know why it isn't allowed here.

[To be straightforward about it.]

[--okay, that gets a chuckle out of him.]

That too. What exactly are they afraid of?

Perhaps...perhaps they had a bad experience. Maybe something got out of hand.

[With a small smile, not unkind:]

That's the theory that's more favorable to them.

So do you have a different one, Jay-san?

[The smile widens a little.]

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a theory. Just a guess. Either they're opposed to magic because they consider it a threat to their population, or because they consider it a threat to their power.

Although I suppose it could always be "both."

I feel like you aren't far off.

[She scuffs the ground a little.]

I don't want to see any of us get in trouble, but just sitting around is a little unnerving.
